The East-meets-West R&B duet delivers an intimate, yet interstellar sound! We dissect the reason why Jisoo's new single featuring Zayn Malik, "Eyes Closed", broke the internet!

Korea and the UK have some amazing artists, and there is nothing more special than when two of the industry powerhouses decide to collaborate.
Coming from the UK, the interest in K-pop has grown significantly over the years, and being a BLACKPINK fan myself, as well as a One Direction fan back in the day, I was surprised to hear that Jisoo and Zayn Malik decided to team up on this single.
The single has quickly gained fan support since its release, though some music industry experts are calling out the heavy use of vocal filters, which sound too generic. That said, the song and music video do have some stunning visuals, and it's easy to listen to, which makes it a major K-pop hit in the industry.
Concept Breakdown
"Eyes Closed" decides to ignore the past heartbreaks and focus on finding a new relationship with the hope of "blind faith", which is a common theme within Gen-Z, making it relatable to many fans.
Throughout the track, there are strong R&B-inspired lines and concepts that the Dojeon team believes work really well, and they are easy to sing along to. "The past can't hurt us if we don't look," which suggests committing to the present moment without any hesitation.
The black ambience throughout the music video helps to focus on the future, with the strong influence of futuristic spaceships and pods. It may also resonate with the emotional distance, which some of us put ourselves in at some point in our lives. This music video is truly an emotional rollercoaster and shows the strong connection between Eastern and Western music.
