- How MrBeast Accidentally Entered One of K-Pop’s Biggest Controversies Involving NewJeans and HYBE
MrBeast responded after NewJeans fans pleaded to help save the group. (Credits: X) In early January 2026, something strangely hilarious yet also quite serious erupted online. It involved one of the biggest K-pop acts in the world, one of the most famous YouTubers on the planet, and a fandom that took fan activism to a completely new level. The Real Drama: NewJeans and Danielle’s Contract Crisis Since their 2022 debut, NewJeans has become one of the biggest K-pop girl groups globally. But late 2025 brought a major shock. Their label, ADOR , which is under the HYBE umbrella, officially terminated member Danielle Marsh’s contract and filed a damages lawsuit reportedly worth tens of millions of dollars. This came after a long and complicated contract dispute between NewJeans and ADOR that had been unfolding since 2024. The situation sparked huge public discussion about fairness, pressure, and the business side of K-pop. NewJeans addressing their lawsuit against ADOR during the press conference (Credits: Chung Sung-Jun/Getty Images) A 2025 court ruling had already stated that NewJeans must honor their contracts through 2029. While some members reportedly returned to ADOR, Danielle’s contract termination became one of the most dramatic turning points, leaving her facing legal battles of her own. For fans, known as "Bunnies" or "Tokkies" , this was devastating. To many, NewJeans is a five-member group. Danielle’s removal felt personal and heartbreaking. How a Meme Turned Into a Movement What pushed this situation from serious entertainment news into viral global chaos was the way the fandom responded. NewJeans fans began flooding MrBeast’s social media accounts with requests like: “Please buy HYBE and save NewJeans.” “Bring Danielle back.” “MrBeast, help NewJeans.” Thousands of comments poured in across Instagram, TikTok, and X. Hashtags trended worldwide. What started as a lighthearted meme quickly became a fan campaign that the whole internet noticed. Fans chose MrBeast because he is wealthy, influential, and known for dramatic, philanthropy-driven actions. In other words, he felt like the kind of person who might actually do something extreme. NewJeans (Credits: ADOR) MrBeast Responds, and the Internet Goes Wild The situation became even more surreal when MrBeast actually responded. On January 6, 2026, he tweeted: “What do I need to do?”— MrBeast (@MrBeast) Then, on a livestream with fellow creator JasonTheWeen , he said he was honestly trying to understand the situation: “Are they for sale?” “Is it a raising awareness thing?” “I keep getting asked to help but I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do.” The comments quickly went viral, but not everyone was impressed . Many Korean netizens called it embarrassing or cringe-worthy , saying fans had dragged an unrelated Western celebrity into a complex K-pop legal battle His reaction went viral instantly. However, not everyone found it funny. Many Korean netizens criticized the situation, saying it was embarrassing for fans to drag an unrelated American YouTuber into a complex entertainment industry legal conflict. Could MrBeast Realistically Save NewJeans? Short answer: No. Here is why. First, you cannot simply “buy” a K-pop group. Groups are not independent companies. They are under exclusive contracts with agencies. Even buying the management company would not automatically change contract terms or restore terminated agreements. Second, HYBE is a multibillion-dollar entertainment conglomerate. Even a very wealthy YouTuber would realistically struggle to acquire it, and buying a publicly traded company involves complex legal and financial processes far beyond making a single transaction. Third, the only real impact here is awareness. Fans successfully turned a corporate contract dispute into a global social conversation. People who had never heard of NewJeans are suddenly googling the situation because of MrBeast’s involvement. And that alone shows the power of fandom. Ador and Hybe Label Logo (Credits: HYBE) What This Saga Reveals About Internet Culture This entire situation highlights the way modern fandom, social media, and meme culture now blend. Fans today are organized, loud, global, and deeply invested. They are not just discussing music but actively trying to influence what happens to the artists they love. It also shows how serious issues can collide with humor and viral energy online. A legal contract dispute became a worldwide meme, and yet beneath the jokes is a very real concern about artist treatment and the pressures of the entertainment system. Final Thoughts On the surface, NewJeans fans asking MrBeast to buy HYBE sounds like a bizarre internet joke. And in many ways, it is. But behind the viral comments lies a passionate fandom trying to protect a group they care about. Whether this saga ends through negotiations, court rulings, or new developments, one thing is clear. The future of NewJeans is being closely watched by fans worldwide, and this story is far from over. Was involving MrBeast a clever way to gain global attention, or did it cross a line in a serious industry dispute? What do you think? #NewJeans #MrBeast #JasonTheWeen

