  • Korea Unleashes Hangeul's Global Takeover with Massive Language School Expansion!

From Seoul to the world, this is how Korean is becoming the next must-learn language! From the explosion of K-pop and South Korea's soft culture to the global technology giants Samsung and LG, we explore why Korean is the latest and hottest language the world wants more of! Image: British Highschoolers learn to read Korean - YouTube What are King Sejong Institutes? Established by the South Korean government, primarily through the King Sejong Institute under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, these institutes serve as a place to learn Korean and a place to experience Korean culture. They offer a range of programs, from beginner-level Korean language classes to advanced courses, alongside diverse cultural activities like K-Pop dance, traditional music, cooking, and arts and crafts. What's the latest? Learning Korean has just got easier! South Korea has started to up their expansion on their global reach and soft power activities, by adding eleven brand new King Sejong Institutes across nine countries, which include Egypt and Germany . These new language education centers are names after the very King who created the Hangeul writing system, and these additional centers will allow Korea's global language outreach to hit 252 language institutes worldwide in 87 countries, now that is impressive! In places like Egypt, where over 1,280 people are already on waiting lists, two new institutes are opening to meet the soaring demand. Why are so many people interested in learning Korean? Through global expansion and access to K-pop and K-dramas such as BTS and Squid Game , there has been a dramatic uptake in people wanting to learn Korean, in a bid to move beyond translations and gain a deeper connection to the meaning of the show or song. Beyond entertainment, South Korea's economic strength, with giants like Samsung and Hyundai , offers significant career opportunities for those fluent in Korean. As Korea's influence continues to grow globally, so does the demand for individuals who can bridge cultural and linguistic divides in the business world. Learning Korean in the UK is a fairly new idea, as until recently many British people if asked about Korea, would assume North Korea, as Brits haven't had a tendency to travel to South Korea, unlike Japan or Thailand for example where thousands of Brits travelers go each year. Make sure you're insured everywhere you go! Visit SafteyWing  for more details on how you can protect yourself and your loved ones whenever you travel! (Click on the photo for your discounted plan!) Are you interested in learning Korean? Or have you been learning Korean for a while? We would love to hear about your most challenging part! • Is K-Pop Survival Going Too Far? 7 Reasons "Boys II Planet" Has Fans Worried!

Boys II Planet under fire for too many reasons! (Credits: Mnet) The debut of Boys II Planet has sparked more than just excitement—it has triggered serious concern among fans. Episode 1 revealed a survival show that feels more punishing than uplifting, raising questions about whether this format has gone too far. Audiences expected talent and growth but instead encountered forced drama, grueling tasks, and heavy-handed editing. Here is a breakdown of the most pressing issues. Queerbaiting and Forced Fanservice The show’s early clips featured blindfolded contestants pressed together for guessing games. Many viewers criticized this setup as staged fanservice aimed at generating buzz without genuine context. Comments like “it feels too forced” appeared across social media, suggesting fans are losing interest in artificial drama. Uneven Screen Time and Manipulative Editing Certain trainees received over 15 minutes of screen time, while others barely appeared at all. The uneven spotlight led to accusations of manipulative editing tactics designed to heighten conflict rather than show true talent. Fans pointed out that the most skilled performers were often ignored, fueling frustration among viewers. Controversy Surrounding Kim Geon-woo The inclusion of trainee Kim Geon-woo stirred controversy even before the premiere. Allegations surfaced accusing him of bullying and abusing his power at a former agency. Despite these serious claims, Mnet kept him in the lineup, stating investigations were ongoing. His prominent position in Episode 1 left fans questioning the show’s ethics. The ‘Death Mission’ and Trainee Burnout One of the episode’s most shocking moments involved what fans are calling the "death mission." Trainees had to repeat choreography over thirty times until one collapsed from exhaustion. Social media reactions noted this felt less like training and more like deliberate physical punishment. Viewers expressed concern for the mental