According to "The Times UK" South Korea has been voted the most exciting destination for travelers to visit in 2024! We take you through a cultural, entertainment, and foodie adventure that you won't want to miss! Read on for all the exciting details!
Aiming to attract 30 million foreign tourists by 2027, the country also launched the Visit Korea Year 2024 campaign, which features various cultural offerings, new tourist incentives (an increase in tax free shopping, visa waivers and new working visas).
If the increase in the Korean wave in recent years has yet to convince you to explore South Korea, perhaps some major international events happening in the country this year will.
Endurance sports enthusiasts may want to also watch or participate in the Seoul Marathon taking place on March 17. The race has been given the highest certification of platinum from World Athletic and is designated by the International Association of Athletics Federation as a World Athletics Heritage event, how exciting would it be to be apart of this incredible historic event!?
If sport is not your cup of tea, then how about exploring Seoul's diverse fashion trends?
Seoul Fashion Week, which is normally held in March and October every year, will be held a month earlier this year in February and September to "gain a competitive edge over the Big 4 fashion weeks...by holding the event earlier than them," according to the official Seoul Metropolitan Government website.
Move over New York, London, Milan and Paris — Seoul is looking to take center stage on the international fashion circuit. Having established its space in the music, television and film industries over several years, South Korea is also hoping to leave its mark on the global style map!
Now, if like me, when exploring a new city you want to hit the local markets ad shopping areas, then Myeongdong is Korea's famous shopping and cusine district located in the heart of Seoul. Shoppers can enjoy local shopping and dining experiences at the pedestrian-friendly (/car-free) zone in Myeongdong.
Here, there are many local & international brands and department stores which line the streets and alleys, selling everything from cosmetics, clothes, shoes to accessories, and of course street food! Which will get your taste buds tingling for the array of restaurants and coffee shops located in the area.
One other common sight in Myeongdong is probably the money changers. Most of them offer very competitive exchange rates and are commission-free. Passport is required for all currency exchange service. With the new increase in tax free shopping allowance, now is the perfect time to get your wallet out and hit the shops!
Incase you have not heard yet, until December 31, 2024, the South Korean government will temporarily exempt nationals from 22 countries/regions, including Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, and the United States (including Guam), from the need to obtain a Korean Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA) for entry. This will make travelling to Korea easier! So why not take advantage and experience what Korea has to offer this year.

So regardless of your interests and budget, 2024 is definitely the year to visit Korea and make memories!
