- 5 K-Dramas Where Love Sparked Through Comic Books
The official poster for W: Two Worlds (Image via MBC). Webtoons and manhwa are at the heart of the K-drama world. Not only have some of our favorite dramas been born out of web comics, but these stories have also acted as Cupid, sparking romance and bringing couples closer. Whether love blossoms inside the magical world of a comic or because of it, webtoons often become the sweetest catalyst for K-drama relationships. Just picture your favorite couple curled up together, laughing and teasing each other over their favorite panels. Here are 5 K-dramas where comic books played matchmaker and love lit up the pages — and the screen. 1. W: Two Worlds (2016) The official trailer for W: Two Worlds (Video via Viki Global TV). This drama boasts a fascinating storyline in which Oh Yeon-joo ( Han Hyo-joo ) discovers that the webtoon her father created, W , is actually real — and that its protagonist, Kang Cheol ( Lee Jong-suk ), truly exists. An unexpected romance blossoms between the handsome, charismatic Kang Cheol of the “W” world and Oh Yeon-joo of the real world, where their fates and hearts collide. Together, they must face extraordinary circumstances if they want to stay together. W: Two Worlds is innovative, ahead of its time, and a must-watch where comics act as both cupid and catalyst for the lead couple. 2. Twenty-Five Twenty-One (2022) The official trailer for Twenty-Five Twenty-One (Video via Netflix) Set in the nostalgic era of the 1990s, Twenty-Five Twenty-One follows Baek Yi-jin ( Nam Joo-hyuk ), a once-privileged young man now struggling with part-time jobs after his family’s downfall, and Na Hee-do ( Kim Tae-ri ), a spirited fencing champion. Their paths repeatedly cross at a local comic book shop, where Hee-do is a regular customer and Yi-jin works behind the counter. Comics become the spark of a short-lived yet unforgettable romance — one that leaves behind memories to last a lifetime. And of course, who could forget the iconic scene where Hee-do runs out of the store, tear-streaked and bawling over a revelation about her favorite comic? Both hilarious and heartfelt, it’s a moment fans will never let go. 3. True Beauty (2020) The official trailer for True Beauty (Video via CJENM Global). What happens when a boy who seems to have it all — good looks, top grades, wealth, and endless admirers — falls for a clumsy, awkward, yet kind-hearted girl who just so happens to share his love for horror comics? A match made in K-drama heaven! Cha Eun-woo ’s Lee Su-ho and Moon Ga-young ’s Lim Ju-kyung first cross paths at a local comic store as children, and fate brings them together again as adults. Their romance blooms over shared manhwa, steaming bowls of spicy ramyeon, and laughter that carries them through life’s ups and downs. And of course, who can forget Lee Su-ho’s adorable aegyo to comfort a heartbroken Ju-kyung — all captured at their favorite comic book store? Truly unforgettable. 4. Extraordinary You (2019) The official trailer for Extraordinary You (Video via KOCOWA TV). Imagine discovering that your entire life is just part of a comic book — and that you’re not even the heroine, but merely an extra. That’s exactly what happens to Eun Dan-oh ( Kim Hye-yoon ), a bright, lively girl with a heart condition who is engaged to Baek Kyung ( Lee Jae-wook ). When she realizes she’s destined to die as a side character, Dan-oh refuses to accept her fate. Determined to rewrite her story, she takes charge of her own destiny — and in the process, falls in love with the mysterious Haru ( Rowoon ). Extraordinary You is frothy, fun, and heartfelt, serving as a delightful ode to the magic of manhwa. 5. Pop Out Boy! (2020) The trailer for Pop Out Boy! (Video via Playlist Global). What happens when the perfect leading man — tall, handsome, and charming — literally steps out of the pages of a romance comic into real life? That’s exactly the premise of Pop Out Boy! Chun Nam-wook ( Kim Min-kyu ), the flawless male lead of a fictional manhwa, suddenly pops into the real world and crosses paths with Han Sun-nyul ( Kim Do-yeon ), an ordinary high school girl. Fiction collides with reality, and the result is chaos, comedy, and plenty of heart-fluttering moments straight out of a comic book . - “Bon Appétit, Your Majesty”: The Real History Behind a Brutal Joseon King
