Korea Unleashes Hangeul's Global Takeover with Massive Language School Expansion!

From Seoul to the world, this is how Korean is becoming the next must-learn language! From the explosion of K-pop and South Korea's soft culture to the global technology giants Samsung and LG, we explore why Korean is the latest and hottest language the world wants more of!

What are King Sejong Institutes?

Established by the South Korean government, primarily through the King Sejong Institute under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, these institutes serve as a place to learn Korean and a place to experience Korean culture. They offer a range of programs, from beginner-level Korean language classes to advanced courses, alongside diverse cultural activities like K-Pop dance, traditional music, cooking, and arts and crafts.

What's the latest?

Learning Korean has just got easier! South Korea has started to up their expansion on their global reach and soft power activities, by adding eleven brand new King Sejong Institutes across nine countries, which include Egypt and Germany.

These new language education centers are names after the very King who created the Hangeul writing system, and these additional centers will allow Korea's global language outreach to hit 252 language institutes worldwide in 87 countries, now that is impressive!

In places like Egypt, where over 1,280 people are already on waiting lists, two new institutes are opening to meet the soaring demand.

Why are so many people interested in learning Korean?

Through global expansion and access to K-pop and K-dramas such as BTS and Squid Game,

there has been a dramatic uptake in people wanting to learn Korean, in a bid to move beyond translations and gain a deeper connection to the meaning of the show or song.

Beyond entertainment, South Korea's economic strength, with giants like Samsung and Hyundai, offers significant career opportunities for those fluent in Korean. As Korea's influence continues to grow globally, so does the demand for individuals who can bridge cultural and linguistic divides in the business world.

Learning Korean in the UK is a fairly new idea, as until recently many British people if asked about Korea, would assume North Korea, as Brits haven't had a tendency to travel to South Korea, unlike Japan or Thailand for example where thousands of Brits travelers go each year.
