The Headphones Scene That Broke K-Drama Twitter
At the end of episode 1, Do Ji-ui (Lee Jae-wook) is overwhelmed with emotion by a traumatic experience with the ocean while traveling to Pyeongdong-do, a remote island, to complete his mandatory military service as a public health doctor. In a simple, gentle, and surprising intimate first encounter, Yook Ha-ri (Shin Ye-eun), a nurse from a university hospital, quietly places headphones over Ji-ui's ears, grounding him during a panic-filled moment.
Their Chaotic First Ferry Ride
Before each realizes they'll be working together, they share a K-dramaland mandatory first awkward moment on their ferry ride to Pyeongdong-do. Ha-ri's carefree demeanor clashes hard with Ji-ui's stressed-out, city-doctor energy, creating the opposites attract energy that fans love! His funny hallucination scene really took us out as ferry onlookers gasped in shock at his crazy actions!

When Ha-ri Notices His Fear Before Anyone Else
While most island residents see Ji-ui as a capable doctor, Ha-ri quickly notices his emotional baggage (see scene 1). She sees his discomfort around water and carries on without making a big fuss. Ji-ui's fear of boats/ferries is clearly noticeable in many of the scenes where he has to get off the island to accompany patients who need more help at a mainland hospital.

The "Proud Smile" After His First Big Save
After Ji-ui successfully saves a fisherman during a medical emergency, Ha-ri's reaction says more than words. Instead of being impressed by his credentials (he's a plastic surgeon in real life), she is genuinely proud of him as a person. In this small moment, viewers have begun shipping them harder after this moment.

Their Island Walks
When the action dies down, this drama speaks volumes. During their quiet nights, the characters often take a stroll around the island and oftentimes, "bump" into each other at the local convenience store. Nothing overly romantic happens, but fans can see their chemistry working during these precious scenes. We can only hope it heats up soon, as the last episode suggests!

Doctor on the Edge airs every Monday and Tuesday at 10 PM KST on ENA/Disney+. The series is projected to have 12 episodes.
Final Thoughts
Unlike many recent K-drama couples that start with dramatic attraction or friends-to-enemies conflict, Ji-ui and Ha-ri feel refreshingly natural. Their relationship is built upon comfort, trust, and emotional healing rather than grand gestures. The remote island concept also offers a cozy, intimate atmosphere. As you can tell, the Dojeon team is loving this drama! Leave us a comment on your thoughts about this trending couple!
