During its initial release, it held a disappointing one percent of viewership (1.6% according to Nielsen Korea); however, that was not going to be for long. The drama has now risen to the top and is now dominating global OTT rankings. So what is happening? Why the sudden change? This culinary drama has now overtaken other much-loved trending dramas such as tvN's Resident Playbook and JTBC's Heavenly Ever After. Go Min Si can bring her emotional depths and versatility when it comes to playing various roles, and Kang Ha Neul is a well-established actor who is often highly sought after by casting directors for K-dramas. Song Ji Hyo is also a beloved household name actress, and after her leading role in the show Running Man , she became a favorite to star in this drama. Cha Joo Young, known for her impactful and captivating roles in acclaimed dramas such as The Glory and The Spies Who Loved Me , Cha Joo Young has demonstrated a powerful on-screen presence. Lee Ki Taek is an actor gaining increasing recognition, and his developing talent suggests a potential for significant leading roles in the future. While Kim Yu Hwan , a potentially newer face to some, has made appearances in dramas like Bad Prosecutor and has upcoming projects, indicating a growing presence in the industry. His inclusion in a cast brings a fresh and dynamic element to a production. Interest in Korean food Global interest in Korean food in recent years has also been said to boost the show's ratings. This is due to traditional Korean cuisine being at the heart of the show, with entertainment and strong storytelling throughout in order to make it more engaging for the viewer. Similar things happened with Extraordinary Attorney Woo , where gimbap took on a global food trend after the show's release, since it was prominent and featured heavily throughout the drama. Fan reactions We previously wrote about fans of the show loving the chemistry between Kang Ha Neul and Go Min Si , due to the unspoken edge-of-your-seat tension between them, however, that's not all! Their dynamic journey from opposition to affection serves as a metaphor for growth, healing, and emotional nourishment. This culinary love story did not follow the social norms of the typical Cinderella love story, and in fact, adapted its unique style to take this drama to the next level, which made it easy to watch! In addition, Go Min Si  also plays her role really well too, delivering countless laughs to viewers of the show. The infamous title track “ THUNDER ” is said to compare the members' journey of expanding their individual worlds to thunder and lightning, which helps to symbolize their transformation into unique, talented artists. A great thing about this new track is that it was co-written and composed by Woozi , the group’s lead producer, and Bumzu , with member S.Coups . Since it's the band's ten year anniversary, it focuses on the members' rebirth and expansion of their own worlds as unique artists. Despite the long hours (around 18 hours), it was an awesome experience! The set was a club scene theme, and each level of detail that went into creating the ambiance of the set, even down to where the cups were placed on the tables, was highly thought out to the smallest detail. They were all very friendly the whole time as well, which was great! On the day, there were so many people, from the band themselves to stylists, a wardrobe team, production, and around 100 extras, so it was a fast-paced set and a big production! I also thought that it was very impressive with the creative and visual dynamics which were used, through to the various angles and cuts which were shot that day, as it took a lot of time setting up the camera in various positions and repeating the same scene. The 3-minute music video from an 18-hour shoot is a testament to the painstaking art of filmmaking and editing that is done before the final edited version of the video is released to audiences. It highlights the vast difference between the raw material, which is shot on site, to the polished, snappy editing, though thankfully I made a very short appearance in the video as seen in the picture above. Having the intense EDM sound also helps to create an overall electrifying feeling. This grows more addictive as "Thunder"  develops, climaxing in a fantastic dance break toward the song’s finale, which, for me, is a reason why this song will be on repeat! Squid Game season 3 is the final season in the series, and will premiere on June 27, 2025, picking right up where season 2 left off! Are you ready for the ultimate showdown? This final season aims to deliver a thrilling conclusion, and to achieve this, the budget is staggering! It is said to be ₩100 billion (roughly USD 68.62 million). Here's our question: Will the game spare any survivors? Netflix has released its official trailer, so let's take a look at what we can expect in the games! Plot twists (*Spoilers!) Season three aims to show a side of vengeance and an attempt to dismantle the deadly games once and for all. This all comes as part of the continuation of Gi Hun's ( Lee Jung Jae ) fight, as we saw in seasons 1 and 2. This would not be complete without trying to confront the Front Man ( Lee Byung Hun ). The unresolved conflict that has escalated between Gi Hun and the Front Man, will be the central point of the plot for season 3, and a clash is expected to be on the cards with his former friend. Will this lead us to the truth? Gi Hun is still unaware that Young Il is the Front Man of the games, and the revelation of this will for sure be a significant part in season 3, adding conflict, betrayal, and disbelief. Characters fate Will there be new players in the new series? As the games will continue, season 3 will feature new players in a bid to share their desperate stories and motivations behind their desire to join the deadly games. It does make for a good TV show, however we can't help but feel a sense of sadness watching the desperation on the players' faces. This final season will be emotional as its the final season, the expectations on finding out about the conclusion of Gi Hun's rollercoaster story should hopefully all come to and end. Costly ruling: NewJeans (NJZ) faces a 1 billion won (USD 724,000) penalty for unauthorized activity! What happened, how did fans react, and what does the future of NewJeans look like? Image: New Jeans ADOR 2025 Photo: Koreaboo A court in Seoul has ruled that each NewJeans member must pay ADOR 1 billion won which works out around $725,000 USD to each unauthorized entertainment activity which is conducted without prior approval to ADOR , while their legal battle is on going. This has come into effect since the legal battle between NewJeans and ADOR has taken a dramatic turn, and ADORs plea for indirect control has been answered. If this because of their financial influence? Some think that this sets the stage for a really high stakes showdown in the court room, especially as NewJeans faces crippling financial penalties for every step taken out of line. What do you think? To avoid disaster, the latest ruling is not aimed as a weapon against the members as it means that NewJeans escapes a potentially ruinous multi-billion won debt for the activities they've pursued since their defiant contract termination announcement. Last November, NewJeans held an emergency press conference and stated that they were stepping down and terminating their exclusive contracts with ADOR, and therefore began taking on their activities, and came up with the new name NJZ . As a resu lt, ADOR filed an emergency injunction with the court to preserve the agency's contracts and status, which prohibited the girls from advertising and using NewJeans songs, names, among other things. The court ruled that NewJeans members should not engage in entertainment activities on their own or through third parties without prior approval or consent from ADOR. How Did Fans React? Our thoughts The Dojeon Media team strongly agrees that the girls should not use the NewJeans name while going through court proceedings, as the name is exclusive to the record label ADOR. To be honest, since the girls acted out of line holding YouTube press conferences with little to no warning, it shows that NewJeans might be in over their heads with ADOR with its highly informed legal team. Not to mention they wanted to reinstate the former head of ADOR after she was ousted, causing every attempt to gain attention from the public with brining up their up and down relationship with CEO of ADOR Min Hee Jin . That said, the amount that have the court ruled seems to be a tremendous amount, although it could reflect what the members are earning with their music and band name, which is pretty impressive.