and physical health of the participants. Still from Boys II Planet first episode (Credits: Soompi) Vocal Editing and Lip-Syncing Concerns Viewers noticed heavy vocal editing and auto-tune in performance segments. Fans questioned how judges or viewers could assess true vocal ability when the real voices were hidden behind effects. Comments asking “what is the point if we cannot hear their true talent” appeared across forums. Popularity Over Skill? The show’s format allows popularity-based rankings to influence screen time. Observers pointed out that trainees with large existing fanbases seemed favored, while skilled performers without big followings were sidelined. Critics argue this rewards popularity over genuine potential. Peak Time as a Contrast Viewers frequently compare Boys II Planet unfavorably with Peak Time , a show widely praised for fair editing and genuine storytelling. Unlike Boys II Planet , Peak Time gave eliminated contestants respectful treatment and balanced screen time. Many believe this is the direction survival shows should take. Viewer Reactions Speak Out Forums like Reddit and fan communities have been filled with strong reactions: “Survival shows drain the life out of all of us. Winners feel pre-picked", and “Too many shows now rely on gossipy editing rather than talent.” Such feedback shows a growing demand for formats that support both artistry and well-being. Episode 1 Recap: Highlights and Concerns Episode 1 brought high-energy auditions and dramatic eliminations. The “death mission” emphasized physical resilience over creative skill, while editing highlighted conflict over character development. Still, a few trainees managed to shine, drawing cautious hopes that talent may survive the cutthroat format. Where to Watch Episode 2 Episode 2 aired on July 24 at 9:20 PM KST for Planet K and July 25 at the same time for Planet C. Episodes are available on Mnet’s official platforms, where viewers often follow and debate outcomes in real time. Final Thoughts Episode 1 of Boys II Planet raised important questions. Is this show about discovering talent or just testing endurance? Without a shift in focus, fans fear the format will continue to favor conflict and popularity over authenticity and care. Was Episode 1 unfair, or did your favorite trainee shine through? Share your thoughts below and join the discussion. #BoysIIPlanet #realitytv

  • South Korea Summer’s Hottest Trend: Lightweight Jackets & Short Sleeves Take Over!

It's all about lightweight jackets and short sleeves! We take a look at South Korea's hottest 2025 summer trends to keep cool and stylish! Image: Summers Hottest trends Lightweight jacket and short sleeves - Photo: seoulkoreaasia.com Korea's Scorching Summer Sparks Boom in Ultra-Light Fashion South Korea has so far faced the hottest start to summer on record, and with scorching temperatures, fashion retailers are experiencing a demand for ultra-light jackets and short sleeved shirts this year. This new surge has also been influenced by the changing style of younger customers , who seem to have more disposable incomes despite high inflation rates in recent months. Korean fashion brands have dramatically expanded their collections of these items. Some retailers are even reporting triple-digit sales growth compared to the same time last year, highlighting a clear shift in summer fashion trends. Your Guide to "One-Mile Wear": Effortless Style, Ultimate Comfort If you have not yet heard of this term, then you are about to discover something new and trending amongst the younger Korean generation. The term "One-mile wear" is a concept that first became popular in neighboring Japan, and it refers to comfortable yet presentable clothing, for quick trips, hot temperatures, and short trips like the coffee run outside the home. It also helps bridge the gap between formal and loungewear. If you have ever been to Korea, then you would have noticed every other person wearing "One Mile" outfits, mainly due to the perfect modern comfortable style, which blurs the lines between work, leisure and the day to day errands. It also helps to push the popularity of athleisure which basically means normalizing sportswear outside of the gym, and instead adding them into every day fashion. Since many Koreans are gym focused, the sleek style track pants, elevated hoodies and lightweight jackets coated in performance fabrics, alongside short-sleeved t-shirts or shirts are a no brainer. This is because they offer a sense of comfort and familiarity to the person wearing them. What is your 2025 summer fashion statement? We would love to hear from you in the comments below! #SummerFashion #LightweightJackets #ShortSleeveStyle #SummerTrends #FashionBoom

  • Netflix's Next Obsession? How Korean Mysticism (Occult) is Casting a Global Spell

