In the recently concluded Bohol K-pop Convention 2023: Gateway to the K-Circle on January 6, 2024, at BQ Mall Atrium, Jagna-based K-Pop cover group HESTIA won the grand prize and will be Bohol's representative for the Philippine Finals in Manila this February 18, 2024. HESTIA bested eight other groups and won the Best Female Dance Performance and Best Female Group awards with their cover of Baby Monsters' debut song "Batter Up" . The event aims to allow all Boholanos to showcase their skills and talents, as well as their passion for K-pop. The event also aims to strengthen the influence of Korea and Korean pop to the general public. Check out HESTIA's performance! NCT Dream will host a global tour this spring, and here is what we know so far, and why you should not miss it! Read on to find out more! Starting in Seoul, South Korea on May 2 - 4, 2024 "The Dream Show 3" tour will then take place in Osaka from May 11th - 12th, Jakarta on May 18th, Tokyo between May 25 - 26, Nagoya on June 2, Hong Kong on June 15 - 16, Bangkok on June 22 - 23, Singapore on June 29 - 30, and finally Manila on August 10 - 11, 2024. Later in the year with more information being announced on May 8, 2024, the show will also head to Europe, the US, and Latam. The locations for the start of the tour, are promised a varied range of experiences from the upbeat and energetic atmosphere of the iconic Seoul and Japanese tour venues, along with the other large Asian cities. BTS' J-Hope will release a six-track album called "Hope on the Street" , which has been described as a "Special Album". Read on to check out all the exciting new details! Have you ever wanted to see a real-life mermaid? Or simply see all the amazing sea creatures first-hand? Well if you are like me, it has been on my bucket list for a while! Come on an extraordinary journey with me as I uncover the wonders at the indoor Daegu shopping mall aquarium! I was really excited to visit the aquarium. Located on the 9th floor of Shinsegae department store at Dongdaegu station - Daegu , South Korea, the aquarium hosts a wide variety of animals and it has something fun for all ages! Living in Daegu, I had always been keen to visit - but never really had the time to. Being offered a discounted ticket through a third party, I took the opportunity to visit on a Sunday afternoon, and it was well worth the visit.  I was surprised at the vast size of the aquarium, and the number of different species that were there. Also, part way around there was an area that was homed to small water turtles, guinea pigs, and chipmunks, all of which you were able to hand feed - and food was available for purchase for around 1,000 KRW at a small food stand inside. This was a nice way to interact with the animals, especially for children to be able to touch and learn about the animals that they were looking at.  During set times throughout the day, the aquarium puts on 4 different underwater performances, "The Mermaid of the Blue Sea", "The Sea Lion Ecology Briefing", "Hello Mermaid", and "Ocean Friends Feeding Time".  Fortunately, I got to see two shows "Hello Mermaid", and "Ocean Friends Feeding Time", both of which were really entertaining and a nice way to relax and experience "Under the Sea Life" in a different tranquil way. It was so amazing and something to post on your Instagram! After watching the show, you can take a walk over the large tank, on a secured netted rope, looking down to the home of sharks, stingrays, and many more sea life in the deep tank below. This was a really good experience, as you got to not only see the animals from a different light but also see the vast scale of the tank where the shows were held. This is a really interactive way to feel a part of the performance, and for children, this would probably be a highlight. (I also really enjoyed it!) I would recommend visiting if you have time as this was a great afternoon out, especially in the rainy season or cold Korean winter days ! This is something not to be missed! The 2024 Hanteo Music Awards became a hot topic for multiple reasons. While the lineup was star-studded, the number of bizarre incidents allegedly occurring was even more of a spectacle than the show itself, let's find out why! Now if you have not already heard, one crazed fan threw "pooped-filled" pants on stage to the K-pop idols who were seen holding their noses on February 18th, 2024. The poop incident was one of the standouts of the night. It was earlier reported that a fan had pooped their pants in the standing area. According to reports, they ended up removing their pants for the act. A netizen surfaced on Twitter to apologize for the matter, but they turned out to be a fake. The