The Ultimate Guide to Dongmyu Flea Market: Where Vintage Dreams and Street Food Collide!

The Birthplace of Haraboji (Grandpa)& Halmoni (Grandma) Style
This market is not just a place to go to buy really good second-hand clothes, but it is also a market where you can learn about some of Seoul's history. Dongmyu Market is the official home of "Haraboji (Grandpa) Style", where oversized blazers and high-waisted slacks are reclaimed as high-fashion staples. Now, it is the unique intersection where Gen Z influencers and local elders hunt through the same $2 wool vests for that perfect "ironic" street-style look. This is one of the best places in Korea to snap up a bargain and enjoy a day out at the same time!
Treasures Beyond the Wardrobe
While the clothes are famous here at this market, and our writer Lewis Hooper can vouch for that, you can also score rare 80s K-pop vinyl, vintage film cameras, and even antiques here! If you are interested in some gems from the past, then rotary phones are also available for just a few dollars. It’s a literal "everything market" where you might find a designer Burberry trench coat right next to a stack of vintage movie posters and retro toys. For our writer Lewis Hooper, he purchased an amazing high-quality ski coat for $10, along with some brand new walking shoes for a fraction of the price of high street retailers.
Dongmyo Flea Market has around 600 stalls spread across the surrounding streets. The number varies slightly depending on the day and the weather. For us here at Dojeon Media, the best time to visit the market is during the weekend, as it's when most of the city visits, creating a wonderful atmosphere and vibe. Also, during weekends, you can, at times, catch live music as well!
Pop Culture Influence
This market has also featured on popular Korean TV shows, including spots with idols like G-Dragon. Thanks to this high-profile media attention, it has brought a massive influx of attention from the younger Gen Z generation. Thanks to this priceless exposure, it has helped change the market from an 'old persons shopping district' to a 'cool, must have spot for vintage fashion'.
Social Media
TikTok and Instagram have also exploded with people posting content from this market. Thanks to the countless vintage goods that this market offers, Dongmyo is the hot potato of markets right now in Korea. If you are a creator who loves to discover something new and interesting and enjoys showing off to your friends, then head to Dongmyo for an unforgettable experience!
How to Get There
The easiest way to reach Dongmyo Flea Market is by taking the subway to Dongmyo Station. Use Line 1 or Line 6, and exit from Exit 3 or Exit 4, where the market begins right outside. From Seoul Station, you can easily take a taxi, which will take around 30 minutes depending on the time of day, although the market area is also walkable from Sindang Station on Line 2 and Line 6. From there, it takes about 10 minutes on foot to reach the main stalls.
The Dojeon team loves this market, as it is easily accessible from most areas of Seoul, and it has that perfect local feeling. Nearby are a variety of cafes and restaurants to enjoy, as well as a river walk!