From ancient rituals to Netflix binges, how shamanism is reshaping the Hallyu Wave . Let's dive in deeper and see why it has been captivating global audiences! Image: Korean folk- shore culture meets K-drama - Photo kpopmap.com What does the term "K-Occult" mean? Okay, so first up what is "K-Occult" ? Well this is a relatively new and informal term that refers to Korean-produced media (films, dramas, webtoons, etc.) that heavily feature traditional Korean folklore, shamanism , mysticism, and supernatural elements. This is very much unlike typical Western horror, because K-Occult offers a fresh, culturally rich perspective through shamanistic rituals, unique spirits, and ancient beliefs. This distinct genre is rapidly gaining worldwide traction, drawing audiences into Korea's unique mystical world. Image: Kpop Demon Hunters and mega crew ‘BUMSUP’” (Image courtesy of Netflix and Image from YouTube channel ‘THE CHOOM’) So, what makes K-occult so captivating? Unlike the Western occult genre , which often focuses on vampires and werewolves, Korean occult draws deeply from its cultural and historical roots, incorporating shamanism, Buddhism , and folk beliefs. This unique fusion offers a deeper understanding of Korean culture. Exhuma and the Power of Korean Land Image: Exhuma (ShowBox) Another jaw dropping K-Occult film, Exhuma , which was released last year in 2024. This wasn't a horror movie but more of a chilling dive into the Pungsujiri which is an ancient belief which holds a lot of power. The Pungsujiri dictated that the energy of the earth directly impacts those who live on it or, crucially, those whose ancestors are buried within it.  Exhuma masterfully builds on this eerie concept, exploring the supernatural dread that can be unleashed when families face misfortune, or even haunting by vengeful ghosts, all because their ancestors rest in inauspicious, cursed ground. It's a spine-tingling premise rooted deeply in Korea's mystical heritage and it is for sure one not to be missed if you haven't seen it already. You WON'T Believe What's Taking Over K-Content – And Why Western Audiences Are OBSESSED! Forget everything you thought you knew about Korean dramas! Shamanism isn't just for horror flicks anymore; it's the hottest new trend in K-content, and it's captivating global audiences, especially in the West where in recent years K-dramas have taken off, and Korean culture is starting to cement itself in many European and American households. Thanks to global streaming giants like Netflix, these shaman-themed dramas are breaking cultural barriers, offering viewers a fresh and powerful way to explore universal themes. At Dojeon Media, we're bringing moving stories about family bonds, the journey of healing, and the rich tapestry of tradition. The K-Occult Unveiled: A Glimpse into Korean Folk Beliefs Traditional Korean culture and its beliefs can be seen clearly than ever before, and they are showcased with a strong connection to nature, ancestral spirits, and direct communication with deities through shamans. Shamans aren't just characters on screen; young, tech-savvy shamans are building massive followings on social media, blurring the lines between ancient tradition and modern influence. Even A-list Korean stars are jumping on board these mystical projects, proving this isn't just a fleeting fad. Making it clearer for audiences has also never been easier, and this can be seen through films like The Wailing (2016), which offers a chilling yet insightful window into typical Korean folk beliefs. These traditions deeply embrace and show a strong connection to nature, ancestral spirits, and direct communication with deities through shamans, which in 2025 can still ring true for many people who visit Korea, as these rich values are shown throughout Korea and Korean families. In the film, a shaman embodies this spiritual link, channeling power from the gods to cure illnesses, bless fortunes, or bravely exorcise malevolent forces. This is vividly portrayed in a powerful scene where the shaman performs a dramatic ritual, known as a "gut," specifically to purge evil spirits and protect the beleaguered village. Sounds dramatic? Well, these are all things that Koreans once believed and some still do today. 2025 will see plenty of K-dramas and films using this ancient tradition to tell fresh, emotional stories. Viewers in Korea and around the world are loving the mix of mystery, culture, and heart that comes with it. From ancient legends to modern screen hits, the captivating world of K-Occult invites you to discover the deeper, mystical soul of Korea. Do you have any favorite K-Occult tales? If so, comment below and let the Dojeon team know! #KOccult #KoreanFolklore #Exhuma #TheWailing #KoreanHorror #한국신화 #무속신앙

  • Emmy-Nominated Clint Edwards: Interviewing the Interviewer!

