Just in time for American Thanksgiving, if you're in Seoul and have a craving for some meat, we've got the best short rib restaurant to make you salivate! Hop into the trendy neighborhood of Hongdae as we show you why this restaurant topped our list!

The Legacy of Taste
Pungnyeon Charcoal Grilled Short Ribs has made our November pick for good reason! Not only does it have really amazing food! Not just a restaurant; this culinary institution is built on a 31-year family legacy and continues to thrive today!
This incredible span of time has allowed the family to perfect their craft, ensuring that every dish carries the authentic taste of tradition. Once in a building across the road, it was renovated and relocated to its current, much larger location to keep up with demand. It stands as a true Seoul legend, representing decades of dedication to quality Korean BBQ, and the best part is that it is only 500 meters from Hongik University Station in Seoul, exit 3.
The Charcoal Difference
The secret to this restaurant's deeply satisfying flavor lies in the charcoal grilling. The meat, particularly the short ribs (galbi), is marinated and infused with a smoky depth that gas or electric grills simply cannot replicate! This is the reason why the flavor comes through tenfold!

During Dojeon team member Lewis Hooper's visit, he tried the traditional pork belly and pork neck, along with a tofu stew and steamed egg! Of course, all of these orders were accompanied by the side dishes, which is the best part about Korean BBQs. This restaurant actually cooked the kimchi on the round plate, which made it taste even better than it usually does!

The food for two people came in, and a great price of only 60,000 won (USD 41.00), which included a bottle of beer! Each serving of pork belly was 15,000 won (USD 10.00), which was the same price for the pork neck, and then the steamed egg and stew were a small cost as well!
The atmosphere in the place was also amazing, while at the same time feeling very relaxed, which was perfect during November! The owners were also both present, and running the show themselves, and were very friendly and smiley, which made the entire experience even more local and enjoyable!
Time to Book Your Table
Given its legendary status and incredible taste, securing a table at Pungnyeon is highly recommended. During Lewis Hooper's recent visit, he booked a table in advance, and suggests that you do the same! The restaurant is a must-visit for anyone seeking a true local Korean dining experience.
