Cha Min Jo (Son Ye Jin Crash Landing On You 2019-2020) seems to have it all, a wonderful career as a dermatologist, a handsome boyfriend, a loving family, and most of all amazing girlfriends. But nearing the age of 40, she feels that it's time to take a break from her studious life as a doctor a decides to go to the United States for a one-year golf sabbatical. Her besties, Jeong Chan Young (Jeon Mi Do Hospital Playlist 2 2021) and Jang Joo Hee (Kim Ji Hyun Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha 2021) also the same age, convince her to take her sabbatical in Korea. These three are inseparable, they do everything together, they tell each other their innermost secrets, and they've been through it all, together. As they navigate their last year in their thirties, they grow through life, relationships, secrets, and tragedy.

Throughout the ups and downs of their last year in their thirties, they find out Chan Young is diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and decides to be the "happiest terminally ill person in the world" for the remainder of her time left. Although they try to honor her wishes, life doesn't always go smoothly as they have to break the news to their closest friends, relatives, and especially, Chan Young's parents.

The great chemistry between the female leads in this drama creates such a bond that only true friends can understand. The tear-jerking moments are naturally conveyed and we the audience are swept into the reality of their world. Thirty-nine is easily one of the best slice-of-life dramas to date! The characters are likable and easy to relate and the life situations are not difficult to understand. This is definitely a must-watch in our book!
