  • What was so special about NewJeans' Japan debut "Supernatural" that has Bunnies raving?

ADOR super girl group NewJeans dropped a bomb of a performance with their Japanese debut "Supernatural" ! Let's take a deep dive into what made this specific debut so special. Are you ready? Let's go! NewJeans' new single "Supernatural" indulges listeners with a harmonious blend of nostalgic melody and emotional lyrics. The song is thought to bring recognition to rapper/singer and songwriter, Pharrell Williams and Japanese singer Minami's "Back of My Mind" in 2009. Along with their previous single "How Sweet" which uses Miami Bass (a unique form of hip hop beat from Miami, Florida) NewJeans has a knack for taking nostalgic music styles and adding their modern flare! Take a listen! This time, "Supernatural" introduces us to the genre of "New Jack Swing", a genre of African American music that emerged in the late 1980s and early 1990s. It is a unique blend of contemporary R&B and hip-hop that reached a broader audience than just hip-hop fans. See if you can spot the similarities! Pharrell Williams co-wrote "Supernatural"! NewJeans is definitely going global since legendary music producer and Louis Vuitton's men's Creative Director Pharrell Williams co-wrote and music for "Supernatural"! Also, the male vocals throughout "Supernatural" is none other than Pharrell himself! Introducing "Urahara Style" Hiroshi Fujiwara , the master of a Japanese street style called "Urahara Style" also contributed to the look of NewJeans' Japanese debut success. He designed the T-shirts, bandanas, hats, and bags for NewJeans! "Supernatural" isn't their first "debut" in Japan Although the term "debut" is a little misleading when it comes to NewJeans' exposure in Japan since the group has already been topping Japanese music charts with their hit single "OMG". With "Ditto", NewJeans became the fastest foreign female artists to reach 100 million streams on Japan's prestigious Oricon chart! The point is, Japanese fans already have a "taste" of NewJeans and what's even more impressive is that "Supernatural" sold 680,000 copies on its first day of release! Needless to say, Japan Bunnies are definitely strong and supportive! So what do you think about "Supernatural"? Will it be at the top of your summer playlist? Let us know in the comments below! #NewJeans   #뉴진스 #NewJeans_Supernatural   #NewJeans_RightNow   #NewJeans_is_Everywhere #ADOR   #어도어

  • Visit this picturesque coastal town when visiting South Korea! You won't regret it! [Town Feature: Pohang]

