Red Swan starring K-pop superstar Rain and Kim Ha Neul is a new Disney+ action/romance K-drama that took over our screens during its premiere on July 3, 2024! Is it worth watching? Here is what we really think! What is Red Swan? Red Swan tells the story of Oh Wan Soo ( Kim Ha Neul ), a woman born into a poor family, who turns her life around and becomes a world-class golfer, catching the attention of many people along the way, including her future husband, Kim Yong Guk, the heir to the Hwain Group. Struggling to pay off her mother's debts, Wan Soo agrees to marry Yong Guk, but soon after becomes unhappy when she finds out about her husband's affair. For over a decade, she has lived with her husband and is determined to make it work, but things begin to change quickly when she faces the biggest night of her life. Shortly after arriving in Manila Philippines. The lead actors Jung Ji Hoon or better known as Rain plays the main male lead role in this new drama. He gained his level of fame as an actor, model, dancer, and producer. His career began in 2003, which shows that he is more than capable of this new role. So far for me, I have been really captivated and impressed with his acting skills, and I can really feel his emotions. Kim Ha Neul has also bagged the lead female role in this new drama. She has to date an outstanding career which started back in 1998. With her acting skills, and experience captivating audiences she is more than suited for this role. For me, that has become obvious in many of her scenes so far. Here's a look at the story so far! (Spoilers!) What we know so far Later, on a trip to Manila, and for the first time as a Goodwill Ambassador, Wan Soo is caught in a gunfight, but narrowly escapes death thanks to the heroism of her company bodyguard, Seo Do Yoon ( Rain ). Soon after, Wan Soo develops feelings for Do Yoon and reflects on her life up until that night, but is unsure of what Do Yoon's true motivations are for working for the Hwan Group. My thoughts so far I think that since the drama is on Disney+ and along with other K-romance dramas, it's of course bound to have a feel-good factor and a happy ending, so you could almost predict how it would end. However, I think the storyline for this show is very interesting and it kept me engaged throughout. I am however perplexed by the low ratings for this drama, given its promising start in the first 2 episodes. I wish they drop the whole 10 series at once, which may have helped with the ratings and also my binge watching addiction, so that I could watch it overnight! The bodyguard-boss romance plot is captivating in my opinion. The chemistry between the leads is intense and evident. I love the fast paced flow of the story and yet it doesn't leave out any important details. We have a strong female lead in this drama which I liked. She isn't easily shaken by those difficult people around her, unlike other female lead roles in other dramas. Also being highly into action, I enjoyed the amount of action that was shown in many of the scenes, It helped to keep me engaged throughout. Monsoon season for 2024 has so far seen PSY''s Summer Swag back on the stage for its yearly tour. The concert series kicked off on June 29 in the South Korean city of Wonju. With more upcoming concert dates to hit several other cities, we wonder: Is it really worth it? Dojeon team member, Lewis, tells you his experience! I attended the 2022 summer swag concert in Daegu, and as I have expressed before it was so much fun! Unfortunately, the 2024 season tickets sold out before I had a chance to purchase one, during my time at the show I had so much fun and it exceeded my expectations. For me, PSY had been a figure of K-pop with his song "Gangnam Style" and having listened to that song over and over, along with other songs from that album it helped me to learn some Korean and a little bit more about the culture. "Summer Swag" is a concert series with water, music, and fun. It features upbeat songs like "That That" (2022) featuring BTS's Suga , "New Face" (2017), "I Luv It" (2017), "Gangnam Style" (2012), and "Champion" (2014) and plenty of water sprayed at the audience to fight the heat. Now this is an amazing way to cool down in the hot and humid weather, and allows you to have fun at the same time with some classic songs! PSY had been previously criticized for using too much water during the 2022 tour due to severe droughts at that time, however, the 2024 series saw no negative feedback towards the singer, other than that he looked like he had lost weight. As a result, the singer posted a photo of himself eating some beef soup in a restaurant on the outskirts of Daegu before the showing stating that he is trying to return to his normal self. Let's check out a video from the 2024 Summer Swag! For me, PSY brings a sense of nostalgia feeling of fun, and a positive atmosphere. I think that all the dancers are very talented, and the idea of having water cannons in my opinion helps to keep the show popular each year, as it's a fun way to cool off and listen to some old classic songs with your friends and family. Lee Mu Jin has a voice that can be heard in most Korean homes, bars, and cafés. His voice is iconic due to the high notes and effortless singing. So who is the man behind the voice? Lee Mu Jin was born in the year 2000 and is a South Korean singer and songwriter, who rose to fame after first appearing in the music audition show Sing Again fairly recently back in 2020, where he finished in 3rd place. Following his success as a runner-up on the show, Lee Mu Jin released his own single "Traffic Light" in 2021, and as soon as the song was released it spent a well-earned 3 weeks at number one on the South Korean charts. After, in 2022, Lee Mu Jin became the main host of the KBS web-based show "Lee Mujin Service" where he continues to do some work. "Traffic Light" is a song that can be heard in many bars, cafés and homes in Korea. Let's check it out! I have watched this video a number of times, and I really like that the music video shows a realistic side to the singer, from