Check this out, this is a total game-changer! Naver Webtoon's Japanese-language platform Line Manga and the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) are collaborating together with the pure focus on promoting Korean travel destinations, mainly outside of the capital for locals and visitors alike. This is something that the Dojeon Media Team are ecstatic about, and with the rise of Webtoon readers globally, this adventure is not to be missed!

In recent years, K-pop and K-dramas, along with other aspects of K-culture, have drawn in global audiences, enabling them to become curious about South Korea. To push this further, webtoons are looking like the new way forward, to help promote Korea's soft power. This is something that we believe Korea does really well, and we are super stoked to see how this new campaign plays out!

This exciting new partnership with Line Manga will hope to use the leverage and influence, which the webtoons currently hold, especially among Japan’s Gen Z, to showcase Korea’s stunning scenery through eye-catching illustrations and beloved characters. Japan of course, is well known globally for it's animations, and including some of these within the campaign is a no brainer, and we hope that they will encourage people to indulge in this new webtoon!

This isn't just a simple ad campaign. It's a strategic move that recognizes the powerful influence of Korean content as a new tool for tourism. Forget traditional guidebooks—your next adventure might just be inspired by your favorite webtoon! As a collective, we have discussed that readers of all ages, will be able to enjoy these stories, and at the same time learn something about South Korea.

The campaign's vibrant illustrations will feature household name characters from the successful hit series My Daughter Is a Zombie and Killer Peter as they visit iconic locations. From the historical beauty of Donggung Palace to the serene landscapes of Seoraksan National Park, these webtoon-inspired guides capture the unique spirit of Korea. The featured destinations were hand-picked by Korean travel experts, proving that the hottest new travel trends are coming from the screen and to the street. They hope to inspire readers by showcasing these beautiful attractions.

These amazing, charming illustrations will be available for two months from September through to the end of October. Webtoon fans will be able to find these amazing images on the Visit Korea website. Remember to look out for your favorite webtoon characters exploring twelve of Korea's top scenic spots!

Why are Webtoons so popular with young Koreans and Japanese?

Due to their vibrant visuals and colorful, universally published content, webtoons have gained popularity among young Koreans and Japanese. The appealing art style often enhances the dynamic layouts, and some webtoons even offer sound effects. This also helps the webtoon become more globally popular, which in turn will help promote Korean culture in this instance. Let's take a look at this Instagram post and see what some of the fans are discussing!

The lack of traditional page breaks on the webtoon platforms also allows artists to create a seamless flow, building suspense with each scroll. These webtoons also cover a variety of topics from romance to real-life stories, which, in a more reserved culture, can help romanticize these characters.

The content can be more direct and contemporary, reflecting the current trends and sensibilities of the audience.