Korea is famous for Busan and its mega city Seoul. But these days mainly due to K-dramas, K-pop, and its rich culture, many locals and tourists have traveled off the beaten path. Dojeon team member, Lewis, recently visited a coastal town in the South East of the country and was taken away by its beach beauty! Let's take a look at why Pohang should be on your South Korean travel bucket list! Pohang is one of the more local beach areas, which not many foreign tourists tend to visit, due to its location. This makes it the perfect experience to indulge in more local culture when you visit Korea. Due to the weather getting hotter these days, I left my home in Daegu early in the morning and arrived by 10 am. This meant that I was able to get a parking space in one of the nearby car parks and get to the beach before any crowds. Well, there turned out to be not many people on the beach at all during my time there, which I found strange as if this beach was in Europe it would have been rammed by 10 am!! The water was very shallow, meaning that I was able to walk out fairly far, and the water was also warm and very clear. I was able to see small fish swimming around and I could soak in the warm sun on my face, as I had fun swimming and playing in the sea! This was great, due to there being only a few other people around. In terms of the sand, and the size of the beach for me it was much better than the beaches in Busan due to it being less touristy, and as a result, I had more room to move around and enjoy myself without being disturbed! Walking along the path, you will find many statues and street art, which is great, as it blends with the scenery. Towards the end of the beach, you will come to a pier, where you can walk out and take great photos of the shore and the sea. The oriental style pier was worth several phots itself. Bear in mind if you dare to climb to the top, then you will need to take off your shoes, and it's advised that you also cover up (meaning you can't enter topless). Pohang is famous for its "Spacewalk". Located just a short 10-15 minute drive from the beach, you will be able to find plenty of parking in the art museum or by one of its many cafes. Here, you will experience crowds, though a great thing is that entry is free. Now if this was in the UK, it would cost an entry fee. Be advised that if you do not like heights then I would not recommend climbing to the top. There are beautiful viewpoints and benches all around in case you choose not to climb up to the top. I did climb to the top, and the view was stunning! I am not the biggest fan of heights so I held on tight climbing up, though it was not that bad. I was surprised how high you were able to climb up, and there were people of all ages. It was so much fun! After the space walk, I headed down to one of the many cafes which are nearby. I really enjoyed the cafe street as there were plenty of options depending on your price range, and I was able to get some delicious lunch with great outside seating to enjoy the sunshine. I think that it is great to shy away from the off the beat and track tourist destinations in order to gain a sense of what the locals experience and how people live. Usually I find the major tourist destinations to be very expensive and crowded and because of the amount of tourists, it does not feel like I am in another country. Pohang is for sure a place that I will go back to, especially since it is only a 90-minute drive from Daegu . No trip to the seaside would be complete without some photos to remember the trip by. For me, the beautiful rose garden was worth the stop. Along the beach, there were plenty of opportunities for those Instagram-able photos and memorable moments. How to get to Pohang and the Space walk: https://english.visitkorea.or.kr/svc/whereToGo/locIntrdn/locIntrdnList.do?vcontsId=34489&menuSn=351 For more sights and must-dos in Pohang, visit our article where we introduce eight activities for you to enjoy! During their run, the term "girl crush" was coined and fans were obsessed with K-pop girl groups and dominated the music charts! Let's see if they are really making a comeback! 2NE1 was a strong representative of the second-generation girl groups that included Orange Caramel , Crayon Pop , and Kara . The group swept trophies at various music awards garnering 43 wins on music broadcasts! 2NE1 also made K-pop girl group history by becoming the first girl group to hold a world tour! While the group's official activities ended on November 25, 2016, they returned, as a group, to perform at the 2022 Coachella Music Festival six years later. 2NE1 dominated the main stage with their live energy and charisma and dazzled the audience! 2NE1 will meet YG Entertainment's Chairman and Executive Producer, Yang Hyun Suk , to mark its 15th anniversary! • Get away from Korea's big cities and relax in a peaceful river with some Korean BBQ in this quiet town! [Town feature: Danyang]

Danyang is a beautiful small town in Korea and 45.5 km (about 28 miles) from High 1 Ski Resort . I have visited twice now, and recently, I was even more taken away by the natural beauty and tranquil countryside setting. Here is why you should visit! Not only is this place great for a perfect countryside sunset, but for me, it was a chance to switch off from my everyday busy life and be at one with family and nature. The accommodation was easy to find, up and down many county lanes, and on-site were two cabins for the weekend I visited. I booked both since I had family visiting with me, although I had previously visited the year before and booked just one cabin. The thing I liked the most was the view, but also the friendly hosts and clean accommodation. Although I like the idea of camping, but in the hot summer weather, this was a better alternative (plus I really like a warm shower). The pension offers a great location with on-site parking and an option for a BBQ ! And since I had stayed there previously, my hosts arranged for me free of charge! Another thing I like about this place is that only locals appear to visit, which for me is what I want when ever I visit some place new. Our hosts had rubber rings that we could use, and just a short 2 minute walk away was this beautiful river. I was surprised to see many locals and Korean tourists swimming there and I have to say that everyone was very friendly and welcoming and encouraged me to get in! This was my first time swimming in a river, however, once I was in, it was VERY REFRESHING and an experience that I will not forget! I took a water gun with me, and I had so much fun, this is something that you cannot experience in a city or water park . Opposite the river, was a campsite, which simply looked so relaxing and for sure gave me that sense of a more REAL Korea away from the glitz and glamour of the big cities. There were lots of small fish in the water and the water was very clear. I thought it was really nice to watch locals having fun and wanting to interact. There were many rocks where you could slide or jump into the water as well! After having so much fun in the river, and on the way back to the pension I walked through many different vegetable fields, it just felt really nice to see how fruits and vegetables are grown, and back to the simple life. For me, I lead a very fast paced life and I am always connected to my phone and laptop, so it was a great way to switch off as there was not much reception apart from WIFI. The BBQ I had that evening was very special, as we had our own private terrace area looking out to the beautiful mountains. There was also a cute dog that the owners had outside of their house which was next to the pension. The town itself was only a 20-minute drive away, and it was stunning. In the winter it is a famous place for having lots of snow and ski slopes, but come spring, summer and fall, the town is picturesque with it's natural mountains which are used for parasailing and rock climbing. You can book these tours in many experience centers in town. However, for me, I really enjoyed the local market . Here, I was able to get lunch from many of the local stalls. There was one famous store in the market that had a 30 minute line for it's garlic bread which was prepared onsite. It has also been featured on several Korean TV cooking shows. For me it was a little sweet, but nevertheless it was good to try. Without a doubt, I will be returning to this peaceful pension to escape the city and for some rest and relaxation! What a wonderful experience and I hope that I convinced you to go as well! • "I'm going to stab each one..." NewJeans death threat! Netizens respond to shocking news!

