Seoul authorities have announced that they are going to deploy sniffer dogs on returning Olympians, to detect bed bugs! Is this over the top or necessary? We cover the details! South Korea has deployed a bedbug sniffer dog at Incheon airport in an attempt to reduce the nationwide risk of bedbugs entering Korea undetected. Now, this may seem over the top, however last year (2023) France after the COVID-19 pandemic, faced another pandemic which was bedbugs primarily in the French capital Paris, where the 2024 Pairs Olympics were held, attracting thousands of overseas visitors. The bedbug sniffer dogs will be inspecting passengers who enter the country including athletes, officials, and fans when they return from the Olympics in Paris. Leading the campaign is a two-year-old beagle named Ceco, who pest control company Cesco said is the first and so far only canine trained in the country to detect the odor of pheromones, the chemicals released by bedbugs, I think that this is so clever. I mean being an owner of three very different dogs and one of them being a Beagle I know how good their noes and sense of smell. Ceco is capable of sweeping a standard hotel room in under two minutes, company official Kim Min S said, "How insane is that?!" The pest control company has teamed up with South Korea’s ministries of security and transportation, as well as the disease control and prevention agency, and is working with airlines and Incheon Airport to screen travelers on arrival. I agree that this is a smart move by the Korean Government in order to try and stop any outbreak from entering the country, especially from the origin country, and I also think that this is a much more cost effective way to try and stop a potential pandemic from happening. Mystic Story's first boy group ARrC officially debuted in Seoul on August 19, 2024! We cover everything you need to know about this exciting new boy group from their debut performance in Seoul! ARrC held a showcase performance for their debut EP, AR^C , at the Blue Square Mastercard Hall in Seoul on the 19th of August 2024. The performance allowed the band members to express their excitement and showcase their skills and talents to new fans during their summer debut in the Korean capital. A great thing about ARrC, is that they stand out as Mystic Story's first-ever boy group, featuring a diverse line-up with members from Korea, Japan, Vietnam, and Brazil. Even before their debut, ARrC had already gained attention through their pre-debut single "Dummy" and various reality shows. During the showcase, member Choi Han introduced the title track as the beginning of ARrC’s unique storytelling style, while leader Hyunmin highlighted the song’s impactful beat drop and catchy "wee-oo-wee" chorus. For me having listened to it, I think it was very good and the style and concept is unique and very trendy for 2024 Foreign members of the group credited K-pop's influence as the driving force behind their decision to pursue a career in Korea. Rioto mentioned that his sister’s admiration for BTS inspired him to dream of becoming an idol, while Kien shared that he had been a fan of K-pop since childhood, citing BTS and EXO as his inspirations. I think that the overall image of the new K-pop band will be attractive to the younger audiences, but like other boy bands out there for me there are far too many members. It appears that no individual skill is shown but rather it is just a numbers game. The group however did well, acknowledging their multinational makeup, ARrC took the opportunity to greet their global fans in various languages, showcasing their strength in connecting with a worldwide audience. Is having multilingual members the main goal of the record label to attract a global audience? For me, I think that this year has seen a big focus on new K-pop bands taking center stage, however, I am concerned that the K-pop industry seems to be more like a manufacturing plant throwing out various artists and bands. The saying "Quality over quantity" comes to mind. Of course, I am not doubting that the members are not talented, just there seems to be a current oversaturation of bands debuting from the K-music industry at the moment. What do you think? The Black Label is on the move! Rumors circulating its new upcoming girl group, MEOVV, has been hitting social media! One of the most important holidays in South Korea has caused a stir in the entertainment industry! We tackle who was involved and why it was "such a big deal" to one of the most popular K-pop groups! Famous K-pop star Jaemin from NCT is currently facing harsh criticism for greeting fans during the Korean holiday from Japan on National Liberation Day (Thursday, August 15, 2024), and no apology, unlike Yeonjun ( TXT ) and Felix ( Stray Kids ) who recently experienced a similar problem. On August 15 KST, NCT 's Jaemin greeted fans on Weverse with a message in Japanese, reading, "Just arrived,"  after arriving in Tokyo, Japan for NCT Dream's scheduled performance at "Summer Sonic 2024". However, not long afterward, the post was deleted. Many fans suspected that the post was deleted to prevent issues that might arise from Jaemin's use of Japanese on Korea's National Liberation Day. Eventually, word of Jaemin's recent Weverse posts made their way to various online communities, where the idol faced criticism for his use of the Japanese language on a historically significant day in Korean history.  Earlier, idols like TOMORROW x TOGETHER's Yeonjun and Stray Kids' Felix faced similar criticism on this day, prompting both to apologize for their careless actions.  