  • 5 K-Drama Actors Who Have Excelled at Playing Similar Roles More Than Once

Hwang In Youp and Lee Min Ho in a still from True Beauty and Boys Over Flowers (Images via tvN and KBS2). Some K-drama actors have mastered certain roles so perfectly that it’s hard to imagine anyone else playing them. There are times when an actor ends up portraying a similar type of character more than once—roles that become so iconic they shape the actor’s identity and career. Over time, these performances become a defining part of their filmography, with fans instantly associating them with that particular persona. We spotlight five actors who have consistently excelled at playing a similar role multiple times. 1. Yoo Yeon Seok – Hospital Playlist, Dr. Romantic  (Doctor); Warm and Cozy, Tastefully Your s (Chef) The official poster for Hospital Playlist (Image via tvN). There’s no denying that Yoo Yeon Seok is an immensely talented actor with a career spanning nearly two decades. While he has played a wide range of characters, long-time K-drama fans often associate him with his standout doctor roles in Dr. Romantic  and Hospital Playlist . Though both characters are doctors, they couldn't be more different—Dr. Kang Dong Joo in Dr. Romantic  is intense, angry, and rebellious, while Dr. Ahn Jeong Won in Hospital Playlist  is gentle, warm, and deeply compassionate. Yoo Yeon Seok portrayed both with remarkable nuance and conviction. He’s also taken on the role of a chef more than once. In Warm and Cozy , he charmed viewers as the sweet and laid-back Baek Gun Woo. More recently, in a cameo for Tastefully Yours , he surprised fans by playing Jeon Min, a cunning, grey-shaded character in a chef’s coat. Whether he’s saving lives or serving food, Yoo Yeon Seok proves time and again that he's a master of his craft. 2. Nam Joo Hyuk – Who Are You: School 2015 and Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo  (Swimmer) The official poster for Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo (Image via MBC). Nam Joo Hyuk might as well qualify for the Olympics at this point! The rising star took on the role of a swimmer in two back-to-back dramas and brought a distinct charm to each character. In Who Are You: School 2015 , he played Han Yi An—the cool, composed heartthrob of the school, reserved but emotionally intense. In contrast, his portrayal of Jung Joon Hyung in Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo  showed off his playful, outgoing side — still a campus heartthrob, but full of energy, mischief, and warmth. Nam Joo Hyuk delivered both roles with charisma and nuance, proving he’s more than just a pretty face—he’s got real acting chops too. 3. Hwang In Youp – 18 Again, True Beauty, Why Her, Family by Choice  (Student) The official poster for True Beauty (Image via tvN). It's hard to believe that Hwang In Youp is 34 years old, given his youthful appearance and frequent portrayal of high school students in his dramas. To his credit, he brings nuance to these roles—whether as a troubled bully, a charming heartthrob pining for his ex-best friend’s girl, a lovestruck teen enamored with an older woman, or a student falling for his close friend. While his performances have been consistently strong, some fans are eager to see him break free from the "handsome schoolboy" mold and take on more diverse and mature roles. 4. Lee Min Ho – Boys Over Flowers and The Heirs  (Rich, Arrogant Boy) The official poster for The Heirs (Image via SBS). Lee Min Ho has often been typecast as the quintessential rich, arrogant boy who falls for a feisty, less privileged girl—a trope he notably portrayed in Boys Over Flowers  and The Heirs . Interestingly, these two dramas, despite the repetitive character arc, are among the biggest hits of his career and played a significant role in catapulting him to global stardom. While the "rich, arrogant boy" image may have defined the early phase of his career, Lee Min Ho has since expanded his repertoire, taking on a wider range of roles that highlight his growth and versatility as an actor. 