  • Why So Ji-sub's 'Agent Kim Reactivated' Could Be the Action Thriller Event of Summer 2026!

The countdown is officially on. After months of anticipation, veteran superstar So Ji-sub is returning to the action genre with Agent Kim Reactivated, the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of the hit webtoon Kimbujang. Set to premiere on June 26, 2026, the series is already generating major buzz among K-drama fans, webtoon readers, and action-thriller enthusiasts alike. So Ji-sub returns as Manager Kim in Agent Kim Reactivated (SBS) But what exactly makes this project one of the most exciting Korean releases of the year? Let's break down why Agent Kim Reactivated deserves a spot at the top of your watchlist! What is Agent Kim Reactivated About? Agent Kim Reactivated is an action-thriller based on the popular webtoon Kimbujang. The series stars So Ji-sub as Manager Kim, a seemingly ordinary family man working at a small savings bank who is forced to reveal his hidden past as an elite secret agent when a dangerous threat puts his loved ones in jeopardy. Combining intense fight sequences, espionage, and emotional family drama, the story follows Kim as he returns to the world of covert operations to protect those closest to him. 1. So Ji-sub Was Born to Play This Character Few actors in Korea can combine quiet charisma, emotional depth, and believable action like So Ji-sub. Over the years, he has built a reputation for portraying characters who speak less but command attention whenever they enter a room. Whether in crime thrillers, noir dramas, or blockbuster films, he brings a unique intensity that makes audiences instantly invest in his characters. The resemblance is undeniable (Naver Webtoon/SBS) That makes him an ideal choice for Agent Kim—a seemingly ordinary middle-aged father with a dangerous past. Fans of the original webtoon know that Kim's greatest weapon isn't just his fighting ability. He determines to protect the people he loves at all costs. So Ji-sub's ability to portray both vulnerability and ruthless resolve could elevate the character beyond the source material. Simply put: this role feels tailor-made for him. 2. The Webtoon Already Has a Massive Built-In Fanbase Manager Kim (Kimbujang) webtoon written by Jeong Jong-taek and Toy (Naver Webtoon) Kimbujang isn't just another action webtoon. The series became a phenomenon thanks to its unique blend of family drama, undercover espionage, and explosive action sequences. Readers fell in love with the story's central premise: What happens when the world's most dangerous operative tries to live a normal life? The answer is chaos. As soon as Kim's peaceful existence is threatened, his hidden skills come roaring back into action, creating a thrilling mix of emotional stakes and jaw-dropping fight scenes. With millions of webtoon readers already invested in the story, the adaptation enters with a passionate audience eager to see their favorite moments brought to life. 3. The "Retired Assassin Returns" Formula Never Gets Old There is a reason audiences continue to flock to stories like John Wick, Taken, and countless spy thrillers. People love watching a legendary fighter pulled back into a world they tried to leave behind. Agent Kim Reactivated takes that familiar formula and gives it a uniquely Korean twist. Instead of focusing solely on revenge, the story emphasizes family, sacrifice, and the emotional consequences of living a double life. The result is a thriller that promises both adrenaline and heart—a combination that often creates the most memorable action dramas. 4. Korean Action Productions Have Reached a New Level So Ji-sub in the 2025 revenge drama Mercy for None (Netflix) Over the past few years, Korean action content has become increasingly ambitious, including So Ji-sub's previous drama, Mercy for None, which premiered last year in June 2025. From cinematic fight choreography to Hollywood-level production values, Korean studios are proving they can compete on a global scale. Viewers now expect: Realistic hand-to-hand combat High-speed chase sequences Tactical gunfights Elaborate stunt work Emotional storytelling alongside action Early promotional materials suggest Agent Kim Reactivated is aiming to deliver exactly that. If the production fully embraces the intensity of the original webtoon, audiences could be in for some of the most exciting action sequences seen in a Korean drama this year! 5. It Arrives at the Perfect Time Summer is traditionally one of the most competitive entertainment seasons. Viewers are looking for binge-worthy series capable of dominating social media conversations. Agent Kim Reactivated arrives with several advantages: A beloved webtoon source material One of Korea's most respected actors A proven action-thriller concept Strong crossover appeal for international audiences That combination creates the perfect recipe for viral success. If the first few episodes deliver, expect clips, fight scenes, and character moments to spread rapidly across social media platforms throughout the summer. 