- Why "Genie, Make a Wish" Became the Worst-Rated K-Drama of 2025 With Just 5.5 on IMDb: Explained!
Genie, Make a Wish starring Kim Woo Bin and Bae Suzy (Credits: Netflix) Genie, Make a Wish , arrived with huge excitement in 2025. Fans were thrilled to see Kim Woo-bin and Bae Suzy back in a new fantasy romance after their chemistry in Uncontrollably Fond . The big names, fancy visuals, and a mythic story promised a memorable show. Instead, the drama has a rating of about 5.5 on IMDb. The reaction was fast and fierce. Viewers complained about the plot, editing, tone, and a controversy surrounding religious content. The Chuseok release choice made things worse by letting criticism spread all at once. We delve into what led to this highly anticipated drama's sudden decline in popularity. Genie, Make a Wish Plot Summary Genie, Make a Wish follows Iblis, a supernatural being who wakes after ages and sees humanity as flawed. He meets Ka Young, played by Bae Suzy , and an odd bond forms between them. She gets wishes, and he watches how people use them. The show jumps between the present and ancient times, and it mixes fantasy, romance, and comedy. It tries to tell a big story about desire, guilt, and change. But the many time jumps and tone shifts made the plot hard to follow for many viewers. Where to Watch Genie, Make a Wish, and the Chuseok Drop Netflix released all 13 episodes of Genie, Make a Wish at once during Chuseok. Chuseok is a seven-day holiday when many people have time to binge-watch shows, and it is the longest holiday for many Koreans this year. The makers likely hoped the holiday would bring big viewership. Instead, because every episode was available from day one, weak moments were exposed immediately. Fans and critics had everything to react to right away. That made negative reviews spread faster. Still from Genie, Make a Wish (Credits: Netflix) Genie, Make a Wish Review: What Fans Are Complaining About A top complaint is how the drama uses religious and mythic themes. Some viewers felt that certain religious ideas and texts were used in a way that showed little respect for real beliefs. This upset many people, especially Muslim viewers, and led to strong backlash online. Another issue is the story flow. The show jumps from modern scenes to a very old backstory without clear transitions. Viewers felt baffled about when events happened and why a scene mattered. This choppy editing makes the drama hard to enjoy. Fans also say the tone is uneven. One moment, the show is playful; the next, it is dark. The mix of genres often feels shaky. Jokes sometimes do not land. Heavy scenes do not always have the emotional weight they need. Still from Genie, Make a Wish (Credits: Netflix) Genie, Make a Wish Review: What Failed Creatively The direction and editing often feel rushed or uneven. Scenes cut quickly to new places or new time periods. That creates confusion rather than mystery. The script has weak points. Dialogue at times feels flat. Some jokes are forced. The emotional beats do not connect clearly. For a show mixing fantasy and romance, the balance is off. The cast is talented but underused. Kim Woo-bin gives strong moments, but his Genie changes tone from cruel to childlike in a short time. That inconsistency makes the character feel unclear. Bae Suzy looks great and acts well. But some fans said her role felt familiar and not fully written. Many supporting roles are thin and stay close to stereotypes. Still from Genie, Make a Wish (Credits: Netflix) Genie, Make a Wish : What We Liked About It Even with the flaws, the show has positives. The main cast gave scenes life. Their acting saved many weak moments. Cameos from well-known stars created buzz. Reports mentioned surprise appearances that delighted fans and added small highlights. These moments gave viewers something to talk about. The visual design is strong. Costumes, makeup, and settings are eye-catching. Bae Suzy’s fashion got special praise online. Her looks became a talking point and one of the show’s few steady wins. Genie, Make a Wish Cameos That Surprised Fans Genie, Make a Wish included several memorable cameos that added excitement to the series. The drama featured some big cameo names. Song Hye-kyo appears as Jinniya, an ex-girlfriend of Iblis with past connections to Ka-young. Daniel Henney makes a curious cameo as a dog who wants to become human, interacting with Genie. Kim Ji-hoon also appears as a well-dressed, loyal character connected to the cameo dog. These cameos raised expectations, but many felt they were underused or just splashy additions, not enough to fix the weak script or confusing plot. Why the Chuseok Binge Drop Might Have Hurt Genie, Make a Wish Dropping all episodes during a big holiday means there is no slow build. If the first episodes are shaky, viewers can see all the problem areas at once. With episodes available immediately, social media was filled with negative takes, and many people dropped the show fast. If the episodes had been spread out, the team might have had time to manage feedback, or viewers might have given it more patience as the plot developed. The all-at-once release removed that chance. Our Thoughts on Genie, Make a Wish Genie, Make a Wish had everything it needed to be a hit. Instead, a mix of controversy, confusing pacing, and uneven tone made many viewers unhappy. The cast and visual style show what the drama could have been. But the script and editing did not match that promise. For curious viewers, it is still worth a watch for the performances and the cameos. For others, the flaws are too big and the 5.5 rating feels understandable. What do you think about Genie, Make a Wish ? Did the Chuseok binge drop make the reaction worse? Tell us what you think in the comments. #GenieMakeaWish #fantasydrama #flop

