For a long time now, Hongdae has been a popular destination for locals and tourists alike when they visit Seoul. This article will focus on why Hongdae should be on your MUST-do list for places to visit in Seoul this year! What can I say, Hongdae is a cultural and culinary destination that is not to be missed on your trip to Seoul. Many Korean celebrities can also be spotted here occasionally, and the area has also been featured in many travel series, dramas, and music videos ! Hongdae has so much going for it, not only is it located in central Seoul, it has a variety of clubs, bars, restaurants, and street performances, not to mention the thrift stores and photoshops! Due to its foreigner-friendly atmosphere, Hongdae has not only attracted many international visitors, but also locals. I have visited the area countless times, especially when I lived in Seoul. For me, it is one of the places where you can get Western food, and there is a great Mexican restaurant, though if you are after something more local, then KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) and beer will be around on most streets! In the afternoon on weekends, and during the evenings, you will also notice lots of buskers and street performers playing to crowds, which for me makes the atmosphere feel alive! Located nearby are some of the major universities in Seoul, and as a result it offers a younger demographic. Regardless of your taste in music or food, there will be a place for you to go. I recently discovered a rooftop bar that boasted a large cocktail menu and offered a fantastic view of the city. If you are like me, and you like people watching, then you will be in for a treat! At the end of the night, it is obligatory to visit one of the areas many photo studios. For me this concept is strange as these days everybody has a smart phone. however the fun loving feel good concept is a great factor, and I think it's great to try on all of the different costumes and accessories and not to mention the price is cheap as well. There are many different studios in the area which all offer something slightly different. How to get here: Hongik Univ. Station (line 2, exit 9). With the end of year celebrations and awards just around the corner, K-pop stars are set to take center stage for this year's Billboard Music Awards . He highlight all the K-pop stars that will for surely steal the show! Stray Kids , Jungkook and BTS are just some of the names that are nominated for an award this year at the Billboard Music Awards. June 13 was not a happy day for BLACKPINK fans as Jennie apologized on her Instagram story for not being able to complete the group's recent Melbourne concert. Many fans reported seeing her as tired, with no energy, and looking "sickly" in many of her recent performances. We break down why we think Jennie's apology was outrageous. In a heartfelt message, Jennie wrote: "Melbourne Blinks, I'm so sorry I wasn't able to finish the show on Sunday. I'm doing my best to recover atm. Fans voiced their concerns over the sudden exit off stage during the June 11 concert which caused the three remaining members to finish the act. As a true professional, we feel that it was very kind of her to apologize to her fans for not showing up while many patiently waited and paid for their tickets. We also feel that she gave a great explanation to explain why she had to miss the performances, due to her lack of good health. Fans understood her reasons and appreciated her apology. What we feel is outrageous is the fact that K-pop idols are put in a position where their health is in jeopardy . With such a grueling concert schedule, it seems that Jennie has not had time to recover in between shows and traveling long distances. Today's topic is about BLACKPINK members who have traveled to many countries during their recent "Born Pink" world tour! BLACKPINK recently held their concert in Saudi Arabia on January 20th, 2023, it's their first time performing in an Arab country. For the first time, the Saudi Arabia government specially decorated its towers and areas with pink for BLACKPINK in preparation for the BLACKPINK concert! It is how the city of Riyadh welcomes BLACKPINK. Fans were concerned about what BLACKPINK would wear as Saudi Arabia is a very conservative country and the group's usual concert outfits are quite revealing. A lot of fans loved the fact that BLACKPINK changed some of their outfits to suit Riyadh culture and fans praised them for it! You might know the BTS hit song " Mikrokosmos" , but you might not know the man who wrote it. We dive into the musical genius behind K-pop's global superstar group BTS' hit songs! Up until now, you have probably not heard the name " Marcus McCoan ". However, this UK musician has written songs that have been featured on two BTS albums and both have reached number one in the UK charts! When I heard this, I was very surprised as Korea prides itself on K-pop and everything related to K-culture, so why were these songs chosen? This all started with a call on New Year's Eve when Marcus was invited to a meeting with a manager for the band BTS. Marcus was told that he had only a 48-hour deadline to finish a batch of songs which would then get listened to by the BTS management, which totaled around 10 songs. This was a big task as creating music is often done over several months, if not years, so to hear this I was very shocked! Later, the songs were submitted, and one from the batch was chosen — and not the one he had thought most likely. For me, I usually find that this is the case, when you look at other artists, the more successful songs are often the ones with the less work that has gone into the production, for example, "Angles" by UK artist Robbie Williams. BTS management also debated using a second track from the demos that were sent over to them a couple of months before, which was also accepted pending the production finish. If I had a call like this I would be in total shock and to have a worldwide known band such as BTS request two of my songs which would reach over 50 million people I think it's a fantastic opportunity! I also think that it is great that a UK songwriter was chosen to write two tracks for BTS, as it shows that the K-pop industry is open to collaborating and using an international influence, which of course will help them become more successful overseas and be known in a global market, but this also gives opportunities to musicians overseas to gain recognition in Korea. Now his co-writing and production work is on both of BTS' best-selling albums titled "Map of the Soul: Persona", and "Map of the Soul: 7" which sold 3.69 million and 5 million copies respectively. In addition to his signwriting expertise for the band, his vocals also appear on one of the songs, "Mikrokosmos", which has almost 50 million hits on YouTube, which is an outstanding number!