5. Ji Chang Wook – Healer and The K2  (Secret Agent/Action Hero) The official poster for Healer (Image via KBS2). If you’re looking for a good-looking action hero with secret agent vibes, Ji Chang Wook is the perfect choice. With strong acting, good looks, and a fit physique, he excels in roles where he undertakes challenging missions and protects the woman he loves. In Healer , he plays a mysterious night courier deliveryman with a hidden identity, involved in secret missions. In The K2 , Ji Chang Wook plays a former soldier turned bodyguard, entangled in political intrigue and a quest for personal vengeance, who needs a superhero when you've got him? It’s worth noting that many contemporary female actors in K-dramas have taken on a wider variety of roles and shown more range in their careers. This may be partly influenced by the fact that a significant number of K-dramas are written by female screenwriters, who often create more complex and diverse roles for women. While this doesn’t mean male actors lack versatility, it does highlight an interesting dynamic in how roles are written and cast in the K-drama industry. All the K-dramas mentioned above are available on popular streaming platforms like Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, and Viki. Which K-drama actor do you think nailed their role? Let us know in the comments below! #LeeMinHo #TheHeirs #BoysOverFlowers #YooYeonSeok #DrRomantic #HospitalPlaylist #WarmandCozy #TastefullyYours #JiChangWook #Healer #TheK2 #HwangInYoup #18Again, #TrueBeauty, #WhyHer, #FamilybyChoice #NamJooHyuk #WeightliftingFairyKimBokJoo #WhoAreYouSchool2015 #Kdramas

  • Former NCT Member Moon Taeil Faces Seven Years in Prison Following Rape Conviction

Moon Taeil, the former NCT Member, receives a seven year prison sentence after admitting to rape charges! We explain in detail the former K-pop star's case and how fans have been expressing their disappointment. Image: Former NCT member Taeil’s - Photo: Kbiz.com Taeil and the K-pop industry? The K-pop world has been shaken up in recent months, Moon Taeil  who used to be a member of NCT a popular Korean group, admitted to some very serious charges this week at one of his many court hearings. The Dojeon team have previously written about the awful allegations of the actions of the former K-pop star. As a result in the star pleading guilty to court charges, this means that he is now facing prison time, and it is estimated that because of his horrendous crimes, he can face up to seven years in prison. Image: Former NCT member Taeil’s - Photo: Kbiz.com SM Entertainment's Move You might remember back in August 2024 when NCT's agency,  SM Entertainment, announced that Taeil was leaving the group. At the time, they only said he was involved in a "criminal case related to a sexual offense."  The situation was clearly dire, and by October last year, SM Entertainment completely ended his contract as the investigation continued. SM took every step within their power to walk away from the former NCT member carefully, not to tarnish the group's reputation and their own. Now, with Taeil's admission in court, the legal process is moving forward, and the outcome will be a prison sentence. Courtroom Showdown In what could be seen by many as a chilling confession by the former NCT member, three separate individual cases, the former star committed a shocking and disgusting crime raping a heavily intoxicated Chinese woman in Seoul on June 13, 2024 . According reports, Taeil helped to escort the Chinese woman out of a bar and placed her in a taxi with one of the co-defendants, identified as Lee, sending her to Lee’s home. Taeil and another friend, Hong, followed in a separate vehicle. The alleged assault occurred at Lee’s residence. According to prosecutors who are working on the case, this was not a spur-of-the-moment act by Taeil and his friends. Investigators found text messages where Taeil and his friends discussed the victim being a foreigner (Chinese) and even plotted to mislead police by manipulating GPS data. It reportedly took two months for the authorities to track the defendants using CCTV footage. In court it was laid bare and what was painted as a grim picture of the sheer vulnerability that was exploited. As of now, the justice lies with the prosecutors who are currently demanding a seven-year prison sentence for each perpetrator. All eyes turn to July 10, 2025 , when the final, agonizing chapter of this dark saga will unfold in the sentencing hearing. What sentence if any do you think is enough for this horrendous crime? NCTzen's Reaction K-pop fans NCTzens have had a whole host of reactions, ranging from shock, anger, and all-around disappointment. Many fans have distanced themselves and called for justice, since many of the band's fans are women themselves. Some fans have even gone as far as destroying Taeil's once-prized merchandise, which includes photocards and albums, and even signed photos! Do you think the proposed seven-year sentence is enough? Or is it too long? Have your say and let the Dojeon team know your thoughts in the comments! #MoonTaeil #KpopNews #JusticeServed #SexualAssaultAwareness #KoreanEntertainment

  • Coffee Su Industry: Dojeon's Summer Café You Won't BELIEVE Why This Seoul Coffee Shop is Taking Over the Coffee Scene!

