Seoul has just unveiled new plans for a floating city along the Han River by 2030! Here is what you need to know! A thing of the future? A wild dream? No, it will soon be a reality. Seoul has recently announced that it will transform into a "RiverCity" by 2030. This will allow the Han River to turn itself into a more urban area, hosting floating hotels, offices, restaurants, bars and so much more as the world's first floating city. For now, the full details have not been released, however, what we do know is that from 2026 a scenery pool observation and some leisure facilities will open to the public. As a result of the floating city, South Korea will aim to draw more talent from the global pool and provide jobs and opportunities. Following up on the "Great Han River Project" announced last March, the Seoul Metropolitan Government hopes to better utilize the Han River by constructing floating offices, hotels, and creating a cable water skiing facility by 2030! Right now, bidding for private developers is in the talks, and construction is said to begin in 2026. The city plans on building a floating food zone that can accommodate 2,400 people while opening a cable water skiing facility over the river. The monsoon brings heavy rainfall which can last for several weeks, making it essential for travelers to be prepared for the wet weather. Although it may seem inconvenient, the rainy season offers a unique atmosphere and opportunities to explore indoor attractions and try delicious comfort food . By understanding the rainy season, packing appropriately, and taking necessary precautions, travelers can make the most of their trip to Korea during this time! Where to go during the rainy season? For indoor attractions during the rainy season, shopping centers and markets are also popular destinations during the rainy season. Korea is known for its vibrant shopping scene, with countless malls, department stores, and street markets to explore. Some popular comfort food recommendations include: 1. Jjigae: Jjigae is a Korean stew made with various ingredients such as tofu, kimchi, pork, or seafood. It is often served piping hot and is perfect for warming up on a rainy day. 2. Samgyetang: Samgyetang is a traditional Korean chicken soup made with a whole young chicken stuffed with glutinous rice, ginseng, and other medicinal herbs. It is believed to have health benefits and is commonly consumed during the summer rainy season. 3. Hotteok: Hotteok is a sweet Korean pancake filled with brown sugar, cinnamon, and nuts. If you have not heard already, solo artist Bang Yedam’s now-deleted apology raises more questions about his involvement in a controversial video. We've got the details! Read on to find out more! Actor Lee Seo Han's apologies have stirred up opinions among is fans, and the sexual video filmed on the morning of May 2, which was "accidently posted" has now been deleted. The video showed what appeared to be a man and woman engaging in sexual activity on a sofa and appeared to have been filmed at Bang Yedam's studio. Although the video was deleted immediately, there have been speculation by the online community whether it was filmed with the consent of the individuals involved. Lee Seo Han later issued a brief statement confirmed the incident was filmed at Bang Yedam's studio which he apologized to both the singer and his fans. He published the below apology: (Lee Seo Han) “My explanation, which was short out of fear and feeling apologetic, seems to have become controversial, so I am gathering the courage to post again. My close friends and I like to visit Yedam’s studio and listen to music, watch movies, and drink together. Yesterday, five of us gathered and drank, and one drunk friend and Yedam went home after midnight. The remaining friends and I had a bit more to drink and accidentally posted a staged video that’s common these days to my public account instead of my private one. It is not an illegally filmed video of any kind. I sincerely apologize for my immature behavior as someone who dreams of becoming an actor. I apologize to those who were uncomfortable with the video and to the fans who support me. I will act carefully in the future. I apologize once again.” With the apology all good and well, for something that in my opinion may have been harmless fun. It has however raised many questions about his response to the video and how the situation was handled. Recently I had friends visit me from the UK, and they were keen to explore the cultural aspects of Korea, which are not on the normal tourist trail, so I took them to Gyeongju (You can check out my other article about Gyeongju ). Of course, they were blown away by the simplicity and beauty that Gyeongju had to offer. During our trip, we noticed a new building and were curious to check it out. To our surprise, it was a step back in time VR experience, which was very interactive and informative about the area, featuring past to present events and scenery. ' Silgam Wolseong Moat is a MUST DO on your trip to Gyeongju. There were two rooms at the attraction, one larger and one slightly smaller room. They both had impressive interactive features, with the focus on its history and seasons. Here I really could