A bit of shocking news came to light late last night when a market analysis report betted that global K-pop sensation Blackpink will not be renewing its contract with YG Entertainment. According to Hyundai Motor Securities analyst, Kim Hyun Yong, "The possibility of all Blackpink members renewing their contracts [with YG Entertainment] looks dim currently, though it is likely that Blackpink’s group activity will continue with some members extending their contracts." He continued, "It will inevitably be bad news for YG Entertainment unless it renews contracts with all four members." Blackpink's Jennie has signed a contract with Columbia Records, in partnership with her record label and company Oddatelier with her new single which is set to be released in October. Jennie was actually signed by the record label this morning (September 9, 2024) and it was updated on Columbia Records own Instagram page, with the caption "We are family" which I thought was endearing to hear. Let's take a look at this historic post! Jennie is my favorite member of Blackpink due to her impressive vocals and image. I think that she is always on point, and excels at everything she puts her mind to. Jennie is also the highest achieving female Korean act on the Billboard charts, and she is the only Korean artist to headline Coachella . She also released her debut solo album "SOLO" in 2018 before the band went their separate ways, and later in 2023, she released a special solo "You & Me". Jennie was born in Korea, but moved to and studied in Auckland, New Zealand when she was 10 for five years before returning to Korea and joining the entertainment powerhouse YG’s talent academy. Blackpink formed in 2016 and has gone on to become the first music group and Korean female act to have five music videos accumulate one billion views each on YouTube and are the most-followed girl group on Spotify and rightly so. Our girl Jennie from Blackpink is back with her latest teaser for her solo comeback! We break down the new teaser and our thoughts on her highly-anticipated solo! I have said it before and I will say it again, Jennie is my favorite member of the K-pop girl band Blackpink , and I am delighted that she has taken on her solo career which I am sure she will be very successful in! She recently dropped the teaser video for her new single "Pretty Girls" . Let's take a look at the new teaser! From the start, I love the vintage style concept that has been used, with the screen flickers on what I would imagine being an old black and white TV, with her conservative but very fetching white dress and British teacup. That's before turning up the heat in an old Western-style and more raunchy outfit with that good old-fashioned American radio sound with the slight crackle in the background. It is a little similar however to when Beyonce released "Pretty Girls" as she stripped back her makeup and dress code and went back to her humble African American routes in the deep South. In this video, of course, there are subliminal messages like "Pretty girls treat themselves and pretty girls don't do drugs" , which makes me feel that the video will become more mainstream once the full video has been released.
