August Weather: Hot but Hopeful!
The floods of the monsoon rains have usually past by this time, and August in Korea showcases what can only be described as blistering hot weather!
That said, during 2025 Malbok (말복), the last of the three "dog days of summer," falls on August 9th. From this day forward, you can expect the weather across South Korea to become progressively more comfortable, offering some welcome relief from the intense summer heat.
Temperatures however have day time highs of around 29 (84 Fahrenheit) degrees, with night time temperatures usually settling at around 22 (72 Fahrenheit) degrees. However, the humidity is another level, and throughout August you won't want to stray too far from air conditioning.
Your Ultimate Fun-in-the-Sun Packing Guide
This is something that the Dojeon team often get asked from our readers. What should I pack to visit Korea?

If you really want to experience Korea like a local this August, as well as staying cool while you explore, then packing is key! Here's your must-have checklist to conquer the heat in style!
Feather-Light & Fabulous Clothing: Ditch the heavy stuff! We're talking flowy fabrics, moisture-wicking wonders, and anything that lets your skin breathe. Think linen shirts, breezy dresses, and athletic wear that keeps you cool as you hop from temple to trendy café, which are both plentiful throughout Korea!
Sunscreen: This is non-negotiable! Protect that precious skin from the powerful Korean sun. Pro tip: Once you land, make a beeline for Olive Young – they have an incredible selection of innovative Korean sunscreens that are lightweight and feel amazing!
Shades & Style Savers: A chic pair of sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat aren't just fashion statements; they're your best friends against the glare. Look cool, stay cool!
Mosquito Repellent: Those little buzzing villains can be a nuisance! Pack your favorite repellent to keep them at bay. Don't sweat it if you forget; you can easily grab effective sprays and patches at local Daiso or Olive Young stores.
Your Personal Breeze Machine (aka Portable Fan): Trust us on this one – every local has one, and you'll quickly see why! These little gadgets are absolute lifesavers for instant relief. Embrace the practicality; you'll blend right in!
Hydration Hero (Reusable Water Bottle): Exploring under the summer sun means staying hydrated. Fill up your reusable bottle often and keep that refreshing H2O close at hand!
Rain-Ready Gear: While the heavy monsoon rains usually pass, sudden summer showers can still pop up. A lightweight rain jacket or a compact umbrella will keep you dry and ready to continue your adventures, come rain or shine!
Banpo Bridge light show

If you have not checked this show out on YouTube, then do it now! This show is spectacular, and you will be able to enjoy a whopping 380 rainbow colored jets which set the water alight, while enjoying a local experience along the famous Han River, and listening to synchronized K-pop music. Not enough? Well, this show has even been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s longest bridge fountain. Here are the show times, and it lasts for 20 minutes:
July & August weekdays: 7:30 pm, 8:00 pm, 8:30 pm, 9:00 pm
July & August weekends: 7:30 pm, 8:00 pm, 8:30 pm, 9:00 pm, 9:30 pm
Go to a baseball game
We have previously written about how much Koreans love baseball, and watching a baseball game in Korea is like no other experience. Here, the fans go wild, and instead of the laid-back energy that you may be used to from Koreans, be prepared for that mindset to change.

Most people choose to stand the entire time, and everyone participates in singing and cheering for their team. There is even a hype team for each team, including a centre hype man and dancers. While you’re there, don’t forget to try the iconic stadium food, including the beer and chicken cup. This ingenious invention includes a cup of beer at the base and a circular food holder for fried chicken and fries around the straw.
Baseball season in Korea runs from April to October. You can buy Korean baseball tickets from Interpark or specific team websites. You can also buy tickets at the stadium before the game, which I recommend if you don’t speak any Korean. Just be sure to show up early to make sure they aren’t sold out.