How does this period drama unveil the tragic and tyrannical reign of King Yeonsangun? We unveil the evil truth behind this popular historical drama! Image: Lim Yoona and Lee Chae Min ’s Bon Appétit, Your Majesty - Photo: kdramawave.com The Netflix K-drama Bon Appétit, Your Majesty has quickly become a fan obsession, because it has captivated audiences worldwide, thanks to its unique blend of romance, comedy, and historical fantasy. While it features a familiar time-slip premise starring Im Yoon Ah and Lee Chae Min , what many viewers might not know is that the show is inspired by real Korean history, which is why the Dojeon team believe this K-drama is more than just a feel good show. The series is actually based on the web novel Surviving as Yeonsangun’s Chef , which itself draws from the life of a real Joseon-era ruler. This K-drama is a great way for international audiences to learn about Korean history in a subtle way. The true history behind the drama Behind this new Netflix drama, is a deep history that has become embedded within Korean culture as we know it today. Bon Appétit, Your Majesty i s a tragic tale of power and vengeance. King Yeonsangun , who ruled Korea between the years of 1494 to 1506, was raised in a palace shrouded in secrecy. He was led to believe that his mother was Queen Jeonghyeon , only to discover the devastating truth early in his reign: his biological mother, Queen Yun, had been exiled and poisoned, which later he would set out a non stop quest in order to find the perpetrator and get justice. Lim Yoon-a and Lee Chae-min in Bon Appétit, Your Majesty Courtesy of Studio Dragon/Netflix When his attempts to posthumously restore her title and honor were met with resistance, Yeonsangun unleashed a brutal series of purges, executing anyone he held responsible for her death. His reign of terror was so extreme that historical accounts claim he personally carried out some of the killings, forever branding him as one of Joseon's most tyrannical rulers. These scenes can be seen in the drama, where some of the scenes left viewers literally sitting on the edge of their seats. This was not all, as after his initial purges, King Yeonsangun's cruelty escalated dramatically as he banned free speech, outlawed Hangul, and shuttered royal universities for his personal use. His tyranny also extended to the mass kidnapping of hundreds of women for his entertainment and the attempt to dismantle Buddhism across the nation. His ruthless acts led him to execute not only protestors but also influential and educated people who stood against him. After 12 years of brutal rule, the king was finally overthrown and exiled, dying just two months later. Although Hangul is the national language of Korea today, around the time of his reign, there was much confusion about who and what to believe. Were his actions right? Were they looking out for the Korean people? Or did King Yeongsangun have tunnel vision in his own furious quests? The power of K-dramas and the Korean entertainment industry The Korean entertainment industry is booming, thanks to K-dramas and the global admiration for K-culture. It has been able to demonstrate its remarkable power in reinventing history to transform even the most brutal historical figures in a way that the younger generation will understand and engage with. While classic films like The King and the Clown portrayed the tyranny of King Yeonsangun, the Netflix K-drama Bon Appétit, Your Majesty strategically re-imagines him as the fictional character Lee Heon. This creative choice frees the narrative from historical baggage, allowing it to seamlessly blend time travel, food, and romance into a globally appealing series. By doing these things, K-dramas have been able to prove their unique ability to bring new life to ancient empires, making complex history accessible and engaging for millions of viewers worldwide. What more will the Korean Entertainment industry bring in the near future? Why do you think Korean period dramas are gaining popularity? Comment below and let the Dojeon team know! #BonAppetitYourMajesty #NetflixKdrama #HistoricalRomance #KingYeonsangun #JoseonHistory #KoreanDrama
- “Kpop Demon Hunters” Takes Center Stage: K-Pop Gets a Musical Twist!