Spotlight summer brews and beyond! Join Dojeon team member, Lewis, as he uncovers why this specialty café is taking over Seoul's summer coffee scene! Image: Coffee Su Industry Seoul - Photo: Lewis Hooper Step back in time Coffee Su Industry , located right in the heart of Seoul (a one-minute walk from Exit 1 of Euljiro 3-ga Station), offers a step back in time, serving a classy selection of coffees, specialty drinks, and timeless charm that reminds us of a Soviet 1980s coffee shop. The café is located down a small alleyway, which I walked past first of all, until I looped around and realized I needed to walk down the alley. The alley is impressive, as it is filled with murals full of artwork, which add to the charm and character of the café. As I stepped inside, the warm, rich aroma of freshly brewing coffee and the friendly smiles welcomed me. Once, I had selected my drink (a cinnamon americano), beyond the counter were beautifully displayed coffee filters, which were each displayed with their origin, classic ceramic cups, and stunning artwork, which made me feel so good inside. Image: Coffee Su Industry Seoul - Photo: Lewis Hooper Image: Coffee Su Industry Seoul - Photo: Lewis Hooper Image: Coffee Su Industry Seoul - Photo: Lewis Hooper The narrow staircase inside the café transformed me, as if I were stepping back into a different period with each step I took, and the café offered different seating zones. I opted to sit across the alley on the second floor, and I was happy with my decision! The seating was a classic selection of vintage chairs and comfy sofas, and each piece felt as if it had its own story to tell, even down to the upholstered in floral patterns that faded with time. I chose a cozy corner booth, its banquette seat covered in a rich, burgundy leather that creaked softly as I settled in. The dim, warm light from a nearby antique lamp cast long shadows, highlighting the subtle imperfections and character of the furniture. Which, for me, made the visit even more worthwhile, as compared to some of the other cafes and chain coffee shops in the area, this place felt just perfect. Not only was it off the beaten track, but it also had charm and stories to tell in its down-to-earth way. Image: Coffee Su Industry Seoul - Photo: Lewis Hooper Image: Coffee Su Industry Seoul - Photo: Lewis Hooper The artwork and the vintage furniture worked well together, and it felt like the collections were carefully curated, leading to a very relaxing atmosphere for me to enjoy my coffee! The prices in the café were also very reasonable, and similar to those of a coffee shop chain. I paid 7,000 KRW (USD 5.10) for my iced cinnamon americano, and it was worth every penny! Coffee Su Industry has earned Dojeon's café of the month for June , simply through its collection of unique storytelling artwork and furniture, which transports you to the past, leading to an all-around great experience in the heart of Seoul. Finally, its thoughtful blend of nostalgic charm and subtle contemporary touches offers a refreshing and authentic café experience that stands out from more generic establishments. • "Second Shot at Love" at Midpoint: When Rom-Com Clashes with Social Themes

Sooyoung's new rom-com, Second Shot at Love, hits all hearts! But is this drama hit too close to home? We explore why this top-rated romantic comedy has been able to move past a faltering start. Image: Second Shot At Love Choi Soo-young - Photo: Kdrama.com Second Shot at Love Tops Ratings with Humor and Heart Since the release of this dramatic and comedic show, Second Shot At Love has scored an impressive peak viewership rating of 5.7% and averaged 4.3% in Seoul. Nationwide, the first episode recorded 3.4% on paid platforms, according to Nielsen Korea, ranking No. 1 among cable and general programming channels during its time slot. Will this be a drama to break ranks? Plot We have previously written about how Han Geum Joo, labelled an alcoholic despite her self-perception as a "reasonable drinker", decides to quit alcohol. Her life takes a turn when she reunites with her first love, Seo Eui Joon, who has left his prestigious medical position in Seoul to lead a rural health center. Their contrasting views on alcohol set the stage for a compelling exploration of love and personal growth. So, how has the show played out since its release, and what are K-drama fans saying? Image: Sooyoung Transforms Into A Mechanic - Photo: tvN *Spoilers! Episode 1 & 2: Lost in translation After a strong start highlighting Geum Ju's struggle with drinking, Second Shot at Love unfortunately slipped into familiar K-drama territory: misunderstandings, miscommunication, and mayhem. Much like recent rom-coms, the episode leaves viewers in the dark about crucial past events and keeps the leads from communicating honestly. This vague, frustrating approach sidelines the drama's sensitive themes of alcoholism and tense family dynamics, which truly deserve a more delicate treatment. While Second Shot at Love could  be ground-breaking, we fear its ambitious start might be overshadowed by a tumultuous "will-they-won't-they" romance. It's a shame, given how Episode 1 exceeded expectations, but perhaps next week will ease our worries about the show's