experience the four seasons in a short time which felt magical! With every step I took, something would move or change on the floor, and if I went over to the wall, something would move too! It felt as if I was in control. The best thing? It was free! Now, if this attraction was in Europe, then of course it would come with a hefty price tag along with it! The Korean hotspots of Busan , Daejeon , and Sokcho were all featured in series 4 of the popular BBC series Race Across the World . If you have not watched this show yet, then you absolutely should! This British TV show is now in its fourth season, and sees contestants travel around the world from a starting destination to an end destination with checkpoints along the way! Sounds easy? Well, contestants are not allowed to take any flights and have to travel by rail, road, or sea, with the amount of money that it would cost to travel by air. In the latest episode, the teams had to reach their second checkpoint in the seaside city of Sokcho in South Korea, and they all had to balance speed and potential work opportunities along the way. With their previous checkpoint in Nara, Japan . The largest port city, Busan was, of course, featured in this episode as contestants traveled from Fukuoka, Japan to Busan, Korea and the center of Korea, Daejeon, was also featured! In Busan, one group of contestants picked up work at the world-famous Jagalchi Fish Market . You can see the feature of Korea around 29 minutes into the episode on BBC or through YouTube. Coming from the UK, I found it extremely interesting to see like-minded reactions to South Korea and Korean culture, especially with the fish market and cultural differences between the two countries. Seoul's 2024 Festa just started and we share everything you need to know before you go! Dojeon team member, Lewis, takes you on an amazing experience you don't want to miss! The Festa runs for 6 days (May 1st - 6th) and each day will have different acts performing and things for you to see and do, with party zones from May 1st - 3rd! With the magic that surrounds Seoul , the 2024 Festa is no different. The Seoul Festa kicked off on May 1st, 2024 with the Mayor of Seoul in attendance, and a wide variety of K-pop artists, food stalls, pop-up market stalls, and photo zones! I attended the event on the opening day (May 1st) and I was blown away by the level of the performances, and how many international people attended the event on it's third anniversary. Seated in the VIP zone for the kick-off event, I had a spectacular view and met other VIP's in attendance. This allowed me to make great memories and meet some amazing people and, of course, take great videos and photos! There were many great acts on the opening night. But here are just a few of my favorite ones. The event is of course a family-friendly event, so if you are heading down with kids, then it's fine, and it will leave a piece of Seoul in your memories for a long time! The aim of the event is of course to demonstrate the charms of Seoul, and Korea, and it is definitely not an event to be missed this Spring! Beginning on Thursday, May 5, 2024, BigHit Music is accepting submissions to audition for their next global boy group! Online submissions will be held on BigHit Music's website and will run through August 31, 2024. Walk-in auditions will start on June 1 and run through August 31 in 17 cities including Hawaii, Vancouver, Sydney, Oakland, Bangkok, Tokyo, and Seoul. Walk-in auditions will start at noon, with in-person sign-ups opening from 11 a.m. They do not require online preregistration, according to BigHit Music. Any male born during or after the year 2006 can apply. As you may have heard, the K-Pop girl group NewJeans is considering terminating their contracts with HYBE and ADOR , but is it worth it? You have probably heard the news about the K-Girl group New Jeans during the past couple of weeks, and of course, the news has divided opinions. NewJeans is currently stuck in the middle of HYBE and ADOR ‘s very public feud as HYBE management and ADOR’s CEO Min Hee Jin battle over control of ADOR and its assets. HYBE has accused Min Hee Jin of trying to gain control of the management rights of ADOR, while Min Hee Jin denied the accusation. She retaliated with allegations that she had filed internal complaints about ILLIT plagiarizing NewJeans. Now if you did not know, ADOR and HYBE have had recent conflicts regarding the girl band, however, HYBE does hold an 80% stake in ADOR, which as a result that power means that HYBE can replace board members, and directors in their favor if they deem necessary. While the truth is still unclear, some feel that her sudden accusation of plagiarism may have been done in a bid to avoid paying the hefty penalty fees for breaking of the contracts. Not only would she have to pay NewJeans’ contract-breaking fee if she wants to take them with her, but she would also have to pay the fees for breaking her own employment contract with HYBE. New Jeans HAS CONFIRMED a comeback in May despite the HYBE & ADOR drama which has been highly publicized. The K-POP band IS also due to release a new single on May 24th domestically in Korea, and then internationally in Japan on June 21, 2024.