From his Emmy-nominated work at Fox News to taking the K-pop interviewer's stage, get ready as we flip the script and uncover the stories he's never told. We interview the interviewer, Clint Edwards! Image: ENHYPEN exclusive: Members talk Tacoma concert at Mariners pitch - Photo: Clint Edwards Recently, Lewis Hooper from the Dojeon media team had an exclusive opportunity to go behind the scenes and interview Emmy-nominated Clint Edwards , known for his work as an interviewer at Fox News 13 and his K-pop coverage with his own show K-pop Catch Up. Meet Clint Edwards My name is Clint Edwards, and I am a journalist in Seattle, Washington, for a local news channel called Fox News 13, and I have my own series called K-pop Catch Up , where I have interviewed around 80 K-pop groups and counting. More recently, I have started an exciting new channel called Fan Service which takes a more relaxed approach as it focuses on K-pop idols day to day lives without the main focus on album promoting. Image: Clint Edwards Photo: Clint Edwards How Journalism & K-pop Catch Up "Just Happened" "K-pop journalism kind of just happened," Clint explains. "I initially studied film in college, and after trying my hand in the film industry, I applied to a local news station that was hiring. This was a small outlet in Alabama." After about eighteen months, Clint relocated to Texas. It was during the 2020 pandemic that he discovered K-pop. He also noticed many K-pop artists were conducting interviews via Zoom, which spared an idea. "I started sending out my own requests," he recalls. "This was around the time of OMEGA X , and that's how I secured my very first interview." From there, he steadily built his connections to where he is today. From Journalist to Emmy Nominee: How It Happened Clint explained that "While I'd love an Emmy for K-pop, my nomination actually came during my time in Texas, in the News and Journalism category . It was for news coverage I did during a severe storm, focusing on re-homing displaced individuals ." Here's hoping a K-pop category emerges shortly – that would be amazing! Think You Know K-Pop? One Major Misconception Western Audiences Have Back in the day, artists like PSY with "Gangnam Style " really put K-pop on the map for Western audiences.  It was this massive, undeniable moment. But since that initial explosion, I think a lot of what Westerners, especially those who aren't deep into K-pop, tend to see is often the "dark side" – you know, the kind of documentaries the BBC puts out. Or, it's just content revolving around BTS or BLACKPINK , because they're the big names that broke through. What I believe Western audiences often miss is the idols themselves.  Yes, these artists are a product of their company's system, but people don't see the immense hard work that goes into being successful.  They don't see the grueling training, the constant struggle to stand out in an incredibly competitive industry. It's not just about catchy songs and flashy performances; it's about years of dedication, sacrifice, and an almost unimaginable level of effort. Image: Clint Edwards at FOX News 13 - K-pop interview. Photo: Clint Edwards. From a purely American perspective, our mainstream knowledge of K-pop is pretty much limited to BTS and BLACKPINK. But even within that, the understanding of the artists as individuals and their journey is often lacking. It's a shame, because there's so much more to it. We do have things like Kpop Demon Hunters now, which is starting to bring a bit more substance and nuance to the conversation, which is definitely a step in the right direction. My K-Pop Picks Do I have a favorite K-pop group or artist? That's a tough one, but I can tell you about how I got hooked. Back in 2016 , I actually discovered BTS  and Ailee  at the same time. Ailee really opened the door for me to a lot of other K-pop artists. Then, towards the end of 2019 , I saw ITZY   and CIX   debut. That same year, I really dove deep into ASTRO , who quickly became my favourite group of all time . After that, I pretty much consumed every piece of their content online and bought all their albums. The Interview That Stayed With Me: A K-Pop Story Honestly, I do so many interviews that I've started doing repeat interviews , following groups right from the beginning of their K-pop journey. That's