The Labubu craze started thanks to a popular collectible toy character, which is from "The Monsters" series. This charismatic doll was created by Hong-Kong-Belgian artist Kasing Lung.
This ugly, but cute, character is sold in a plush toy form as well as vinyl figures, which are characterized by point ears, wide eyes and a cheeky grin and sharp teeth, other words "Pop Mart".
The craze started to gain popularity as the toy was often sold in "blind boxes" which added an element of surprise for collectors. This soft toy also gained more attention when Lisa from BLACKPINK took to TikTok with the slogan "Aahhh... my baby took the pink Labubu", as a result BLINKS worldwide rushed to stores to try and fight for a chance to buy their own plushie.

With the what can only be described as the "insane" demand for Labubu toys worldwide, there has unfortunately been scenes in stores, which have been reported as "near riots" and "scuffles" breaking out among eager collectors.
The UK and South Korea has seen the "Pop Mart" distributor temporality halt store sales due to safety concerns. This frenzy is often gas lighted by the toy's "limited availability" and "blind box" marketing ploys.
The immense demand for Labubu toys has unfortunately led to chaotic scenes in stores worldwide, with reports of near-riots and scuffles breaking out among eager collectors. In some locations, such as the UK and South Korea, distributor Pop Mart even temporarily halted in-store sales due to safety concerns.