- What Does Christmas Mean When It Isn’t Necessarily Religious? Egypt vs. South Korea
Why do some cities shine with thousands of lights in December while others seem almost quiet? Why do people everywhere want to gather, decorate, and celebrate at the end of the year? Every December, the Republic of Korea offers a clear visual and cultural answer to these questions. Major cities, particularly Seoul, transform into luminous landscapes. Giant Christmas trees, garlands, and carefully decorated shop windows create a warm atmosphere that unmistakably signals the end of the year. In many streets, cafés, shops, restaurants, and even apartment buildings take part in the celebrations, adding lights and festive decorations. This collective effort turns everyday spaces into places of shared seasonal joy. ☃️ Christmas in Korea © Manar Aly Christmas, celebrated on December 25 , is a national public holiday in Korea . However, for a large part of the population, it is not primarily a religious celebration. Instead, it is experienced as a social, emotional, and festive occasion. In Korean society, Christmas is often associated with romance and love . Couples frequently go out for dinner, exchange gifts, and take photos in front of illuminated streets, creating an atmosphere that sometimes resembles Valentine’s Day more than a traditional religious holiday. Families also celebrate Christmas, though usually in a simple way. There is no specific traditional dish associated with the holiday; the most common symbol remains the Christmas light, neatly decorated and extremely popular during this period. While churches organize religious services for Christian communities, most people mainly enjoy the festive atmosphere, winter markets, and public events that take place throughout the cities. The New Year also holds an important place in Korea. January 1st is a public holiday marked by countdowns and social gatherings. Nevertheless, the most culturally significant celebration remains Seollal , the Lunar New Year , which takes place later and is deeply centered on family traditions and ancestral customs. 🎄 A View from Egypt © Manar Aly In Egypt , things are different. The country is mostly Muslim, and Christians, mainly Copts, also celebrate important holidays. December 25 is not a national holiday and is often seen as a regular end-of-year or shopping season. Still, in many city streets, cafés, shops, study spaces, and even apartment buildings put up decorations. While preparing for exams, these small lights and decorations served as a reminder that the year was coming to a close. ❄️ Festivity Between Work and Exams © Manar Aly – Dojeon Media Life does not slow down. There is no holiday break: exams continue, work goes on, and projects move forward. Yet, even without time off, the period feels special. Decorations, preparations, and the sense of a new year coming give it meaning. Coptic Christians celebrate Christmas on January 7 , following their religious calendar, in a spiritual and family-centered manner. For most Egyptians, New Year’s Eve on December 31 is the main celebration, marked by outings, concerts, and gatherings without religious focus. What makes Christmas in Egypt particularly fascinating, especially when compared to Korea, is that almost every year, something unexpected and often humorous appears, a phenomenon that feels uniquely Egyptian. These moments quickly attract attention and become part of the season’s collective memory. This year, one object stood out: a Santa Claus doll that, when pressed, says “ Ramadan Karim .” The contrast surprised many people and quickly turned the toy into a popular talking point. Photos and videos circulated widely, and the doll became one of the most talked-about end-of-year details in 2025 in Egypt. While Christmas in Korea follows familiar and well-organized patterns, romantic lights, couples ' outings, and consistent traditions, Egypt’s end-of-year atmosphere often includes spontaneous, playful surprises. These moments, though lighthearted, reflect how global symbols like Santa Claus are reinterpreted locally, blending cultures and religions in spontaneous and often amusing ways. 