direction. Episode 3 & 4: New Mysteries and fast-paced revelations Seon Wook's crush revealed, the infamous wedding, the Hans heading to rehab, and Geum Ju's confession. The wedding, in particular, felt like the perfect push for her to finally quit drinking. Hyeon Ju developed from a tag-along to a character with her backstory and feelings about the whole ordeal. We've seen glimpses of her tough life as a single mother, so her taking responsibility for Geum Ju as the older sister makes perfect sense. Surprisingly, Ui Joon's storyline took a dark turn! We're now dealing with an alleged murder, him hiding from his old workplace, and a persistent stranger hunting him down. How will this shocking plot unfold any further in later episodes? Image: Second Shot At Love Choi Sooyoung and Gong Myung - Photo: tvN Episode 5: Hans' Hard Road to Sobriety The Hans are finally facing their struggles head-on, embarking on a sincere, yet realistic, journey to sobriety. We see their struggle, with Hyun Ju even faltering in her first attempt, which was a moment that expanded her independent storyline while also deepening her budding romance with Sun Wook. Meanwhile, Ui Joon's shady past is rapidly coming to light. Between murder rumors, hostile colleagues, and a mysterious break-in, tensions are high. Will they continue into the final episodes? Episode 6: Gwang Ok steals the show Alright, so this episode really did bring out conflict and resolutions, and it also gave the secondary characters a chance to shine! Ui Joon finally confessed to Geum Ju, and Sun Wook confessed to Hyun Ju only to later being put in his place by his sister. The stakes of the show also became higher as the white truck of doom amped up the classic K-drama vibes, and it was Gwang Ok who stole this episode. The drama in a classic u=but clever way put the limelight onto the kindness that Gwang Ok showed the nagging villagers. Episode 7: Support, Surprises and Romance Geum Ju finally realized that she no longer has to suffer alone, after her once nagging circle decides to rally around her and provide support, once they learned the truth about her ex. This scene proved to be a powerful moment among the characters and for the show. Although one romance seemed to die out, another one started to blossom, with Geum Ju and Ui Joon, who are now officially dating. With the Hans' alcoholism taking a backseat, the drama is now setting up several mini-conflicts to spice up the latter half. While a relapse plot twist might be looming before the finale, it looks like Chief Kim and Ui Joon's father are ready to deliver some compelling drama in the meantime! Episode 8: Major frustrations Keeping things more wholesome, and focusing only on the charming daily lives of the Bochun's residents, we saw Geum Ju and Ui Joon being adorable together, meanwhile Hyun Ju finally started to prioritize her own life over others, including that of Sun Wook's feelings! That was not all, as the drama did sidestep slightly, which caused frustration among fans, as it felt like a non episode.  Nurse Baek's sudden "evil" turn felt more like a well-meaning attempt to keep Ui Joon close, potentially leading for a dramatic finale. Episode 9: The Han Family Heartache Did anyone else get whiplash after watching Gong Myung ? Episode nine, did take a pivot away from Ui Joon after focusing more on the Hans, especially Gang Ok and Hyeon Ju. Episode nine saw Gwang Ok being unable to catch a break, as he faced a diagnosis which is often linked to heavy drinking. Is this the plot twist that we were expecting? It feet like a cruel twist for Geum Ju, who's genuinely trying to overcome her own struggles. The drama however, did showcase the resolve with Sun Wook, that we were were all hoping for, though the question is, has she been sacrificing her own feelings? What are your mid season best moments? • The Ultimate List: 6 Lee Min Ho Dramas You Must Watch! [Birthday Special!]

Birthday special: 6 Lee Min Ho dramas to watch (Image via Instagram/@actorleeminho). Happy Birthday, Lee Min Ho ! The charismatic and talented Hallyu superstar turns 38 today. The handsome actor has long been a torchbearer of the global Hallyu wave and is one of the most recognized and celebrated Korean actors. Lee Min Ho is such a massive superstar that, more often than not, fans overlook the fact that he is, in fact, a good actor who has done some interesting work for over a decade. Some hits, some misses—but the fact remains that, in his own way, Lee Min Ho has always pushed the envelope. We list six Lee Min Ho dramas that define his inimitable legacy! When the Stars Gossip   (2025) The official poster for When The Stars Gossip (Image via tvN). In this space-themed romantic comedy, Lee Min Ho takes on the role of Gong Ryong, a skilled and dependable obstetrician-gynaecologist who finds himself on an unexpected journey to a space station as a civilian tourist. There, he crosses paths with Eve ( Gong Hyo Jin ), the fierce and no-nonsense commander-in-chief. Against all odds—and in the most unlikely of settings—the two spark an unconventional romance in outer space. While the drama didn’t achieve high ratings, fans appreciated Lee Min Ho’s sincere performance and praised his willingness to