poop incident is very much real, however, as many attendees verified it with photos that were posted on social media. Several videos surfaced and caused much confusion among idols and fans alike! This month on the 28th of February, 2024 we are getting a new Disney+ revenge K-Drama, and it looks promising! The Impossible Heir stars Lee Jae Wook , Lee Jun Young , and Hong Su Zu. The story unfolds as three young people shunned by their families and society, seek glorious revenge to take over one of Korea's largest conglomerates. Check out the trailer below! The Main Characters: "Outcasts" of Society Han Tae Oh played by Lee Jae Wook is the son of a murderer, he is depicted as having a cold-blooded personality. If you know many K-drama characters similar to his, you would know how Korean Society treats the children of murderers. In dramas, they usually isolate them and treat them as if they were the murderer. Similarly, to the above Korean society in these dramas typically pools these types of people together, Lee Jun Young who plays Kang In Ha , the illegitimate son of Kangoh Group is another seeking revenge. Lastly, we have Na Hye Won played by Hong Su Zu, who depicts the daughter of a gambler. These three share the commonality of being outcasts in Korean society. One thing each of these characters will be impacted by is the hierarchy and harsh judgments on them. We feel as though a big driver of this revenge plotline will be the lack of respect that is given to people with difficult circumstances as we can see with the main characters of this show. Each character has their own reason for their scheming. Will their purpose keep them together or tear them apart? Will they take over the conglomerate? Will they make it to the "top"? Have you watched A Killer Paradox yet? Released on 9th February 2024 on Netflix the Webtoon-inspired thriller series continues to make viewers question the realities of the main character's " power " and the actuality of " right & wrong ". If you haven't seen the show yet, check out the trailer below! Predictable but still worth watching! We liked the premise of A Killer Paradox , despite it being somewhat typical or similar to other webtoons and dramas in this genre. It just seemed overall, predictable. For instance, the main character's sensitivities and weakness to his newfound ability, the "villain" getting through every episode almost unscathed, untied plotlines, and the death of the sidekick or amenable character. These storylines are always deciding on who deserves to die and be punished and who doesn't and overall make us question, the mens rea * if you will about the things humans do in everyday life and if they should be punished or not. *Mens Rea "the intention or knowledge of wrongdoing that constitutes part of a crime, as opposed to the action or conduct of the accused." (Oxford Dictionary) Weak Lead with a New Power Similar to many hero stories, it begins with a fragile human being, discovering some new "gift" or "power" and in most cases, it's almost as if they endure it as some sort of sickness or ailment - in some ways, it is exactly that (for example, Connect which was a physical power). Both Webtoon-inspired characters Lee Tang of A Killer's Paradox and Ha Dong Soo from Connect are depicted as a "monster" or "weak" humans despite the power they have. Is it in normal human fashion to consider something unusual as bad or negative? These characters are also often depicted as "the scrawny kid" or "nerd" many even in Western culture, for instance, Spiderman. Is the weakness depicted as a true reality of "heroism"? Is real heroism meant to be self-sacrificial? Selfless not selfish? LEE TANG is "NOT" a Hero I thought about that a lot while watching, is he supposed to be a vigilante ? Technically, not because of the underlying intention. He seemed like a good guy overall, he tried to help the first man, but initially, he had no clear intention to help or stop the "bad guys". His first killing was a result of self-defense and then it was pure murder and self-preservation. At the end of the series we see Lee Tang still roaming the streets killing those he gets the bad sense from, when he does this it leaves us with the feeling that he himself is still unsure about what his power is and whether it is beneficial for him and the world or if it is just something he does or something that just happens, or even a string of coincidences. This can be contrasted with the other character Song Chon, who was picking and choosing who should be killed and/or punished based on his own moral compass whereas Lee Tang's was a sensation to which he could sense evil. Actor Choi Woo Sik who played Lee Tang said