🎅 A Cross-Cultural Perspective © Manar Aly (by: PicsArt) Experiences in multicultural schools, like French-language schools in Egypt, show that Christmas can go beyond religion. It becomes a social and cultural event, with decorations, performances, songs, and gift exchanges, a time for togetherness rather than faith. Korea’s celebration works similarly. Christmas is social, symbolic, and inclusive. While Christmas remains religious for Egyptian Christians, the end of the year is celebrated by everyone through New Year's festivities. In Korea, Christmas has become a bright, emotional, and cultural highlight, alongside traditional celebrations like Seollal . Why do lights, decorations, and gatherings feel so important? Perhaps because they bring people together, mark the end of a chapter, and give hope for what comes next. Whether in Seoul’ s sparkling streets or Egypt’s decorated corners, the season is about connection, community, and joy. So, what does Christmas mean to you? Is it a religious holiday, a cultural event, or simply a moment to celebrate the end of the year? And how does your city or country show that the year is ending and a new one is beginning? #Egypt #crossculture #SouthKorea #HappyHolidays
- Seoul in January 2026: The Ultimate Guide to Surviving & Thriving in the K-Winter
If you’re planning to touch down in the K-capital, Seoul, this January, here is everything you need to know to stay warm, trendy, and ahead of the crowds. We have tech, food, and everything in between to make your stay an enjoyable one! Image: Seoul in January - Photo: https://gocity.com Smart Tech & Thermal Hacks The weather in January is cold; in fact, it is one of the coldest months to travel to Korea. Staying warm is a must, and thanks to high-tech, heavy coats are slowly becoming a thing of the past, although they are needed for the time being. The "Climate-Controlled" layer is a must-have! It not only lets you skip the bulk and opt for ultra-thin, graphene-lined thermals or USB-rechargeable heated vests, but it is now the gold standard for long walks through Gyeongbokgung or other tourist destinations in Seoul and throughout Korea. App-Based Warmth is also possible, thanks to the 'Seoul Smart' app , which helps you locate the nearest "Warm Benches" and heated bus shelters—they are literal lifesavers during a sudden cold snap, and you will also notice the vast amount of indoor bus stops, which are a lifesaver from the wind. The Skin Barrier Protocol is also needed to keep your skin hydrated, and the "dry-cold" is no joke. Visit an Olive Young branch immediately for a " Cica-barrier " cream in 2026 to keep your skin feeling great, as skincare is your first line of defense against the biting wind. The Original Winter Favorites Seoul street food is one of the best ways to keep warm this winter! In 2026, these classic staples are still lifesavers and a must-try during your trip to Seoul! The "Boiling" Dinner: Nothing beats a stone pot of Kimchi Jjigae or Sundubu Jjigae . Served bubbling and spicy, these dishes provide immediate internal warmth that no jacket can match. Lewis Hooper from the Dojeon team finds these meals to be not only warming but also very affordable, while remaining classic at the same time. Street-Side Comfort: On the corner of most streets, you’ll still find vendors selling Hotteok (sweet sugar pancakes) and Odeng (fish cake skewers in broth). In 2026, grabbing a cup of hot Odeng broth while roaming the streets is still the ultimate local hack for fighting the chill, and this is also a super local experience and way of life! 2026 Winter Bucket List places to visit 2026 is all about the latest trends, and café hopping is one of them! Seoul has thousands of cafes, and most of them offer a different experience. This winter, head to Bukchon Hanok Village to find a tea house with a courtyard view. Seeing the traditional black-tiled roofs covered in white snow while sipping hot Yuja-cha (citron tea) is the peak 2026 Seoul aesthetic, and a classic which our writer Lewis Hooper loves! The indoor cultural side of Seoul is also a must on your trip! If the "burning cold" becomes too much, dive into Seoul’s world-class museums. The Seoul Museum of Art and the Seoul War Museum offer a perfect blend of modern digital exhibits and deep history, keeping you inspired and—most importantly—indoors, and at the same time allowing you to connect to the more historic side of Korea! Most of the museums are also free to enter, so it's a win-win! Final Thoughts January in Seoul is crisp, blue-skied, and undeniably beautiful and one of the cheapest times to travel to Korea. As long as you respect the cold and embrace the layers, you’ll find a side of the city that is quiet, romantic, and deeply authentic and less crowded compared to other times of the year! Seoul has so much to see and do during this time of year, and if you have not yet booked a ticket, we recommend that you do now! - What Happens to NewJeans After Danielle’s Departure? A Closer Look at the Group’s Future