something not a lot of other interviewers or channels do. OMEGA X  is a great example; I got them right from the start, and I actually just interviewed their first unit, OXN, four days ago. That's four years after my initial interviews with OMEGA X! For me, it's all about seeing these groups grow and evolve. Image: Clint Edwards and KINO. Photo: Clint Edwards But my first ever in-person interview? That was with NCT DREAM . I reached out to the venue, and somehow, I was allowed to go backstage into their green room. The guys walked in looking exactly like they stepped out of a music video – totally unreal. But then we started talking, and they were just such great guys who make incredible music. I'll always remember that moment. The K-Pop Grind My entire social media algorithm is just K-pop, and honestly, it's been that way for a while. I've been following the scene since 2016, but it really picked up for me around 2019. It feels like there's just so much more happening now—so many summer comebacks and new groups debuting, it's a constant stream. Image: Clint Edwards and SECRET NUMBER Photo: Clint Edwards At Fox, we get all the press releases, but it's a beast trying to keep up with everything. The time difference between the US and Korea is probably the biggest challenge. I'm talking about sometimes having to wake up at 4 or 5 AM to interview with a K-pop group. Then, I'll try to catch a few more hours of sleep before heading into work and starting all over again. Navigating the K-Pop Deluge "Are there any particular K-pop trends or emerging artists that I'm especially excited about right now?" Honestly, it's getting harder and harder to pick. The K-pop market is just so saturated  these days. It feels like we've got a new survival show popping up every six months, with companies you've never even heard of. And then you have groups from other countries trying to claim they're K-pop, which just adds another layer to the chaos. Standing out in this industry? It's incredibly difficult. If you don't drop a certified hit song, another group will be right there, ready to take your spot. Image: Clint Edwards and NCT DREAM behind-the-scenes interview in Seattle, US. Photo: Clint Edwards In terms of trends, well, my entire algorithm is pretty much just K-pop.  I've been following it since 2016, and really diving deep since 2019, and it feels like there's an explosion of activity. Every summer, it's a non-stop barrage of comebacks and new groups debuting. So, naturally, all my social media feeds are completely dominated by K-pop-related content. At Fox, we get all the press releases, but even with that insider access, it's a challenge to keep up with everything. It's a full-time job just trying to track all the new releases and developments! Image: Clint Edwards and NCT DREAM behind-the-scenes interview in Seattle, US. Photo: Clint Edwards Finally Visiting Korea! Guess what? I'm actually going to be coming to Korea for the first time this October! I'll be there for two weeks, and honestly, I'm beyond excited to finally experience Korean culture first-hand. I've even been taking Korean classes on and off for the past couple of years whenever I can squeeze them in, so I'm really looking forward to putting what I've learned to use! Got questions for Clint Edwards? Drop them in the comments below! Check out our interview with Clint! #ClintEdwards #InterviewTheInterviewer #EmmyNominated #Kpop #BehindTheScenes #MediaMaestro

Some were not renewed, and others saw the group replaced without a formal statement. This includes major partnerships with Nike, Levi’s, LG Gram, Musinsa, McDonald’s Korea, OLENS, and Coca-Cola . According to recent updates, NewJeans is no longer featured in any group-based advertising campaigns. NewJeans future hangs between both companies (Credits: X0 Legal Battle Puts NewJeans' Brand Work on Hold The timing of this silence isn’t random. Amid the ongoing legal dispute between HYBE and ADOR , a court ruling has now blocked the members from engaging in any individual sponsorships or activities outside of ADOR's authority. This has impacted both group and solo appearances. Even though a few members still attend fashion and beauty events, they do so only under ADOR’s direct supervision. This restriction has essentially paused the group's influence across the