Hong Min-gi from Study Group amid dating violence controversy (Fable Company) Study Group actor Hong Min-gi has suddenly found himself at the center of a serious controversy, just as fans were waiting to see him return as Park Geon-yeop in Study Group 2. The actor is facing allegations from a woman who identifies herself as his former girlfriend. She has accused him of dating violence, threats and other troubling behaviour during their relationship, while later posts also brought up an alleged pregnancy and abortion. Hong Min-gi's agency, Fable Company, has strongly denied the allegations and announced that it is preparing legal action. The former girlfriend has since pushed back against the agency's statements, turning the situation into a dispute where both sides are presenting very different versions of what happened. Here is everything that has happened so far. How Did the Hong Min-gi Controversy Begin? The controversy began on August 19, when a woman identified as A posted about her alleged relationship with Hong Min-gi on social media. She also shared parts of a certified legal letter reportedly sent to the actor in July. According to her claims, she experienced physical and verbal abuse during their relationship. She alleged that Hong Min-gi once threw a soju bottle in her direction in a public place, threatened her and repeatedly contacted her after becoming suspicious that she was seeing someone else. She also alleged that he grabbed her neck and pushed her during an argument, while claiming that he had invaded her privacy by checking her phone and private messages. These remain allegations from A, not established findings by a court. Hong Min-gi's Still from K-drama Study Group (Tving) Hong Min-gi's Agency Strongly Denies the Claims Fable Company responded on August 19, saying many of A's claims differed from the facts the agency had confirmed with Hong Min-gi. The agency said the actor had tried to resolve the private relationship without taking public or legal action but decided to respond after A's posts spread online. According to the agency, the two began dating in April, but the relationship became difficult because of disagreements surrounding A's contact with another man. The agency also claimed that A repeatedly contacted Hong Min-gi after he had made it clear that he did not want to continue the relationship. It described his situation as one involving unwanted contact and said legal action could follow over allegations of stalking and defamation. The Controversy Became More Serious with the Pregnancy Claims The situation escalated further when A made additional claims about an alleged pregnancy and abortion. A said that she became pregnant while dating Hong Min-gi and claimed that he pressured her to undergo an abortion. She said she later underwent the procedure and stated that she had medical records and an ultrasound image related to the pregnancy. Hong Min-gi's agency strongly denied this part of the story as well. In its second statement, Fable Company said the actor had never seen a pregnancy test from A and denied that he had ever pressured her to have an abortion. The agency also questioned the ultrasound image A shared and said it had asked medical professionals to examine it. It stated that the relevant material could be submitted as evidence as the dispute moves toward legal proceedings. A then responded again, saying that her claims about the pregnancy and procedure were genuine and that she had medical records and other material to support her account. As of now, the two sides' accounts remain sharply different. Hong Min-gi's Still from K-drama Study Group (Tving) Why Is Study Group 2 Now Being Mentioned? This controversy has become particularly significant because Hong Mi-gi has already completed filming for Study Group 2. He played Park Geon-yeop in the first season of the TVING series and reportedly returned for the second season. Korean reports say filming for the new season has already been completed, meaning the production cannot simply treat the controversy as something happening before casting. Hong Min Gi also reportedly did not attend the Study Group 2 wrap-up party held on August 19, the same day the allegations became public. That immediately raised questions about how the production will handle his appearance in the upcoming season. For now, there has been no confirmed announcement that his scenes will be removed or that the drama itself will be delayed. What Happens Next for Hong Min-gi? This is still a developing situation, so it is too early to say what the outcome will be. Hong Mi-gi's agency has indicated that it intends to take legal action over what it describes as false claims, while A has said she will also pursue the matter and continues to dispute the agency's version of events. That means the situation may move beyond social media and entertainment coverage into a formal legal process, where evidence and testimony can be examined more closely. Until that happens, it is important to separate what has been alleged from what has been proven. Study Group K-drama Full Cast (Tving) What About Study Group 2? For fans of the drama, this is probably the biggest question. Study Group 2 has already completed filming, and Hong Min-gi is reportedly part of the finished cast. He is expected to reprise Park Geo-yeop, the character he played in the first season. However, the production's response to the controversy has not yet been fully confirmed. With the actor's controversy developing just before the second season's release, viewers will naturally be watching to see whether TVING or the production team makes any changes to the planned release. For now, the safest conclusion is that the future of Hong Min-gi's role in the drama remains unclear, rather than assuming that he has already been removed. Final Thoughts Hong Min-gi's controversy has developed very quickly, with serious allegations, strong denials and competing statements appearing within just a few days. Because both sides are giving different accounts and the matter may now enter a legal process, it is important not to treat social media claims as facts. What makes the situation particularly complicated for K-drama fans is the timing. Study Group 2 has already finished filming, meaning the controversy could directly affect a highly anticipated drama even before its release. For now, viewers will have to wait for further statements and, potentially, the legal process to reveal what actually happened. What do you think TVING should do about Hong Mi-gi's role in Study Group 2 while the controversy is still developing? #controversy #HongMinGi