Netflix eyes a live-action adaptation of Kpop Demon Hunter s ! We explain why this highly anticipated move might be a little harder said than done. Image: Kpop Demon Hunters - Photo: NETFLIX The Rise of Kpop Demon Hunters The global animated film phenomenon Kpop Demon Hunters is more than just a compilation K-pop songs. In-fact it has embraced and showcased Korean culture to a global audience, thanks to the high energy world of K-pop, and the movies original catchy songs which have topped the charts in several countries! Following its massive success, fans and industry insiders are buzzing about what's next. Could the stage be calling? The directors themselves have described the movie as a "real musical", sparking discussions about a potential live-action film and, most excitingly, a stage musical adaptation. While a Broadway or West End debut isn't officially confirmed, the stage is set for a new kind of performance. The Dojeon team would for sure be there to soak in the musical if it is confirmed! From Screenplay to Stage: The Art of Adaptation Alright, so although it sounds great to have a musical version of the movie, it is not as simple as it may sound, and as a result, it is a fairly complex journey. Not only do the rights need to be confirmed by the producers of the movie, which is at times an expensive process, but the creative team also needs to think about how they can bring such a production alive. The book writer adapts the film's screenplay into a stage script, known as the "book", which may involve condensing the plot or combining characters to fit the theatrical format. The composer and lyricist then create original songs that aren't just for show—they are essential to the plot, serving to advance the story and reveal the emotional depth of the characters, often replacing what would have been dialogue or inner thoughts in the film, which is what makes live musicals all the more engaging and special for the audience. K-pop musicals are a rapidly growing part of the entertainment industry, blending the spectacle of K-pop with traditional musical theater. While some are original productions, many are adaptations of Western musicals, with K-pop idols taking on lead roles. This phenomenon, often called "K-musicals", has become a significant stage for idols to expand their careers and connect with fans in a new way. Key K-Pop Idols in Musicals K-pop, being on the global radar, is now a successful style of music in its own right. Some musical artists from Korea, such as Fin K L and Ock Joo-hyun, have pioneered this field, and have been able to star in productions like Legally Blonde and Mamma Mia! . Kyuhyun of Super Junior, who has appeared in numerous shows like The Man Who Laughs and Ben Hur . Their participation brings a massive and dedicated fan base to the theater, boosting ticket sales and public interest. The Journey to Opening Night Once the script and score are finalized, the production moves into its next phase. A director and choreographer are brought on board to shape the performance, while a design team crafts the sets, costumes, and lighting that will bring the world of the movie to life. The cast then undergoes a rigorous rehearsal period, learning the music, lines, and choreography, which is all very important to the show. At times, the show is often all about fan reactions and involvement, similar to Christmas pantomimes, which makes the journey all the more special for the stars of the show and the audience. Kpop Demon Hunters has sparked conversations across fan communities, with theories and comparisons still going viral. It’s a love letter to the genre that doesn’t copy but rather celebrates the spirit of the industry, and the forever love of musicals worldwide. Can this pipe dream become a reality in the near future? We would love to hear your thoughts on this new Kpop Demon Hunters musical twist in the comments below! What are your favorite songs from the award-winning show? Let the Dojeon team know! #KpopMusical #Netflix #DemonHunters #LiveAction #Kpop #KpopNews

She runs a dedicated fan site, sharing exclusive photos and insider updates with fellow fans. Add some idol-fan drama, workplace antics, and a fake dating plot , and you’ve got a rom-com that’s nothing short of gold (pun fully intended). 3. Reply 1997 (2012) The official teaser for Reply 1997 (Video via ANI-HONGO), The first installment of the beloved Reply series is a heartfelt ode to the world of idols and fangirls. While this drama focuses more on the harsh realities and struggles of the K-pop industry, it wouldn’t be complete without exploring the fangirl experience. Meanwhile, her friend Lee Yu-jin ( Jeong Yun-ho ) of the group Sparkling secretly harbors feelings for her, adding another layer to the drama’s interpersonal web. What sets Imitation apart is how it highlights a young female idol’s fangirl devotion to another female star—a fresh and compelling twist in a world where fangirling is often portrayed through a male idol’s lens. 5. To the Beautiful You (2012) The official trailer for To The Beautiful You (Video via xvannax3). When we think of fangirls, it’s usually in the context of K-pop idols, actors, or singers. - MADEIN: How Digital Deception Ignited Fan Outrage