experiment with a quirky, genre-blending role. His portrayal of Gong Ryong brought warmth, humour, and heartfelt emotion to a bold and unusual premise. Pachinko  (2022–present) The official poster for Pachinko (Image via Apple TV+) Based on Min Jin Lee’s acclaimed novel, Pachinko  is a sweeping, emotional saga that spans generations, centring on the life of Sunja, portrayed by both Kim Min Ha and Youn Yuh Jung in her later years. Lee Min Ho takes on one of his most complex roles to date as Koh Hansu, a wealthy, arrogant Zainichi Korean merchant living in Osaka, Japan. His affair with Sunja results in the birth of their son, Noa, setting off a chain of events that shape the family’s future. What begins as a seemingly villainous character slowly reveals deeper emotional layers, and Lee Min Ho brings a striking depth to Hansu, balancing charm, menace, and vulnerability. It's a transformative, career-defining performance that proves his range goes far beyond the romantic leads he’s best known for. 3. The King: Eternal Monarch  (2020) The official poster for The King: Eternal Monarch (Image via SBS). Marking Lee Min Ho’s highly anticipated comeback after his military service—and his second collaboration with acclaimed screenwriter Kim Eun Sook— The King: Eternal Monarch  is a celebration of Lee Min Ho the superstar, in all his grandeur. He plays Lee Gon, an orphaned emperor ruling a modern-day monarchy, who discovers a parallel universe and sets out to find the woman who once saved him: detective Jeong Tae Eul, played by Kim Go Eun . While the drama faced its share of criticism for pacing and plot complexity, Lee Min Ho grounded the high-concept fantasy with a heartfelt, sincere performance. He infused the regal Lee Gon with quiet vulnerability, making the character feel real beneath all the royal polish. The emotionally charged scene where he rescues Tae Eul, cradling her in his arms as he weeps, remains one of his most unforgettable moments, etched in the memories of fans who saw the raw emotion behind the crown. 4. City Hunter  (2011) The official poster for City Hunter (Image via SBS). With City Hunter , Lee Min Ho proved he could break free from the “rich, arrogant boy” typecast that had defined his earlier roles. Based on the popular Japanese manga of the same name, this high-octane drama gave him the perfect opportunity to showcase his range—and he delivered in style. Lee Min Ho plays Lee Yoon Sung (also known as Poochai), a skilled operative trained to infiltrate the Blue House with the ultimate goal of avenging his father’s death. But as he begins to expose the corruption behind those responsible, he realizes the truth is more complicated than he imagined—and the path to justice is far from straightforward. Slick, agile, and emotionally resonant, Lee Min Ho shines as an action hero with depth. His commanding presence, physical agility, and vulnerability made City Hunter  a breakout hit. Here’s hoping he takes on another gripping action-thriller with a touch of romance soon. 5. Personal Taste  (2010) The poster for Personal Taste (Image via MBC). After the explosive success of Boys Over Flowers , Lee Min Ho took a refreshing turn with this charming romantic comedy alongside fellow Hallyu star Son Ye Jin . In Personal Taste , he plays Jeon Jin Ho, a meticulous architect struggling to keep his firm afloat. A twist of fate leads him to cross paths with Park Kae In ( Son Ye Jin ), a quirky, clumsy furniture designer nursing a broken heart. Though complete opposites at first, the two gradually grow closer, and Jin Ho finds himself unexpectedly drawn to her warmth and sincerity. Personal Taste  is a sweet, feel-good drama with a strong emotional core. Lee Min Ho brings a soft charm and vulnerability to his “green flag” character, offering a more understated performance that highlights his versatility beyond high-drama roles. 6. Boys Over Flowers  (2009) The poster of Boys Over Flowers (Image via KBS) There’s no denying that some of Lee Min Ho’s biggest career-defining roles involve playing rich, complicated male leads—and Boys Over Flowers  is where it all began. Based on the popular Japanese manga Hana Yori Dango , the drama catapulted Lee Min Ho to instant stardom with his portrayal of Gu Jun Pyo, the hot-headed and arrogant leader of the elite F4, and heir to the powerful Shinhwa Group, South Korea’s largest conglomerate. Gu Jun Pyo is rude, entitled, and treats his classmates poorly—until he meets Geum Jan Di (played by Ku Hye Sun ), a tough, outspoken scholarship student who refuses to be intimidated. Her presence turns his world upside down. What makes the character memorable is the undeniable charm Lee Min Ho brings to the role. Despite Gu Jun Pyo’s flaws, you never truly hate him—his over-the-top antics amuse you. The drama not only showcased Lee Min Ho’s strong screen presence but also his natural comedic timing and ability to infuse humor into even the most exaggerated moments. Boys Over Flowers  remains iconic, a cultural phenomenon that solidified Lee Min Ho’s place in the K-drama hall of fame. All of Lee Min Ho’s dramas are available on streaming platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, and Apple TV+. Which is your favorite Lee Min Ho drama?