Let's take a look at some of the comments: "The only one who didn't say a word apologizing for his actions? How full of sh*t. This traitor." "JYP and HYBE both apologized, but SM refuses to budge. Now we know which company is the most pro-Japanese." "Okay but he's born and raised in Korea?? With the recent release of Disney+'s new K-drama The Tyrant , fans have asked, "Why is the show so dark." We break down why! Read on to find out more about this exciting new series! On August 12, 2024, K-drama actors  Kim Seon Ho, Cha Seung Won, Kim Kang Woo, and Jo Yoon Soo showcased their talents in a new Disney+  series about the race to find a stolen bioweapon TheTyrant . When I heard the genre of the new series, I was excited . I love to watch thriller/horror-style shows as they are more engaging and entertaining. Let's take a look at the teaser trailer! As you can see in the official trailer, the teasers for the series promised an action-packed thriller that focuses on a dark subject matter, but The Tyrant for some people has been literally  too dark  to watch at times. Here the fans are not actually talking about the plot and story line being to dark to engage with, but more the fact that some of the scenes were literally filmed in the dark, which made it hard to make out what was happening. Now, I am all about creating a mood, however having watched it for myself I totally agree. During some of the action scenes or tense scenes it was very hard to see what was going on, which unfortunately spoiled the mood for me. In addition to this, like most modern dramas, when the series started it dived right into a storyline, which I had no idea what was happening as I had no background information, so on top of not really being able to see what was going on, I had to try and piece together clues. This led me to think that perhaps there had been some big budget cuts or even a power cut while filming. With most of the scenes being too dark to watch, will the overall ratings and success be a flop? Protest trucks demanding SUGA's departure from BTS begin making rounds around the HYBE building ! Why is this happening? Let's find out why! BTS' SUGA has come under fire recently as I have written in my other article. This is for using a public scooter after drinking and driving it around Yongsan Station in central Seoul before being arrested. Of course, driving under the influence is a criminal offence and the law is in place for a reason. Regardless of social hierarchy, career or fame the punishment should be the same, but calling for him to be removed from the global sensational band which helped to put Korea on the map is a step to far in my opinion. Would an office worker have a campaign to be removed from their job for getting a DUI, or a convenience store worker? The answer is probably no, so why should the BTS star face this backlash? The protest trucks contained messages demanding that SUGA, who was previously booked by police on August 7 for operating an electric scooter while intoxicated , leave BTS.  Of course the signs on the protest truck kept changing and became more obscene as the day went on. I do think people need better things to do with their time, and I really cannot see such a big company such as HYBE taking much notice of these protests, as it also appears that they are having other legal battles right now. The company emphasized that such discussions are unfounded and reiterated their commitment to maintaining the group as it is. To address the ongoing discord among fans, HYBE stated that they plan to apologize and make concerted efforts to mend the rift within the fandom. I really do think that the star should be punished like an ordinary citizen would, and that is totally fair he is no different, other than he is famous and rich. This does remind me of the time that BTS were due to join the military and there was a debate about whether or not the stars should be exempt like National team members are. Though, being so high profile this is of course going to gain the star more negative media attention, regardless if he thought he could get away with driving the scooter under the influence or not. Social media giant TikTok has announced that it forecasts spending on Korean culture to hit US $143 billion by 2030 . Like many of you, I have been using TikTok in recent years, whether to simply scroll through content, or upload my own, and throughout the past year of using it, I have seen countless global trends from dance, to singing to even acting, and with TikTok's success globally it has recently announced that due to global spending on Korean cultural products, it is forecast to nearly double to US$143 billion by 2030, according to new research released by TikTok and analytics company Kantar. The soaring popularity of so-called K-content has been amplified by social platforms, where users have voiced their appreciation of Korean drama, pop music , cuisine, and cosmetics . TikTok, which initially rocketed in popularity with short clips of young people dancing to popular songs, has become a gathering place for K-pop fans online. In recent times, that has expanded to include more of Korean culture and traditions. For me, I have tried to endorse Korean culture in my content, and I often search destinations online and on Social Media before travelling to them to try and find out what it might be like. I believe that this increase in investment will allow more creators to become successful, and it will also help to include the less touristy areas of Korea to attract more visitors domestically and internationally, which can help their tourism industry. However, we have seen before where social media stars focus their content on smaller towns throughout the world where it can see an increase in tourists, but are they ready to accommodate them? Although the Korean Government has also announced that it plans to focus on attracting more foreign workers and tourists in 2024 will it be able to sustain the influx of people coming in the future?