advertising world. Once K-pop’s Top Brand, Now Missing in Action It wasn’t long ago that NewJeans was considered one of the most marketable K-pop groups globally, with brands lining up to sign them. Their fresh Y2K aesthetic and massive Gen Z appeal made them a favorite for everything from streetwear to tech. But with no new group promos, endorsements, or campaigns in sight, the sharp decline in public-facing activities has caught attention. New Jean collaboration with Pepero and Coke (Credits: Pinterest) From Coca-Cola to Musinsa: The Full List So Far Based on the viral Instagram post and visual data: Coca-Cola quietly ended its campaign featuring NewJeans. Musinsa has also moved on without an official goodbye. LG Gram laptops no longer feature them on any banners or visuals. Nike, which once used them heavily in Korea, has not updated or renewed related content. McDonald’s Korea  removed all related brand imagery. OLENS no longer promotes NewJeans on its landing pages or SNS. Levi’s appears to have shifted its focus elsewhere. What’s Next for NewJeans? While their music and fanbase remain strong, the lack of brand activity raises big questions. Is this just a pause, or a sign of deeper internal conflict? With ADOR still managing their official schedules, any comeback, whether musically or commercially, would depend on how this legal situation unfolds. Will NewJeans Regain Their Commercial Crown? The silence is loud, and fans are watching closely. Once the queens of both sound and style, NewJeans now face one of their toughest industry moments. What do you think—will brands return once the dust settles, or is this a long-term shift for the group? #NewJeans #NJZ

  • STRAY KIDS' RIAA Success Fuels Massive Merch Hype Across the US!

STRAY KIDS Official Merch Sale Draws Hundreds of K-Pop Fans in the US. Here is what the Dojeon team knows! Image: K-pop band STRAYKIDS - Photo: nolae.nl The Big Three So why is STRAY KIDS becoming so popular in the US? The US has previously, up until very recently, focused on the "big three": BLACKPINK , BTS , and PSY . Making a stand Stray Kids have cemented their position as a main player in the K-pop market in the US, and they are backed by impressive sales figures and chart victories. The recent album release from STRAY KIDS went viral on social media for the extreme waiting lines and ranking second in album sales the band should be proud. Their consistent success firmly places them as the second-most-accomplished K-pop act in the U.S., trailing only BTS. Adding to their expanding list of accolades, one of their beloved singles recently earned the group another notable win, so what makes them stand out in the US to other K-pop groups? Stray Kids Solidifies U.S. Dominance with Latest RIAA Honor The US audience, of course prefers English music, however with the rise in K-culture bands like Stray Kids are helping to put K-pop on the Western map. It is very rare for a South Korean group to snag a US Single certification, which makes it a massive milestone in the K-pop world. Let's face it, the US is one of, if not the biggest stage in the world, and only a handful of acts in the past have managed this impressive feat, and Stray Kids are definitely making their mark, and that can be seen with their recent RIAA honors . They're definitely making their mark, even if BTS  still holds the top spot with their extensive collection of certified hits—including many that have soared past gold status. Stray Kids: Connecting with America Through Honest Lyrics and Genuine Personalities Stray Kids often tackle themes of struggle, self-discovery, identity, and mental health in their lyrics. This resonates deeply with a younger audience, offering comfort and relatability beyond typical love songs, and it also rings true for so many Americans today. Beyond their stage personas, the members are known for their chaotic yet endearing personalities, often showcased in their abundant online content (reality shows, behind-the-scenes videos, social media). This helps fans feel a genuine connection to them as individuals and as a "family. With WOKE culture  in the US having hit an all time high, all of these traits that Stray Kids seem to be showcasing certainly help! • Egypt Hosts First Stop of “Hellbound” World Tour: Don’t Miss It! We Have All the Inside Details!