Fans are questioning what the future of NewJeans looks like after Danielle leaves (Image Credit: ADOR) The K-pop world was shaken when Danielle’s contract with ADOR was terminated, confirming that she would no longer be continuing her activities as a member of NewJeans . Since their debut in 2022, NewJeans has been one of the most influential girl groups of their generation, so the impact of losing a founding member is understandably significant. While news outlets everywhere are covering the event, we take a different angle. What does this mean for the future of NewJeans? Will the group continue as four members, welcome someone new, or eventually disband? Let’s look at the possibilities and the reasons behind each one. What Danielle Meant to NewJeans Danielle was known for her warm stage presence, expressive vocals, English fluency, and bright personality. She often acted as a natural bridge during international promotions and variety appearances. Her tone fit especially well in NewJeans’ soft, layered vocal color. So, her absence is not just numerical. It changes the chemistry, sound balance, and group dynamic that fans grew attached to. NewJeans (Credits: ADOR) Three Reasons NewJeans Might Continue Successfully 1. The Remaining Members Still Have Strong Momentum NewJeans remains one of the most recognizable K-pop groups globally. Minji , Hanni , Haerin , and Hyein continue to have incredible fan support, brand presence, and streaming power. The foundation they built together does not disappear overnight. 2. Groups Have Recovered from Lineup Changes Before K-pop history shows that line-up losses do not always end a group. Some even grow stronger with time as members adjust, roles shift, and fans embrace a new chapter. With the right music direction and teamwork, NewJeans could continue their story as four. 3. Their Signature Sound Is Bigger Than One Member While Danielle was a key part of the vocal blend, NewJeans’ sound is defined by minimalist production, youthful energy, and understated performance style. That musical concept can remain intact even as the lineup changes. NewJeans (Credits: ADOR) Three Reasons NewJeans Could Struggle or Even Disband 1. Trust and Stability Have Been Shaken Legal disputes, contract terminations , and public statements can place emotional strain on artists. Even if music continues, the process behind the scenes may not feel the same. 2. The Original Five-Member Identity Has Shifted NewJeans debuted with a clear image built around five distinct personalities. Losing one of them inevitably changes how fans and the public perceive the group’s identity. 3. Individual Careers May Grow When groups experience instability, members sometimes focus more on solo work, acting, modelling, or independent projects. If those paths expand, the group’s center of gravity can naturally weaken. NewJeans (Credits: ADOR) Will ADOR Add a New Member to NewJeans? As of now, there has been no official confirmation about adding a new member to replace Danielle. Still, the idea is being actively discussed among fans and analysts. One possible direction is that NewJeans continues as a four-member group, which is the most natural route. This avoids disrupting the group’s chemistry further while allowing the remaining members to take on slightly larger roles musically and performance-wise. Another possibility is that ADOR may eventually introduce a new trainee, although this would be a very delicate decision. Any new member would need to match the group’s tone, style, and personality, and fan acceptance would play a big factor. There is also the chance that NewJeans may feature collaborators rather than permanent new members, keeping the brand dynamic without changing the core team. Danielle (Credits: ADOR) How the Members’ Roles May Evolve If the group continues as four, roles may organically shift. Minji may take on an even stronger leadership and vocal anchor position. Hanni could hold more center time in performances and public