6. The Emotional Core Could Be the Show's Secret Weapon Action alone doesn't create lasting hits. What separates good thrillers from great ones is emotional investment. The heart of Kimbujang has always been its family story. At its core, this isn't merely about a former operative defeating enemies. It's about a father willing to risk everything for the people he loves. Seo Su-min plays Manager Kim's daughter, Kim Min-ji (SBS) That emotional foundation gives every fight scene greater meaning. Every confrontation carries personal stakes. If the adaptation captures that aspect successfully, viewers may find themselves equally invested in the characters' relationships as they are in the action. Could This Be So Ji-sub's Biggest Action Comeback Yet? The ingredients are certainly there. A beloved webtoon. A proven action premise. A talented cast. And most importantly, an actor perfectly suited for the lead role. Son Na-eun plays Sang-ah, Manager Kim's work colleague with a hidden secret (SBS) For longtime fans of So Ji-sub, Agent Kim Reactivated represents an exciting return to the kind of intense, physically demanding role that helped make him a star. For webtoon readers, it's a chance to see one of Korea's most beloved action stories come to life. And for everyone else, it could be the breakout thriller that dominates summer 2026. One thing is certain: When Agent Kim comes out of retirement on June 26 on SBS at 9:50 PM KST, K-drama fans everywhere will be watching. Are you excited about So Ji-sub's new action thriller? • ADOR 1, NewJeans 0: Seoul Central Court Rules in Favor of ADOR Amid NewJeans Contract Dispute

Legal victory for ADOR as Seoul Central District Court rules on NewJeans contract dispute. We have all the details on this ongoing scandal! Image: New Jeans - Photo: https://altselection.ouest-france.fr What's the latest in this ongoing K-pop scandal? The contract dispute between record label ADOR and NewJeans has been ongoing for months now, and the Dojeon Media team has kept you informed of the latest scandalous events throughout. The latest on the contract dispute between ADOR and the girl group NewJeans is that the Seoul Central District Court affirmed the validity of NewJeans’ exclusive contract with the agency. According to a report by The Chosun Daily , the court specifically stated it was “difficult to recognize that ADOR violated any contractual obligations” through the dismissal of former CEO Min Hee-jin . The ruling further mandated that NewJeans is responsible for covering the litigation costs, which are expected to run into the hundreds of millions of Korean won. Do you think this ruling is fair? Or does ADOR have so much influence, it's helped them win the battle? Poor management The court ruling also mentioned that the dismissal of former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin alone did not solely create the gap in management, which led to the poor management strategies when it came to NewJeans . The court went on to mention that ADOR never once lacked plans or capability in their duties following the Min Hee-jin scandal, and the court clarified that the exclusive contract did not guarantee Min Hee-jin's tenure in the label, meaning that she could have departed or been fired at any time, and would have had nothing to do with New Jeans. Actually, NewJeans members' personal trust in Min Hee-jin was not a "significant contractual obligation" requiring continued leadership by Min Hee-jin. The ruling concluded that ADOR was capable of fulfilling its obligations, citing the agency’s ongoing work on album releases, fan meetings, and world tour planning. Fan response Rightly so, fans have reacted to the latest news of the court ruling with a mix of emotions. Some fans have expressed their relief that this ongoing and very public ordeal is now close to being over, while others have expressed their concerns over the future of NewJeans. Awkward working relationship Imagine the intense drama and awkward moments in the company lifts while working together again. ADOR and NewJeans have to legally be with the agency; however, the public drama brought on mainly by the behavior of NewJeans and the lack of trust between both sides is going to lead to some awkward interaction. Picture this: every interaction, from recording sessions to planning meetings, will be strained by the members’ appeal and the management’s need to perform its duties under the threat of scrutiny and continued bad faith between both sides, especially since NewJeans have to pay for the court costs! Final thoughts While the court may have ruled in favor of ADOR as opposed to NewJeans, here at Dojeon Media, we believe that it was always going to play out like this, since money and power talk in what can be described as a 'still corrupt' system in Korea. Although NewJeans are very talented, we are expecting to see their public image slowly dwindle in the coming year, mainly due to their "completely broken" trust in the relationship between the group itself and ADOR, particularly since the group's legal team immediately announced an appeal. There is also lingering worry about the group’s creative future and artistic freedom moving forward without former CEO Min Hee-jin. Comment below and let the Dojeon team know your thoughts on this trending K-pop scandal. #ADOR #NewJeans #ContractDispute #KPopLaw #SeoulCentralDistrictCourt #LegalRuling