Before August Starts… Don’t Miss the Hellbound Event in Egypt! 🇰🇷🇪🇬 If you're in Egypt this July, consider yourself lucky! because something extraordinary is happening, and it’s vanishing by the end of the month. From July 1st to 31st, the Korean Cultural Center in Egypt is hosting a free immersive exhibition that’s making headlines around the world: Hellbound . Created by the visionary duo Choi Gyu-seok and Yeon Sang-ho (the genius behind Train to Busan ), Hellbound ( 지옥 in Korean ) is a haunting, thought-provoking work that rips open questions about divine justice, human fear, and the collapse of modern society. As an Egyptian journalist invited to cover the experience, Dojeon team member, Manar, had the chance to explore this groundbreaking event up close, and I can confidently say: this is more than an exhibition. It’s a cultural moment! Why Egypt? Photo credit: © Manar Aly – Dojeon Media Many were surprised to see Egypt chosen as the debut country for this international tour. But for those familiar with the local culture, the choice makes perfect sense. Egyptians are widely known for being warm, welcoming, and highly supportive of new cultures. In recent years, interest in Korean dramas, K-pop, and K-webtoons has grown dramatically in Egypt, especially among the youth. Photo credit: © Manar Aly – Dojeon Media The Korean Cultural Center in Cairo has played a vital role in building this connection, and the Hellbound exhibition is now strengthening that cultural bridge even further. The Exhibition Experience Photo credit: © Manar Aly – Dojeon Media The moment you enter the exhibition, you feel like you're inside the story. Each area is made to look like parts of the webtoon. There are big posters of the characters, screens showing important scenes, and short texts explaining each person’s story, choices, and emotions. Photo credit: © Manar Aly – Dojeon Media Even if you never read the webtoon or watched the Netflix show, you’ll understand the characters in just a few minutes. Interactive Experience Handed out to visitors, this stamp sheet creates a playful connection with the exhibition as they move through the space. Once completed, it can be exchanged for a souvenir gift. Photo credit: © Manar Aly – Dojeon Media The exhibition also offers an interactive experience. At the entrance, visitors receive a small sheet of paper to carry throughout the exhibition, collecting stamps representing the three main characters. Once completed, this “ narrative passport ” can be exchanged for a small gift. At the end, there’s a short form where you can write your opinion: "Did you watch the Netflix show? Read the webtoon? What do you think?" This makes the event fun, interactive, and easy for everyone to join... even if it’s your first time learning about Korean webtoons . And to conclude the visit, a creative workshop allows each participant to design a personalized badge. Everyone could decorate it in their own style (I chose to write the title of the webtoon and my name). At the end of the visit, a workshop allowed participants to create a personalized badge. Each person could decorate it freely (I chose to stamp the webtoon title and write my name on it.) Photo credit: © Manar Aly – Dojeon Media A Strong Response from Egyptian Youth Photo credit: © Manar Aly – Dojeon Media During the visit, the excitement was clear. Young Egyptians, many of them passionate fans of Korean pop culture, walked through the exhibition with curiosity and joy. Some took selfies in front of the character visuals; others stood still, carefully reading each panel. One visitor whispered, “It’s like stepping inside the webtoon.” This reaction highlights not only the quality of the exhibit, but also the deep connection that K-culture has created among young Egyptians and youth throughout North Africa and the Arab world. A Special Visit from the Creator Photo credit: © Korean Cultural Center In Egypt – instgram: @kcc_egypt On July 2, co-creator Choi Gyu-seok visited Cairo for a special fan meeting, attended by over 150 people . He shared stories about the creative process behind Hellbound and the message behind the series. For many fans, it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet one of Korea’s most respected storytellers in person. From Cairo to the World Photo credit: © Manar Aly – Dojeon Media This event is not limited to Egypt . After Cairo , the Hellbound exhibition will continue to Budapest , Ottawa , Shanghai , and Osaka , bringing K-webtoons to a global audience. But Egypt will always be remembered as the first stop, and Cairo was chosen to go first. That decision reflects the strong relationship between Korea and Egypt, and the growing role of K-culture as a global bridge. Final Thoughts Photo credit: © Manar Aly – Dojeon Media As a journalist and as an Egyptian, I (Manar) am proud to see this level of cultural exchange take place on our soil. The Hellbound exhibition is not just entertainment; it’s a testament to how Korean stories are resonating with hearts around the world. And for Egyptians, it’s proof that our love for K-culture is seen, respected, and celebrated. If you are in Egypt before the end of July, I strongly encourage you to visit. It’s free, powerful, and unforgettable. I experienced it. I documented it. And I’ll always remember it. #Hellbound #Korea #Egypt #ChoiGyuseok #KoreanCulturalCenter #Journalist #Cairo

  • "Squid Game 3" Mania: Korean Retail Giants Battle It Out with Epic Pop-Up Stores!