appearances. Haerin may receive more musical focus, while Hyein can grow into additional stage and vocal responsibilities as she matures artistically. These adjustments happen naturally in K-pop when line-ups change and can sometimes lead to creative growth. Could NewJeans Eventually Disband? It is a possibility that fans are quietly discussing. Whether a group continues often depends on internal trust, long-term contracts, company direction, and the well-being of the members. Disbandment does not usually happen overnight. Instead, it can follow a period of reduced team activities and expanded individual careers. Right now, the future remains open. What is clear is that the members and the company will have to make careful decisions that protect careers, artistry, and emotional stability. Danielle (Credits: ADOR) Final Thoughts: A New Chapter for NewJeans Danielle’s departure marks a significant turning point for NewJeans. The group may move forward as four, welcome someone new in time, or gradually shift toward new paths. Whatever happens next, their impact on K-pop is already firmly established, and the members deserve space to grow and decide what feels right for them. Fans around the world will be watching closely, not just for updates, but for the music and stories that may still lie ahead. If NewJeans continues as four members or adds a new one, what do you think their future will look like? Share your predictions below. #NewJeansControversy #Kpopcontroversy #DanielleMarsh
- Charting the Future: Which Rookie Group Will Dominate K-Pop in 2026?
K-pop is set to have a new reign! We cover the top six rookie groups ready to take the crown in 2026! Photo from ahof_official/Instagram A new year means new music! The Dojeon team is excited about the prospect of new drama, music, and catchy melodies this year! We have compiled a short list of possible rookie groups that may or may not dominate the K-pop charts in 2026. Let's take a look! CORTIS (BigHit Music) This new group is a self-produced boy band, which is clearly leading the way when it comes to the "anarchic" pop-punk trend, with high international streaming numbers and a global audience. Their creative autonomy and guitar-driven sound make them the primary contenders for global dominance in 2026. Do you think 2026 could see the rise of a new K-boyband? IDID (Starship Entertainment) IDID was formed through one of Korea's notorious survival shows, and since then, they have achieved "million-seller" status with their debut album. Thanks to their success, they are expected to sweep domestic digital charts next year. Could their high-end and high-energy performance style and strong public recognition be to thank for this? KiiiKiii (Starship Entertainment) KiiiKiii is capturing the Gen Z market by blending 90s nostalgia with a chic, easy-listening city-pop aesthetic. With a new year incoming, KiiKii's blend of old and new could really take over the charts, as well as social media platforms, and elevate them as one of the go-to groups for trendy melodic hits in 2026. The Dojeon team certainly hope so! ALPHA DRIVE ONE (Survival Group) As the product of Boys II Planet , this group is about to enter 2026 with a massive, pre-built global fandom ready to dominate physical sales. Thanks to their success already, it is rumored that they will be the main rivals for every major Rookie of the Year award. Do you think this could be true? We certainly hope so! ALPHA DRIVE ONE (Credits: WAKEONE) HUNTR/X (Virtual/Global Group) This group has made it to the list of groups to watch out for next year, mainly due to the fact of their success and history when it comes to topping the Billboard Hot 100. This just goes to prove that virtual idols are a permanent fixture in the industry. Their crossover appeal into film and gaming ensures they will remain a dominant cultural force throughout 2026. Could there be new global hits from this virtual group? SMTR26 (SM Entertainment) Slated for a late 2025 or early 2026 debut, depending on how you look at it, this group is expected to uphold SM's reputation for experimental sounds and top-tier visuals in 2026. They are the most anticipated traditional "big label" launch, likely focusing on a sophisticated, high-concept brand. Could SMTR26 bring a new generation of fans to SM's already packed portfolio? Final Thoughts 2026 really is looking like it is set to become the new year in the K-pop music industry! The Dojeon team are really looking forward to watching how some of these rookie groups perform in what is an oversaturated market! Which rookie group do you think will take over K-pop in 2026?