K-pop controversy around an agency's social media blunder, and the fan outrage that exposed a deeper crisis involving a serious accusation and a missing member! Image: MADEIN K-pop - Photo: kpopping.com K-pop has exploded in recent years, thanks to its impressive dance moves, the inclusion of Western lyrics, and its idols' good looks and charms. But even chart-topping acts like the multinational girl group MADEIN are not exempt from drama! Recently, they've landed in hot water after their team recycled an old blog post during a messy member exit linked to agency issues. Fans immediately saw through this deceptive move, recognizing it as a lazy attempt to manage a serious crisis. This "reheated content" approach completely backfired, igniting widespread fan fury and a social media firestorm. The fanbase, feeling disrespected and betrayed, is now demanding accountability and real answers. Let's dive into the core of this major digital deception and fan revolt. Creating a public nightmare among fans At first, the excitement over the new updates surrounding the girl group MADEIN left fans on the edge of their seats; however, this initial excitement quickly turned into frustration and anger once fans spotted a digital deception. This came once the band's agency dropped a blog post, which was an exact copy of an old one, except for one difference. Member Yeseo was mysteriously removed from the post, which means that the agency photoshopped her out of the image. This lazy "re-post and crop" tactic—dropped right amid deep agency turmoil, and was seen by the fandom as a complete disregard for the group's reality. As a result, fans of the band took to social media, accusing 143 Entertainment of being utterly out of touch and disrespectful. This scandal, erupting just as new music was being teased in August 2025, has generated immense frustration with no apology offered. In the K-Pop world, where fans are hyper-vigilant, this single misstep has transformed hopeful anticipation into a unified, viral online rant. Is there hope after this fan backlash? Although there is an ongoing digital scandal surrounding the band's agency, with police investigations, MADEIN is pushing ahead with their career and aspirations as K-pop artists, and have since released their EP MADEIN FOREVER and have been performing at Japan's Kansai Collection. At the same time, fans are refusing to give up with their argument, and they have maintained pressure on 143 Entertainment, having signed petitions against them, in order to resolve the situation. This whole mess underscores a tough reality: even K-pop idols face high-pressure pitfalls, reminding fans they are just people navigating a challenging industry. Ultimately, the passionate fandom hopes this intense spotlight forces real, positive changes—like safer environments and fairer deals—so the music and the artists can thrive without constant drama, in the future. However, as we have seen before, agencies and managers often feed misinformation to the press or post it online, for interest in their product (in this case MADEIN), as any press, good or bad, is still interested in the band. What are your thoughts on this controversial topic? We would love to hear from you in the comments below! #KPopDeception #RecycledPostsScandal #DigitalOutrage #KPopAccountability #FanOutrage #AgencyFail

Now it's double cleansing, serums, essences, and SPF every day. Indians are fully into the glow-up culture, trying Korean brands, watching GRWM (get ready with me) videos, and creating skin-care routines that actually work. K-beauty isn’t about covering flaws. Speaking with Iqra Siddiqui. Entertainment Journalist shares, "I think the Korean Wave became huge in India because of a perfect mix of smart marketing, timing, and, honestly, a bit of clever psychology. First, the skincare industry . Koreans promote their products as if they were the ultimate beauty secret passed down through generations. Of course, we all know part of that flawless, “mirror-skin” glow comes from genetics. But the way they sell it, you feel like if you buy that one toner or sheet mask, you too could look like a K-drama lead. It’s genius! Then there’s K-pop. It had always had its loyal fans, but it really gained mainstream popularity once idols started adding English lyrics and collaborating with global artists." She adds, "Post-COVID also played a huge role. Everyone was stuck at home with OTT platforms and free time, and suddenly K-dramas and K-pop became the comfort food of entertainment. So in short, it’s smart promotion, accessible content, and a whole lot of relatability. Plus, let’s be honest: if someone can look flawless while crying in the rain or eating ramen, we’re going to follow whatever trend they set." Market research shows that Millennials and Gen Z are highly influenced by Korean culture. It’s not just K-dramas, K-pop , or K-fashion—Indians are also embracing the Korean language . Korean has rapidly gained traction in India, becoming the fastest-growing foreign language, with the number of learners increasing by 50% between 2021 and 2022. Duolingo reports that Korean remains among