The dalgona craze and beyond returns as brands vie for four attention! We explore how Korea has amazingly embraced this global craze! Image: This photo provided by GS Group on June 30, 2025, shows exclusive tie-in merchandise produced in collaboration with the newly released third season of Netflix’s hit series “Squid Game. (Yonhap) Squid Game has exploded onto our screens within the past couple of years, with the three-part series ending in June this year. Squid Game merchandise is absolutely crazy  in Korea, driven by a powerful combination of national pride, the show's global phenomenon status, and incredibly savvy marketing. Image: Squid Game 3 pop-up store./Courtesy of Shinsegae What's caused this explosion? "Hallyu" or Korean Wave is one factor as to why Korean products seem to be flying off the shelf, as well as Koreas content industry, and the sudden explosive global success instils immense pride in Koreans. Why? Well it is because seeing their culture resonate so widely fuels a strong desire to engage with the brand is what Korea's soft power has always wanted since natural resources are not great compared to other countries. The Dalgona Challenge Image: The Dalgona Challenge - Photo: thrillmag.com The dalgona cookie challenge, a highlight from Season 1, has spawned entire lines of products. You can buy pre-made dalgona candies with the shapes already imprinted, or, more thrillingly, purchase dalgona carving kits. These kits come with the ladle, metal press, and various shape cutters (star, circle, triangle, umbrella) – letting fans recreate the nerve-wracking game right in their own kitchens. Some of the Dojeon team and their families have also tried this game, and they have said that it looks a whole lot easier than it actually is in real life. As for the retailers Korean retailers are not just selling merch, but they are making sure that they case in on Squid Game merch, that with epic experiences, from local GS25 stores to the more high end market like Shinsegae, these Korean retailers have gone all out on immersive marketing, from inviting some of the cast to launch events, to famous influencers. Imagine stepping into a real-life Squid Game : we're talking multi-city pop-up stores bursting with life-sized pink guards, Younghee and Cheolsu statues , and interactive zones that make you feel like you're literally in the show's dystopian world. These aren't just shops, they're cultural events you have to see to believe! The Dojeon team recently covered the Squid Game parade, which took place right through the center of Seoul. Over its history, the area has seen a whole host of parades and demonstrations. For a TV series to have this much power is impressive, to say the least. These days, you can buy literally anything related to the show, from the iconic tracksuits to the unsettling pink guard uniforms, which have become a popular go-to outfit for Halloween . All of these have allowed fans to step into either role and feel as if they are a part of the iconic TV series themselves. Have you bought any Squid Game merchandise? If so, leave a comment and let us know what merch you have! #SquidGameMerch #오징어게임굿즈 #NetflixKorea #한국기념품 #SquidGamePopUp #MadeInKorea