Dark news hit the internet on June 24 as global K-pop girl group NewJeans was targeted with a death threat ahead of their Japan debut from June 26 to June 27! We cover what happened, how Netizens responded, and discuss why this is happening to K-pop idols all over the industry! Shocking news hit Bunnies (the official fandom name for NewJeans) on June 24, 2024, as a photo of a kitchen knife with the caption "I'm going to give each one a stab when they get off their van," circulated a popular online community forum. The post was titled "I bought this to use at the NewJeans concert." NewJeans is scheduled to appear for their first two-day fan meeting called "Bunnies Camp 2024 Tokyo Dome" from June 26 - 27 for their Japanese debut. It has been confirmed that the photo had been copied and pasted from an online shopping site selling Japanese kitchen knives. It is still unknown whether the author had any real intent to commit the crime, but regardless of the intent, making the threat constitutes a crime. Bunnies and other K-pop fans reported that the post be taken down and notified NewJeans' agency, ADOR . This isn't the first time! Unfortunately, K-pop idols receive threats all the time. This specific incident that involved NewJeans portrays certain K-pop fans in a negative light. But why does this keep on happening? The phrase "sasaeng" or "sasaeng fan" ( 사생팬) is the South Korean term for "obsessive fan who acts in ways that invade the privacy of K-pop idols, drama actors, or other public figures in the entertainment industry." (Wikipedia) These fans feel the need to "stand out" from other fans by stalking, trying to comment on private chats, or taking photos of idols and other popular entertainment figures. Physical abuse is also a "sasaeng" act as a sasaeng fan reportedly slapped K-pop idol Yoochun of the group JYJ just so they could be remembered! However, we have to say that this type of "anti-fan" behavior is not only secluded to K-pop fans as sports fans and Western artists and actors also receive the same type of threats. Maybe because K-pop is becoming more global that it has gained interest from a global point-of-view that these incidents are becoming more frequent. What are your thoughts? Comment below! • Sokcho: A gateway to the North, and an unforgettable experience off the tourist trail!

Are you looking to have a different experience and off the beaten path during your stay in South Korea? Head to Sokcho in the northeastern region of South Korea this summer to find these unforgettable gems and experiences! Summer for me, means spending some time at the beach, and this year I wanted somewhere different to visit, rather than the stand-out Korean beach destinations such as Busan or Jeju Island , so instead I headed north, to the city of Sokcho. Despite being over a 4-hour drive from Daegu, there were many beautiful mountains and rest stops along the way! When I arrived at the main area of Sokcho, I was taken away by the incredible street art which lined the pier area floors, and the main tourist area! Scattered along the beach, there are many cafes and restaurants , and of course convenience stores ! However, unlike in European beach resorts, there were no beach facing bars! That aside, there were many people and the queue at the parking lot took some time. It gave me a chance to take in the beautiful Sokcho Eye! (From the car) though, when I got closer it reminded me of London and the London Eye. I decided not to ride it, although there were plenty of people waiting, and I can imagine that the view would have been really good! Instead, I took a walk up the pier, to watch locals fishing and to take some photos of the spectacular street art, and beach area. To the right, there were people learning how to surf in the shallows, and to my left, were families having fun at the beach. For me, it seemed like a great local beach destination where not many foreign visitors venture, so it was perfect! No trip to the beach would be complete without a photo zone! The beaches for me felt much better than the more famous ones of Busan and Jeju, as the sand was soft, the water was very clear and not polluted and this allowed you to see many fish swimming around you when you got in! Because I visited in the summer, the sea was warm so it was perfect for swimming, and a perfect way to cool off from the heat outside. I will say, that the main beach area was crowded with families, so I decided to swim a little further down the beach where it was very quiet. A great thing for me about the trip was the street food ! I mean who doesn't enjoy eating street food?! I opted for the octopus skewer, and I am glad I did! The flavor was AMAZING, and the owner of the stall said that it was caught earlier that day, which probably explains why the flavor was so good! If you don't like seafood, then there are still plenty of other options around for you to choose from! I stayed in Sokcho for two nights, and I it was the best decision that I made! I will be going back again sometime soon. I really suggest that if you are looking for an alternative to the packed jammed tourist beach destinations this year, that you should head and to Sokcho this year! How to get from Seoul to Sokcho? • The busking capital of South Korea, Hongdae & why it is a must-go on your Seoul trip!