the most popular languages in Indian states like Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and West Bengal—ranking as the third-most learned language after English and Hindi. K-beauty has captured the market, finding its way into the shopping carts of Indian women everywhere. The K-Beauty Boom In the Indian Market: More Than Just Skincare Market Momentum: Imports of Korean skincare products increased by over 63% year-over-year, with volumes quadrupling since 2020. Though still below 5% of India’s $16 billion beauty market, Korea now commands around 15% of the skincare segment. The Glass Skin Theory: Indian Influencers are obsessed with glass skin care, brightening skin cream, and anti-ageing products. Even Indian brands have begun to adopt the 'Korean Formula' to boost their sales. For example, a renowned toothpaste product of India has collaborated with singer IU to promote. This has skyrocketed the sales. Territorial Spread: The craze isn’t limited to metros—Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities are driving growth (200% jump year-on-year on one of the fashion brands), particularly with accessible SKUs like sheet masks. Speaking with Peuli Bakshi, Entertainment Journalist shares, "To be candid Indian films, series have lost their reputation in the last couple of years, especially during Covid because Indian was a more film-dependent rather than OTT series-dependent industry and for K-ent it's always been series over movies and they didn't even stop production during Covid so naturally many new viewers they had during that time". She adds, "The influence definitely comes from K-entertainment and K-beauty is being endorsed by big influencers and all, so Indian people are trying it out, and even if they are expensive, the brands are inclusive, they have proven to work for all skin types, and so people purchase it". From K-pop idols dropping ' Namaste ' during interviews to Korean brands launching in India, this bond is growing stronger. At the end of the day, this isn’t just about music or beauty. It’s about how Indians are building a cultural connection across borders, driven by curiosity, creativity, and vibes. The K-Wave feels personal because it is personal. - "Gangnam Style" Scandal: PSY Caught in Drug-Fueled Firestorm!
Korean singer Psy is under police investigation over an alleged medical law violation. Is he headed for prison time? We have the details! Image: PSY - Photo: Tech-wd.com The global icon is no longer just "under investigation" In a recent shocking turn of events, the artists who, in many people's opinions, single-handedly put K-pop and Korea on the global map have come under police investigation for illegally obtaining prescription sleeping medication. PSY , the man behind his signature "horse dance", is now at the front of a dark scandal. Fans are wondering if there might be a deeper, more sinister secret lurking beneath the surface of this scandal. PSY is now at the center of a police probe for allegedly obtaining prescriptions for the highly addictive psychotropic drugs Xanax and Stilnox in violation of South Korean law since 2022. It has come to light that the "Gangnam Style" star has been receiving these powerful sedatives since 2022 from a Seoul university hospital without the required in-person consultations. Furthermore, he is accused of using a "proxy prescription" by having his manager and others pick up the medications on his behalf, a practice strictly forbidden due to the high risk of dependence associated with these drugs. This serious legal matter, which led police to seize PSY's medical records from the hospital, has sent shockwaves through the entertainment world as his career hangs in the balance. Agency response In a recent statement, P Nation , PSY's agency, publicly defended the artist, calling his use of a third party to collect this medication a "Clear Mistake" and an "Oversight", and they also confirmed that PSY suffers from a chronic sleep disorder and has been taking doctor-prescribed sleeping pills under medical supervision and within the proper dosage. The agency clarified that while a third party did pick up the medication, there was no "proxy prescribing", and the matter is currently under police investigation. Do fans agree? This hot K-pop scandal has created an intense debate among his fans, with some expressing disappointment in his actions, while others are trying to defend PSY, citing that the star was under the pressure of fame. The Dojeon team agrees with this opinion that the highs and lows of fame can create some psychological and sleeping problems. Imagine performing on stage in-front of thousands of people, and the next day sitting at home alone, waiting for the next big hit to come? The details are murky, but one thing is clear: the man who once made the world dance is now fighting to save his reputation. The music has stopped, and the world is watching, waiting to see if the king of K-pop will survive this dramatic fall from grace. Do you think the police investigation is a waste of time? Or worth while? Leave a comment below. #PSYSleepScandal #KpopDrugProbe #GangnamStyleCrisis #PSYUnderFire #KpopScandal #ProxyPrescription