The first few minutes of Ms. Incognito are enough to pull you in. Jeon Yeo-been plays Kim Yeong-ran with strength and emotion. Her expressions show pain, fear, and courage all at once. Watching her live under a false identity as Bu Se-mi feels tense yet touching. The story takes a familiar idea, a fake marriage, but turns it into something much deeper. BABYMONSTER – WE GO UP BABYMONSTER is back with a second mini album We Go Up (Credits: YG Entertainment/HELLOKPOP) Also dropping a new album on October 10 is none other than BABYMONSTER! This group will return with their second mini album called WE GO UP. This new album will feature an inspired hip-hop sound to help the group lean into a more powerful stance for their come back, as during their first album release they were still YG's new band, with the hope of replacing BLACKPINK. The question is, will their new album help them finally cement their place in the industry? TWS – Play Hard TWS will release their fourth mini album, Play Hard, on October 13, 2025 (Credits: Pledis/Weverse) Another favorite is TWS, which will release its fourth mini album on October 13 . Their new album will be called Play Hard , which we are sure most of the listeners will be able to relate too! This band has previously teased about pre-releasing their single " Head Shoulders Knees Toes" on September 22, which gave fans a taste of their evolving style. The Dojeon team agrees that their new style has taken some getting used to, though as the band evolves, so does the style, right? Hearts2Hearts – FOCUS HEARTS2HEARTS will be releasing their first mini album, FOCUS, on October 20, 2025. (HEARTS2HEARTS X account) October 20 will see Hearts2Hearts drop their first mini album FOCUS. Hearts2Hearts is still new within the K-pop industry, and so they are often viewed as a rookie group, and not taken as seriously as other groups. However, their former release "Pretty Please" did make a strong impact within the K-pop scene, and this band is not to be messed with, as we are sure that with each release their music and stage presence will only get better. WEi - Wonderland WEi makes their comeback on October 29 with their eight mini album, Wonderland (Credits: Oui Entertainment) Making a comeback on October 29, with their eighth mini album Wonderland is WEi. Since the departure of former member Kim Junseo, and Kim Yo-han's return to the band, this will be the first release of the newly arranged five member group. The concept of the album is said to be a heart felt gift to their fans, showcasing emotional lyrics and a cohesive narrative. To celebrate, they will hold a showcase concert the same day, giving fans a first live experience of the new songs. Which music are you looking forward to hearing the most this October? - Prosecutors in Trouble: South Korea Abolishes Its Prosecution Service
Prosecutors Face Uncertainty in South Korea’s Legal Reform South Korea is preparing for a significant overhaul of its criminal justice system. On September 26, 2025 , the National Assembly approved a historic bill to abolish the current Prosecution Service, which has been in existence for 78 years. This reform is set to take effect in October 2026 and could change how crimes are investigated and prosecuted. But what does this mean for prosecutors, and how will it affect the justice system? Why South Korea is Making This Change Right now, prosecutors in South Korea have both investigative and prosecutorial powers. They can start investigations and decide who goes to court. Critics argue this gives them too much control and even room for political influence. The reform, introduced under President Lee Jae Myung’s administration, aims to split these jobs. Investigating crimes and prosecuting people will now be done by different agencies, reducing abuse of power and increasing transparency South Korea's Constitutional Court (Credits: Koreaboo) What Will Replace the Prosecution Service The old Prosecution Service won’t exist, but prosecution itself isn’t going away. Instead, there will be two new agencies: Prosecution Office – This office will handle all court cases and decide on indictments. Serious Crimes Investigation Agency – This agency will investigate big crimes like corruption and economic offences. The idea is to make the justice system fairer and more organized. How Prosecutors and Lawyers Will Be Affected Prosecutors won’t lose their jobs, but their roles will change a lot. Many will move to one of the new agencies. Some of their old powers, like leading investigations, will be taken away. For lawyers, this change might affect how cases are handled. Evidence gathering will now be mostly done by the investigation agency, so lawyers may need new strategies in court. South Korean Court (Credits: Pinterest) What This Means for Justice in South Korea Supporters believe the reform could strengthen fairness, specialization, and accountability, while critics warn of potential politicization and confusion during the transition. The new system's success will depend on implementation and oversight, and the next few years will be critical to see if the goals of the reform are achieved. South Korea’s legal shake-up raises a big question for everyone: Will this change make the justice system fairer, or will it create new challenges for prosecutors and citizens? If you were a prosecutor in South Korea, would you feel uncertain about your future after this reform? Let us know your thoughts in the comments! #LawandReform #SouthKoreaNews #politicalsystem