that this story is not a vigilante story and that Lee Tang's supposed power to sense people's evil doings was actually a " curse ". He also referred to Lee Tang as a " college kid on the edge " which changes the perspective overall and shows us the fragility of the human condition in connection to finding one's purpose etc. Maybe in the end he wasn't a hero because of his power and the fragility that came from it. But then it makes you think what is a hero? And who? Being without weakness doesn't mean someone is the hero but does having the right intention mean that? The simplified definition of a hero is: a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. (Oxford Dictionary) Was Lee Tang any part of that definition? K-pop star Sakura from the globally popular group Le Sserafim shared her flawless skincare regimen with Vogue! Plus, we share Le Sserafim's new single "Easy" scheduled drop date! The Japanese K-pop idol is known for her sense of fashion and skincare, gracing her Instagram feed with a variety of skincare products, from hand cream mist to facial hydration creams! Let's take a look at how Sakura can keep her skin so clear and radiant! Sakura explains that since she has more dry skin, she applies toner every night before bed. She then uses Vitamin C and retinol combination serum to smooth out the lines, especially around the outer eyes to get that youthful look! Sakura then uses a face roller to help the serum absorb into the skin (great tip!). Then she uses a moisturizing face cream (preferably in the morning when you wake up) to finish up the pre-makeup routine. Makeup Stressing that wearing sunscreen is vital, Sakura prefers a foundation that contains sunscreen to skip the step. Mixing the foundation and concealer, Sakura can get her "bare-faced" look that fans go crazy for! First mixing the foundation and concealer with a brush, she then uses a sponge to evenly and lightly smooth it all over her face. Since Le Sserafim is coming out with a new single "Easy", where light makeup is stressed, Sakura has been using a lighter shade when filling out her eyebrows. If you're like us and love dramas you would have seen the latest drama Welcome to Samdal-ri which was released on December 2nd, 2023, and has aired two episodes so far! Starring Shin Hye Sun (Cho Sam Dal) and Ji Chang Wook (Jo Yong Pil) as the main stars, this drama promises DRAMA! Based in Jeju Island and Seoul, it centers around the life of a woman (Sam Dal) whose dream was to leave Jeju, the "small stream" (check the quote below), and expand her horizons and future in the ever-busy city of Seoul. It also centers around a man (Yong Pil) who loves the "small stream" and enjoys his life in Jeju. In ep 1, we see tensions between them as flashbacks appear of them breaking up. Episode 1 introduces us to the main characters and shows us Sam Dal's career and life in Seoul, which seemingly looks perfect on the outside but is missing some important things: good friendships, relationships, and a general peace where she can feel like herself and truly express her emotions! "개천에서 용 난다" - "A dragon rises up from a small stream." Check out the trailer here: The first episode has already managed to make us feel mad and upset with that crazy assistant of Sam Dal's, Bang Eun Ju (played by Jo Yun Seo ) "attempt" to take her own life in a ploy to destroy Sam Dal as she is jealous of her fame and success. She even went as far as to seduce Sam Dal's boyfriend in an attempt to get under her skin but on the surface, Sam Dal doesn't show her real feelings. The assistant goes on to accuse Sam Dal of verbal abuse in the workplace just because she hadn't yet been able to work as a photographer after four years of being an assistant, but it seems Sam Dal worked even more! I feel like justice will prevail with the greedy assistant and as my partner says to awful K-Drama characters when they receive their comeuppance " You have to be like that, you deserve it ". Another thing, we are mad about is the fact that the assistant is defaming Sam Dal and Sam Dal is not revealing key information to the public (for example, the assistant cheating with Sam Dal's boyfriend) which could help in clearing Sam Dal's name! We're fuming! Anyway, other notable characters include Sam Dal's two older sisters (played by Shin Dong Mi and Kang Mi Na) who are also being dragged into the spotlight of Sam Dal's "scandal" (because well if you know Korea, that's how it can be here). They are being dragged in and labeled as a divorcee and single mother! After the three sisters are trapped in their own home with the press lurking outside, they decide to go back home to Jeju and this is where the first episode ends!
