JTBC's medical comedy Doctor Cha finished its 16-episode run with one of the highest-rated Korean cable television series ever! The incredible show about a housewife of twenty years coming back as a first-year medical resident has proved to be a winner! We break down what has made this series so heart-warming and brave!

Synopsis
Kind, generous, and definitely not ambitious housewife Cha Jeong Suk (Uhm Jung Hwa Our Blues 2022) was your ordinary housewife with a son in medical school, a teenage daughter about to go to college, and a doctor professor for a husband. But because of an unprecedented crisis of needing a liver transplant, Cha Jeong Suk's life is thrown into a whirlwind as she finds the courage to restart her medical training, after 20 years, and follow her dream of becoming a real licensed doctor!
Doctor Cha ended with its highest viewership rating, 18.546%, during its finale which ended on June 4, according to Nielsen Korea. The series averaged a 13.7% viewership rating throughout its 16-episode run.
What Makes Doctor Cha so likable?
Uhm Jeong Hwa creates a very ordinary housewife character that just minds her business and takes care of her family. She doesn't know that her husband has been cheating on her with a co-worker. Her mother-in-law and family take advantage of her generosity by making her do the housework and cook. We all can understand how a person/character can be overlooked by even the closest people around us. That's why when seeing Cha Jeong Suk actually succeeding and doing well at her job as a first-year medical resident, you can't help but cheer her on!
It also helps that a new dashing doctor, Roy Kim (Min Wook Hyuk If You Wish Upon Me 2022), saves her and starts to take an interest in her which really starts to stir up the story! Her husband becomes jealous and Jeong Suk starts to get her groove back that she has lost since being pregnant!