the scenes of him sitting around the campfire singing with his friends, or appearing with his family in a feel-good setting. Vocally I also feel that Lee Mu Jin has an incredible voice, especially when it comes to hitting the high notes, which I can only dream of doing. Besides having a great singing voice, he is also a genius songwriter. Kim Eana , is a songwriter who has written numerous number-one songs for artists such as IU , Taeyeon , Park Hyo Shin etc, In 2024 he took center stage at the Seoul Festa around the City Hall area of Seoul, which again gained huge popularity with the crowds. I love Busan, and I love rock music, so when I heard that there is going to be a Rock Festival in Busan this year, I had to double-check what I had heard. I think that this will bring many tourists to Busan, and the beach side setting that Busan offers, is the perfect place for a weekend of fun. K-pop star Jin , a member of the supergroup BTS , recently participated as a torchbearer for South Korea at the Olympic torch relay for this year’s Games! So what happened? With much hate and negativity in the world these days, Jin will take part in the Olympic Torch Relay to spread the message of "harmony" and "peace", I hope that with his fan base and influence, it will have some effect. With every Olympic season being hosted in a new city, 2024 will see Paris, France being the host city for the worldwide infamous games. The flame light for the 2024 Paris games was actually lit in Olympia, Greece, which was actually the birthplace of the ancient Olympic games, and the flame has been lit since April 2024. The flame, which has been traveling in a relay ever since will light the cauldron to mark the opening of the 2024 Summer Games. I remember when I was young, the Olympic torch passed through my city in the UK, for the year of the London Olympic games. I feel that there is a sense of nostalgia. The flame is expected to be passed from hand to hand by some 10,000 torchbearers and reach the Olympic cauldron in Paris on July 26, where it will remain lit until the Closing Ceremony two weeks later. What better way to cool down this summer, than taking a dip in one of the pools at Seoul's summer beach, located in the heart of Seoul. Here are all the details to keep you cool! With the summer heat and intense humidity in full swing, the Seoul Government has announced that the 2024 Seoul Summer Beach, will open to the public in Gwanghwamun Square later this month. When I heard this news, I was so excited. As you may know, many public pools open in the summer along the Han River , to allow locals and tourists to cool down, but the fact that there will be an outdoor pool right in the heart of the city made me feel excited! Please don't go thinking that this pool will be something small, mainly to dip your feet in. This outdoor pool will be 40 meters long, and in addition, it will also feature 2 water slides! Seoul's Summer Beach will open to the public between July 26, 2024, and August 11, 2024, and it was also announced that for 2024 the pool will be twice the size it was in 2023. I think that this is mainly due to the increase in foreign tourists that Korea has been trying to attract for 2024, so this means that 800 people will be able to use the pool at any one time!! Let's check out some of the features and fun from 2023! One thing for me when I go away, is that I like to keep busy, so although it is often nice to lay around by a beach or a pool, I enjoy seeing what local cities have to offer. If you have ever visited South Korea, you will have noticed a coffee shop on virtually every corner of the street, and if there isn't then each convenience store is highly stocked with various coffees. So why is coffee so popular in Korea? As a proud Brit, I have always been raised with a "cup of tea" and like most Brits, after a long day, or when you feel stressed a cup of tea is a way to take some time out and gather your thoughts. However, in the UK, coffee culture is slowly growing. When I moved to Korea, I was really surprised how many coffee shops there were. I recently read that there is over 100,000 coffee shops in Korea , from big chains like Starbucks , to smaller local chains or one off stores. Whenever I am in downtown, I tend to be only a couple of meters away from a coffee shop. Most of the coffee shops also offer a very competitive price, typically around 1,500 KRW (USD 1.09) for a take out, or for a bigger chain around 5,000 KRW (USD 3.60) . Which for me is a really good price. Let's check out why coffee culture is so big in Korea! Most Koreans that I have met, always love to drink coffee, even in the evening or with food. Every time I have experienced this, I have been left with questions, like, "Surley it's too late to drink coffee?" "Why are you drinking coffee with food?" But, I always get told the same answer, that its a "sociable drink", as well as remaining a trend. I have also noticed, and I am sure that you have too, that coffee shops in Korea, tend to offer a variety of items on their menu, but even more than that, the coffee shops also offer different levels of seating, from study zones, to "no kids zones", or even private booths. In my time in Korea, I have also visited many pet theme, or character theme coffee shops too which for me, helps boost the trend and coffee culture in Korea. I for sure recommend if you have not done so already, signing up to many of the coffee shop apps, or rewards cards, as they offer free coffees, exclusive benefits and sometimes event offers on their products. Which of course keep me coming back for more. I am not here to say whether Korean coffee is good or bad – it can be either-or. What I want to look at is the culture itself . What is it all about? This is why cafés are the "go-to spot" I must begin this by saying that in Korea, everything passes as a café. While a café is typically a store that primarily sells coffee, this is a bit different in Korea. Rather, the word ‘café’ in Korea refers more to a meeting place. Many "cafés" even seem to serve drinks as an afterthought .
