Fan anticipation for a sequel


Kpop Demon Hunters has taken over global cinemas, and the fan reaction to the show has been overwhelmingly positive, despite the creators' first thoughts.


The news has sparked a massive wave of excitement on social media, with the hashtag #KpopDemonHunters2 trending globally within hours of the announcement!




The anticipation for a sequel so soon after the first film's ending is mainly due to the unresolved fate of one of the characters, Jinu, who actually left fans of the show speculating about his potential return in the second film. Fans of the show are hoping that he will be brought back in the second film, with some fans even finding the time to point out subtle visual clues in the first film as possible evidence.


If that's not all, the soundtracks in the first film have also dominated global music charts, with hits like "Soda Pop" and "Golden" being the forerunners. Some fans have also posted covers of themselves singing these on social media, alongside dance challenges and fan art, which have in turn created more hype around the movie.




As a result, the film's directors noted that the success of the music and the viral nature of fan-created content contributed to the film’s overall popularity. This could also be due to the positive representation that was used in the film's storyline.


Korean Culture has taken off in recent years globally, and this is seen as a culmination of the growing popularity of Korean pop culture, and fans are proud to see it being embraced in mainstream Western media. That, mixed with K-pop fandoms' prosperity and growth, it has become a mecca for content creation, showing fan dedication.




Limited Edition theatrical event


Following its success, Netflix has now added the new sing-along version of the animation to its library where it is now available to stream worldwide. In a limited theatrical event, a sing-along version of the movie was released on 23 August and 24 August, leading to 1,000 sold-out screenings across the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.



The Experience and Atmosphere


Interactive aspects unlike a typical movie, the screenings included on-screen lyrics, turning the theatre into a concert-like experience. This allows fans to enjoy cheering and seeing a long to their favorite songs at the top of their lungs just like they would in a concert setting which is one of the main selling points for this brand new show!
