NewJeans' Parents Speak Out Amid Dispute with Hybe and Ador

The parents of NewJeans members — Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein — have launched a temporary Instagram account to share their perspectives amid the ongoing conflict with HYBE and its subsidiary, ADOR. They expressed frustration over the lack of an official communication channel, citing difficulties in conveying facts through traditional media due to misrepresentation and distortion.

The first letter posted on the newly created Instagram account by NewJeans parents' is as follows:

Hello.
We are the parents of Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein. This account has been temporarily created out of necessity to represent our position in the dispute with HYBE.
Since there was no official channel to communicate our stance, we have made multiple efforts to convey the facts through direct interviews with various media outlets or by reaching out to journalists we were acquainted with. While we are grateful that some media outlets reported our words accurately, they were very few. We also attempted to distribute our statement through an agency, but headlines were often written in a misleading manner, making it extremely difficult to ensure our position was conveyed without distortion.
While the members' voices are either misquoted in a negative context or published only in a limited number of articles, HYBE and ADOR continue to distribute hundreds of articles daily through various media outlets, including internet-based partisan news sites. These articles often contain false information or only represent HYBE and ADOR's position, bypassing the standard journalistic process of fact-checking and the right to respond.
[Regrettably, ahead of the injunction lawsuit, we have received reports that HYBE and ADOR are once again circulating unverified rumors to multiple journalists to spread false narratives against the members. This is why we decided to create this account.]
We understand that many may be tired of this prolonged dispute, and for that, we sincerely apologize. However, this account will primarily serve to communicate matters that the members themselves cannot directly address.
As their only remaining representatives, we are in urgent need of a channel to correct misinformation and share the truth. We ask for your understanding in this matter.

The dispute began in mid-2024 when HYBE accused ADOR’s then-CEO, Min Hee Jin, of attempting a “hostile takeover,” which led to her removal. In response, NewJeans demanded Min’s reinstatement, emphasizing her importance to the group. However, HYBE refused, further escalating tensions.

In November 2024, NewJeans announced their departure from ADOR, citing mistreatment and contract breaches. They accused the agency of orchestrating behind-the-scenes efforts to “harass and attack” them, including secret meetings with their parents aimed at creating division within the group.

Despite the controversy, NewJeans continued their professional commitments, participating in music and fashion events. Notably, member Hanni gave an emotional testimony before South Korea’s National Assembly, exposing the workplace harassment and bullying they experienced under HYBE’s management.

The parent’s decision to create an Instagram account reflects their determination to combat misinformation and share the truth on behalf of their daughters. They emphasized the necessity of this channel to address concerns the members cannot openly discuss, seeking to provide clarity amid the ongoing dispute.

Fan reactions have been divided. On Reddit, some supporters applaud the parents for taking a stand, viewing it as a protective measure for the members. Others, however, worry that making public statements could complicate legal proceedings and believe the matter should be handled privately.

As the situation continues to unfold, NewJeans faces a difficult road ahead. Their commitment to their careers amid personal and professional turmoil highlights their resilience. Their parents' establishment of the Instagram account adds a new layer to the ongoing dispute, reinforcing the need for accurate representation and artist protection.

The outcome remains uncertain, with legal battles and public opinion playing significant roles. The K-pop industry and global fans closely watch, recognizing the broader impact on artist-agency relationships and performer rights in the entertainment sector.

What are your thoughts on NewJeans’ parents taking this public stance? Do you think it will help resolve the dispute or complicate matters further?