For a long time now, Hongdae has been a popular destination for locals and tourists alike when they visit Seoul. This article will focus on why Hongdae should be on your MUST-do list for places to visit in Seoul this year! What can I say, Hongdae is a cultural and culinary destination that is not to be missed on your trip to Seoul. Many Korean celebrities can also be spotted here occasionally, and the area has also been featured in many travel series, dramas, and music videos ! Hongdae has so much going for it, not only is it located in central Seoul, it has a variety of clubs, bars, restaurants, and street performances, not to mention the thrift stores and photoshops! Due to its foreigner-friendly atmosphere, Hongdae has not only attracted many international visitors, but also locals. I have visited the area countless times, especially when I lived in Seoul. For me, it is one of the places where you can get Western food, and there is a great Mexican restaurant, though if you are after something more local, then KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) and beer will be around on most streets! In the afternoon on weekends, and during the evenings, you will also notice lots of buskers and street performers playing to crowds, which for me makes the atmosphere feel alive! Located nearby are some of the major universities in Seoul, and as a result it offers a younger demographic. Regardless of your taste in music or food, there will be a place for you to go. I recently discovered a rooftop bar that boasted a large cocktail menu and offered a fantastic view of the city. If you are like me, and you like people watching, then you will be in for a treat! At the end of the night, it is obligatory to visit one of the areas many photo studios. For me this concept is strange as these days everybody has a smart phone. however the fun loving feel good concept is a great factor, and I think it's great to try on all of the different costumes and accessories and not to mention the price is cheap as well. There are many different studios in the area which all offer something slightly different. How to get here: Hongik Univ. Station (line 2, exit 9). Turn left at the road just in front of the station exit and walk straight. At the 2nd cross street, you will reach Hongdae Shopping Street (i.e. Eoulmadang-ro). 1 min walk. Hongik Univ. Station (AREX Airport Railroad / Gyeongui–Jungang Line, exit 7). Turn right upon the station exit and cross the street in front. The start of Hongdae Shopping Street (i.e. Eoulmadang-ro) is on your right. 20m. Let us know in the comments below if you have been or will be visiting Hongdae this year, and tag us in your photos! #hongdae #busking #Seoultrip #funthingstodo #seoulevents

  • Explore the new wave of Korean AI and tech at Daegu's Robotics Festival!

Over the years AI and computer science have become increasingly popular, and as a result, more people have gained an interest in studying the subject and developing products. Dojeon team member, Lewis, heads over this year's Daegu Robotics Expo and you won't believe what he found! I really had no idea what to expect before I went to the Expo, and I genuinely left feeling motivated for the changes in technology for the future since I believe that this is something that Korea does well! Daegu is known as "Powerful Daegu" and this is mainly because of its advances and focus on technology. Held on June 4 , this particular Robotics Expo was open to students to showcase their innovative designs! The scale of the Expo center was really much bigger than I had expected it to be, and when I arrived at the venue, I was welcomed by an English-speaking guide to show me around! The Mayor of Daegu was also in attendance at the event, and I got to meet him at the end. I found out that this event takes place each year, and as a result, students from local schools and universities participate in their projects to gain rewards and recognition for their innovative ideas! What I thought was remarkable, was the amount of insanely great ideas some of the kids and entries had for ways in which technology can help improve our day-to-day lives for the better. I remember when I was in middle school, and there was no option to study computer science, as this was back in the early 2000s. It is incredible how fast technology has changed in a short space of time. Without a doubt, I will be returning to the event next year, as I think it's great to experience many different things while I am in Korea, and I think it should be on your list of places to visit as well! If you're interested in going to the next expo, Daegu will be holding its 13th Robot Expo from Wednesday, October 23 - Saturday, October, 26 at the EXCO Center! Click here for more details!
