Cherry blossom season is upon us! This short guide will help you explore the best photoesque locations to spot the beautiful blossoms in South Korea this spring! So grab a friend and or/a family member and let's get to exploring! Daegu Now perhaps I am bias, but I think Daegu is the perfect place to see the cherry blossoms this year. Not only is Daegu the warmest city in Korea, but it also boasts many romantic and photogenic places to enjoy the cherry blossoms. With its warmer climate, you can also spot the blossoms earlier than in other cities. This year the blossoms are expected to bloom from March 22, 2024. E-World, which is shown in the picture above will allow you to enjoy theme park rides and roller coasters at the same time, or if you prefer a coffee and a walk, then I would recommend heading to Suseong Lake . Here, you can enjoy a cute café and get some amazing photos! Seoul Now, being a mega city, Seoul of course has heaps of places where you can enjoy the cherry blossoms this Spring. However, I recommend heading to Lotte Tower first. Here, you can enjoy stunning skyscraper views, but also take amazing shots of this springtime flower. This area is often visited by locals, so it should give you a better chance to get some good photos! Of course, there are many cherry blossom festivals in Seoul too! For the more quiet festival you should head to Yangjaecheon Stream , or if a lantern festival is more for you, then head to Seokchon Lake Park at night to enjoy the blossoms and the bright colors of the illuminations. The best time to see the 2024 Cherry Blossoms in Seoul is anticipated to be around April 4th! Busan March 22 is the start of the cherry blossoms this year in Busan . Now being a costal city and Korea's second-largest city, Busan is a great destination! A great place to head to is Dalmaji-gil Road , because of its high peak, it offers outstanding views of many cherry blossom trees and the beach at the same time! If a hike isn't for you then I would suggest going for a walk along Oncheoncheon Stream . It is known as "Cherry Blossom Road" and will enable you to take in the moment and capture stunning photos too! While you visit, why not rent a bike or take a jog? Elsewhere, Samnak Ecological Park is a peaceful setting to connect with all sorts of nature, including wildflower colonies and wetlands. During the Samnak Cherry Blossom Festival, make a beeline to the blossom tunnel that runs along the Nakdong River. You will not be disappointed! Jeju Island Last on my list is of course, Korea's largest island, Jeju ! This year it's expected that from March 24 you will be able to see these beautiful blossoms on the island. Jeju's native "King Cherry trees" offer the most dramatic cherry blossoms in Korea. Given the warm climate in Jeju, you can spot the blossoms earlier than in other cities on the mainland. The blossoms here are very large, so some branches tend to disappear underneath them. That's pretty cool, right? You’ll see king cherry blossoms all over the island in the spring, with several tree-lined streets around the island serving as locales for the annual Jeju Cherry Blossom Festival. Two roads to prioritize for blossom viewing during your visit are Jeonnong-ro, a bustling street with many cafes and restaurants that are adorned with lanterns to add to the atmosphere and the pedestrian-friendly Jangjeon-ri with its cherry blossom tunnel. Other points of interest that double as prime viewing spots include Jeju National University and Jeju Stadium, the town of Aewol-eup, Hallim Park, Seongeup Folk Village, and Seopjikoji Hill. If you are a dog lover, and are looking for an alternative and very Instagramable café to visit this spring, then you should check out Balnesia dog café in Daegu ! Now, I have three Korean rescue dogs, so I am always looking for a place to take them. Also, as photography is a hobby of mine, I had found it really hard to find a café where I can enjoy my hobby and let the dogs play. That all changed when I discovered Balnesia café in Daegu. The café on the outskirts of Daegu , boasts a wide indoor and outdoor play space and on top of that Balnesia has a dog hotel, training centre and day care centre, and fairly priced snacks and drinks. European inspiration, has led Balnesia to be a cool, romantic and Instagramable photo destination whether you have a dog or not! The café has many photo areas where you can enjoy taking pictures with your furry friends, or simply taking in the European views, and pretending that you are in Spain or France for the afternoon! My dogs all really loved coming to the café, and the staff were very friendly which made the visit even more enjoyable. All of my dogs are able to run around and interact with other people and dogs which is amazing for their social skills. Whilst they were doing this, I was able to take some cut pictures, and enjoy some much needed relaxation! Once you’re inside the café, you’ll see a lot of dogs roaming about. Many dog cafés have an assortment of breeds both big and small to suit nearly everyone’s tastes. The dogs are free to roam around in most areas. Balnesia had a fully-stocked menu full of coffee , cappuccinos, espressos, and non-caffeinated beverages. You can also eat all sorts of café fare, usually pastries and perhaps donuts and cupcakes too and of course ramen ! Of course, there are treats to purchase for your four legged friends too! Whether you have a dog or you simply want to hang out with some for the afternoon, then Balnesia is the place to head this spring. When I was there, there were many customers who came solely to interact with dogs, and did not actually own a dog themselves. Soju is South Korea's most popular alcoholic drink! From plain to grapefruit and blueberry, this national beverage has many flavors in between! We take a look at why soju is taking over the globe and how to properly drink it (the Korean way)! Now, in Asia soju is very popular, especially in its native Korea. Though recently, it has become popular in other countries too, often showcasing their unique flavor. I recently travelled to Japan and noticed various flavors of Soju on the shelves, as well as UK supermarkets also selling it! Soju often has little to no flavor, though you can buy flavors such as grapefruit, plum, and orange. These can also be mixed into cocktails, due to their lower alcohol content, which makes them a perfect addition. Koreans often drink soju with beer (also called "So-Maek", 소맥) , though often it is drinking neat, which for sure will leave you feeling the effects the day after. The alcohol content is around 12 percent, which makes it a light enough drink to enjoy alone or with friends, especially when you have a BBQ like in the picture above, which is also one of my favorite meals! There are different brands of soju, though Jinro is paving the way by exporting it to many countries around the world, especially the UK, where a bottle will set you back around £6 (US 7.60), which is a lot more expensive than in Korea, where a bottle will set you back around 2,200 won (£1.80 or US 2.29). Of course, other brands of soju have not left the Korean shore, but I am sure that this will change with the ever-growing trend and popularity of Korean products worldwide. South Korea, is known for its heavy drinking culture, and soju can be seen as a watered-down version of vodka, as it is around half its strength. From this, it is also a healthier option as it has zero carbohydrates and is made from natural ingredients. With the Korean wave, it is only natural that Soju will have its place being exported to different countries. Also, as more Koreans travel abroad their favorite products will follow them! Drinking in Korea is for sure very popular, and Korea has one of the highest alcohol consumption rates in the world! For me, adapting to the Korean drink culture was easy, and I have to say that the fresh flavor of soju is my favorite, as it goes well with most food and leaves me feeling not too hungover, unlike the flavored ones. Even K-pop idols like Jay Park have even launched their soju brand! And of course, soju is found in almost EVERY K-drama!
