You've been performing in K-pop and Korean-related events since 2014. What are some of the most memorable experiences you've had?
My most memorable was my very first Stage (K-pop) appearance at a VOX Entertainment launch in SM Megamall way back in 2014. During our months of training and preparations, I was just enjoying the feeling because I am now experiencing what my favorite K-pop idols are experiencing in their training. It was hard but it's fun and I learned a lot from this training. When “D-day" came, I felt very anxious, like I couldn't breathe seeing such a big crowd but that nervousness faded away as I started performing, and felt a sense of accomplishment when I finished performing.
My next memorable experience being on the K-pop stage just happened in 2022. Imagine from 2016 until that time 2022 I have been to a lot and performed a lot of stages with such huge crowds but this memorable stage performance is when my parents and sisters are included in that crowd for the first time. I felt again the anxiousness that I felt the first time I performed. I didn't know if they’d like my performance or if I could make them proud but seeing them clap after I performed made me happy and felt complete as a performer because finally, my family was able to see me perform live. Shout out to my Mama, Papa, and my whole family! I Love Y’all!
What are some of the biggest challenges you've faced in your career so far? How did you overcome them?
As someone living and settled in Batangas, one of the biggest challenges I've faced is my everyday travel from Batangas to the event venues, because I have to allocate additional time so I won't be late on my call times and also one of the challenges is my schedule. I currently have a full-time job as a US-based provider service representative (work from home here in Batangas) and I work at night and most of the events are on weekends. With that being said, I don't have time to sleep because after work at 5 am, I have to travel from Batangas to event venues and it will take me 4-5 hours to reach.
When the organizer of the event reached out to us and wanted to have us, at that point I couldn't believe that this was indeed happening. Because who am I to be invited to this big event outside Asia? We are not yet at the same level as what SB19 achieved. That’s what was running through my mind the whole time. I even felt that they were some kind of scammer HAHA not until the event organizer sent us a formal letter of invitation with our flight and hotel information.
How did it feel to represent the Philippines and South Korea at such a large event?
So surreal. Not even in my dream that I would someday represent the Philippines and South Korea at this big event overseas. This makes me proud of who I am right now as someone who’s been bullied during my high school days and now I am being clapped and making my countrymen proud.
