Actor Byeon Woo Seok took his newfound stardom to the next level as he hosted his first-ever Asia fan meeting tour "SUMMER LETTER" starting in Taipei! On June 6, 2024, actor Byeon Woo Seok left Incheon Airport for Taipei, Taiwan for his first-ever Asia fan meeting tour which was scheduled for June 8, 2024 , entitled "SUMMER LETTER" . Taiwanese fans flooded Taoyuan International Airport and eagerly awaited his entry into their country! You can check out his full airport entrance video here! Byeon Woo Seok happily waved to fans and provided some "fan service" by posing with a "heart" before exiting the airport. According to local reports, some 1,000 fans arrived as early as 4 AM local time to settle in their spots to see the actor's arrival at noon local time. Koreans live in a very competitive society. Not only are Korean teens/young adults constantly competing with each other for the best grades or jobs they are also pressured to fit in with their peers. This includes using the latest gadgets, driving the latest cars, and let's not forget, buying luxurious items just because their idols have them! We dig into why young Koreans are obsessively resorting to these expensive goods in order to fit in! Young adults in Korea believe that if they can be accepted by their peers and move with the trend, this would enable them to get accepted in society in terms of a better job and social status. There have been issues where young adults have been bullied in school because of what they wear. Therefore, in order to avoid bullying and confrontation, many Korean teens will beg their parents to buy expensive trendy items for them to wear/bring to school. This issue rose when K-pop idols began to be appointed as brand ambassadors to global fashion brands. Korean mothers were bombarded with pleas from their children to purchase these items. But it is really hard to argue with the results from a marketing point. For instance, after Dior made Jimin their first Asian global Ambassador, their stock price rose to an all-time high. The standing issue about buying luxury brands is not because young adults need them but because it is the latest trend and has been worn by their idols. They are not phased by the costs of these items. Also, it helps them fit in with their peers at school. The 2024 Hanteo Music Awards became a hot topic for multiple reasons. While the lineup was star-studded, the number of bizarre incidents allegedly occurring was even more of a spectacle than the show itself, let's find out why! Now if you have not already heard, one crazed fan threw "pooped-filled" pants on stage to the K-pop idols who were seen holding their noses on February 18th, 2024. The poop incident was one of the standouts of the night. It was earlier reported that a fan had pooped their pants in the standing area. According to reports, they ended up removing their pants for the act. A netizen surfaced on Twitter to apologize for the matter, but they turned out to be a fake. The poop incident is very much real, however, as many attendees verified it with photos that were posted on social media. Several videos surfaced and caused much confusion among idols and fans alike! Perhaps it was for attention or they really disliked the performances? Like me, I was totally shocked to hear that a fan would do such a thing at an event like this! South Korea has officially announced a mourning period for the victims and families due to the tragedy in Itaewon that happened on Saturday, October 29 around 22:00 KST. President Yoon Suk Yeol announced in a press conference on Sunday that the Seoul crowd crush resulted in over 150 casualties and at least 82 people injured. The period of national mourning will go from Sunday, October 30 until Saturday, November 5. Numerous K-pop and fashion events scheduled to happen this week were either canceled or delayed in respect for those who lost their lives. One of the biggest K-pop festivals, the 2022 Busan One Asia Festival, scheduled for October 30 was also canceled. Acts like Brave Girls, MAMAMOO , and LE SSERAFIM were scheduled to perform. Fashion house, Gucci, was originally scheduled to have their “Cosmognie” collection at Gyeongbokgung Palace on November 1, but announced that the show is now canceled. They took to social media to make the announcement stating: " We send our deepest condolences to the families and friends of all those who have been affected by the tragedy in Itaewon, Seoul, South Korea." K-pop entertainment company SM Entertainment, deleted all announcements for their “SMTOWN WONDERLAND 2022” Halloween party that was planned for Oct. 30 and would have featured a live stream and red carpet event to feature its artists in costume. The management company is home to powerhouse acts such as Super Junior , Girls' Generation , NCT , and Aespa . Multiple tv appearances, live-streams, fan events, video premieres have all been canceled throughout the Korean entertainment industry for at least the up-coming week. In the 2024 Year of the Wood Dragon, the Korean Lunar New Year in Seoul falls on Saturday, February 10th with public holiday dates stretching from Friday, February 9th to Sunday, February 11th, which means that mostly all Koreans will have days off for this period. We break down some awesome must-do Seollal (Korean Lunar New Year) activities that your wallet will thank you for! Let's check out these five things to do! Whether you are in Seoul for Seollal this year or thinking about coming to a city outside of Seoul, there are plenty of things to see and do! I personally think it's great to stay in Seoul for Seollal as it's fairly quiet which can make it a fun experience to go sightseeing without the horrendous crowds. Also, if you are thinking about leaving the big city, you WILL get stuck in traffic, because most people head back to their hometowns to reunite with their families. Let's check out the things you should see, while you're in Seoul! 1. GYEONGBOKGUNG PALACE & OTHER HISTORICAL SITES Major royal palaces like Gyeongbokgung   and traditional tombs like Jongmyo Shrine will stay open for Lunar New Year in Seoul. Best of all, admission to all sites is free! Now, I think this is one of the most perfect times of year to visit, as usually these sites are very crowded with locals and tourists alike! Gyeongbokgung promises to be a hub of activity during Seollal in Seoul. If you haven’t had a chance to stop into one of these majestic places yet, this is the perfect time to go to experience cultural performances, traditional folk games, and other fun activities and of course, it will allow you to wear "Hanbok" which means (Korean traditional clothes). 2. Theme Parks Now, With 35 million Koreans on the road home for the Lunar New Year, theme parks like Lotte World , Everland, and Seoul Land can be a little quieter than normal. Best of all, there are Seollal activities, parades, and light shows to enjoy at a discounted price. If you are staying in Seoul, and don't have time to travel to Everland (which is located South of Seoul) then perhaps Lotte World Adventure is one of the easiest theme parks to access in Seoul, accessible by subway at Jamsil Station. There are both indoor and outdoor areas at Lotte World, so it’s easy to stay warm even during the depths of winter. 3. SKIING, SNOWBOARDING, AND SLEDDING RESORTS The Lunar New Year in Seoul usually falls in January or February. With the most snowfall of the year, these months also happen to be the best for skiing, snowboarding, and sledding in Korea. Phoenix Park located in Gangwon-do is a perfect family-friendly Ski Resort that offers ski lessons & snowboarding lessons for first-timers or to refresh your memory. As for me, I went here during the Christmas holidays and had a fantastic time! There are other resorts in the area, such as Eden Valley & High1 Ski Resort. Visiting a Ski resort also allows you to take a staycation outside of the city over the Seollal period, before the hustle of a busy work schedule returns. 4. Gwangali Drone Show in Busan On February 10th —  There will be a Lunar New Year Special performance with 2,000 drones at 7 P.M on Gwangali Beach  in Busan . This really is not to be missed! With locals and tourists gathering here to watch the drone show, it leads to an impressive experience and great photos too! Gwangali boasts a wide variety of Korean and Western restaurants as well as many bars, so you will never be short of places to ring in the Lunar New Year. Looking out over the ocean you will also see many boats, soaking in this relaxed atmosphere. 5. Spend a night at a Korean Temple Imagine swapping the hustle of finding something to do within the city on a Public Holiday like Seollal for a Temple Stay in South Korea – it’s not just a retreat; it’s a cultural adventure! There are many temples in Korea, which offer special temple stay programs for foreigners  that let you dive into traditional rituals while soaking in the serene vibes and beautiful landscapes that most temples here are surrounded by. For me, it has been something that I have wanted to try for a long time.
