Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area Native Title: 종이의 집: 공동경제구역 Also Known As: House of Paper: Joint Economic Area Screenwriter: Ryu Yong Jae, Kim Hwan Chae, Choi Sung Jun Director: Kim Hong Sun Genres: Action, Heist, Drama, Crime Episodes: 6 Where to watch: Netflix A remake of the original Spanish La Casa de Papel, Money Heist: Korea follows a group of robbers assembled by criminal mastermind "The Professor" to pull off the biggest heist in reunified Korean history. With hostages trapped inside the royal mint and the police right outside, the crew must band together to find a way to pull it off. Our Opinion. The original Spanish version of Money Heist is hard to beat. And with such high expectations, we don't anticipate this series to top the original especially if it is following the storyline very accurately. It does have some Korean-influenced scenes throughout the series, but not enough to launch it to the top position. 4. Alchemy of Souls Native Title: 환혼 Also Known As: Soul Marriage, Return Screenwriter: Hong Jung Eun, Hong Mi Ran Director: Park Joon Hwa Genres: Fantasy, Romance, Period, Action Episodes: 20 Where to watch: Netflix A tale about a dangerous assassin, Naksu, whose soul gets accidentally trapped inside the body of a physically weak Mu Deok. Mu Deok is sold to servitude to the noble Jang household where she meets Jang Wook andd becomes his servant. Eventually, Mu Deok teaches Jang Wook how to fight. Our Opinion. A fun period drama with K-pop idol-looking cast! There are scenes of comedic relief woven in between action and brewing romance between the main characters. The series has a good storyline, but just not enough to crack our top three. 3. Why Her Native Title: 왜 오수재인가 Also Known As: Why Her? Screenwriter: Kim Ji Eun Director: Park Soo Jin Genres: Mystery, Melodrama, Legal, Romance Episodes: 16 Where to watch: Dramacool Coldhearted lawyer, Oh Soo Jae , the youngest partner of South Korea's best law firm, TK Law Firm, gets caught up in an unexpected case and is demoted to an adjunct professor position at Seojung University law school. She falls for one of her students, Gong Chan, who is an exceptional student and cares for her deeply. They team up with other law students to take down corruption at society's highest level. Our Opinion. Great acting with a good cast of characters. Although the age differences between the main characters are cause for concern, it doesn't take away from the storyline and makes sense. A strong independent woman character always makes for a good drama especially if the male lead is there only as a backup. Include a great storyline and it will crack top 3 on our list! 2. Insider Native Title: 인사이더 Also Known As: Insider Screenwriter: Moon Man Se Director: Min Yeon Hong Genres: Action, Suspense, Thriller Episodes: 16 Where to watch: Dramacool Kim Yo Han works as a judicial apprentice. He is just starting his career when he is given an undercover assignment to bust an illegal gambling ring in Seoul but isn't able to capture Chairman Yang, the top leader of The Skin Nation. Because of this, his superiors, Mok Jin Hyung and Noh Young Guk suggest that he pose as a prisoner to get film evidence from Chairman Yang's right-hand man, Lee Tae Gwang, which is currently serving a prison sentence. Once in prison, Yo Han must find a way to accomplish his mission while surviving his fellow prison mates, the ones he put away. Our Opinion. Action, suspense, drama. What more can you ask for from a prison drama. With tons of action and backstabbing while in the can, the cliché innocent main character has to fight his way out to survive and get his revenge. With lots of plot twists and flashbacks, this series is unpredictable and exciting to watch! 1. Eve Native Title: 이브 Also Known As: Eve's Scandal Screenwriter: Yoon Young Mi Director: Park Bong Seop Genres: Melodrama, Revenge Episodes: 16 Where to watch: Dramacool A story of a vengeful daughter, Lee La El, whose father dies unexpectedly due to corporate corruption and greed. She prepared for 13 years to take her revenge on the chaebol family who tore her family apart. With the help of a young National Assemblyman, she vows to take revenge on the richest family in South Korea. Our Opinion. Without any expectations, this surprisingly became number one on our list! There are a few scenes where some of the characters' actions were a little over the top, but given the situation, it is to be expected. What do we think of this remake of the Spanish version of La Casa De Papel ? We break down our reasons why you should still watch it! Variety of characters + North vs. South Korea Although the Korean version of the remake contains the same eclectic group of characters, their backgrounds and stories are a bit different. Berlin, for example, grew up in a North Korean camp where he was abused by other older workers as a child. This makes this version of the story a little more intriguing. If you like Korean culture and history, then watch on! The mix of North Koreans and South Koreans in the Joint Economic Area is something quite interesting to watch. There is a constant struggle between the South Korean capitalists vs. the North Korean communists' mindset throughout the series. Characters constantly are butting heads with each other due to their upbringing, and this causes some spicy cultural flavor to arise! Korean culture sprinkled in. Netflix always does an amazing job of combining local culture with global taste. Although most fans have seen the original and are expecting the same type of story, Netflix throws a curveball and decides to change slight differences in culture, for example, food! Throughout the series, the characters are seen eating traditional Korean food, either at the site of the heist or at home. If you are a fan of K-dramas, then you know what I mean! Koreans love sharing their food with the world! Should you watch it? Even for long-time fans, Money Heist: Korea is still worth the stream! The clash of different character backgrounds with a splash of Korean culture and food is a breath of fresh air from the original. Although the story and basis are still the same, we feel that the remake still has some value for long-time fans to enjoy! For new fans, you're in for a treat! There are still many Korean fans who have not seen the series yet and after telling them the background story, they immediately decided to jump on Netflix and start streaming!
