This event is typically spread over three days, including the day before and after the New Year's Day which this year falls on January 29, 2025 . Usually during this time the big cities are left empty, and people head home to spend time with their families, playing traditional games, eating delicious festive dishes like tteokguk (a rice cake soup) and enjoying unique family and cultural events. Why should I visit Korea during Lunar New Year? Another great reason why in my opinion is one of the best times to visit, is because the tourist attractions are often less crowded, which means that you can enjoy a more relaxed pace while exploring beautiful landscapes and historical sites ! It is also a perfect time for immersing yourself in rich Korean traditions, such as folk games, hanbok wearing and performances! So what are you waiting for? So why do we get a six day holiday this year? This year the Korean government has announced that the Lunar New Year will be a six day holiday, with January 27 being a temporary holiday in the attempt to encourage more consumer spending. The full dates will be from January 27 - January 30, 2025. During this time the roads, trains, buses are likely to be very busy and the public transport options will be sold out as it is peak time. So it will be a lot quieter in Seoul during this time, with some smaller, family run restaurants and businesses shut down for the holiday. However, you won't have trouble finding places to eat or shop though, as major malls and chains and popular tourist sites are mostly open to the public. In the run up to the holidays Like any major event, traditional markets are usually packed with people who are shopping for food and gifts to take back to their hometowns. Public transport options are booked up in advance, and it is definitely the chaos before the calm. Once all of the preparations are complete, it will feel like a ghost town, and you will find yourself feeling surprised by eerily empty subways, unhurried sidewalks and silent cafes. The new Netflix/Wavve teenage thriller drama Bitch x Rich just released and we're here to cover all the angles! Should you skip it or stream it? We give you the details! Read on! Synopsis Kim Hye In (Lee Eun Saem Cheer Up 2022) is a high school student from a poor family background. She lives with her father who seems to always be injured and cannot work so she is left to take care of herself. As a result, she works part-time at a convenience store to make ends meet. Hye In hates the fact that she is poor and finds ways to make extra money, including tutoring a rich girl, Kang Na Yeon (Ko Joo Hee Woori The Virgin 2022). Hye In takes advantage of Na Yeon's expensive life and takes photos of herself in Na Yeon's clothes and house while posting them on social media. After exposing Hye In about her fake lifestyle, Na Yeon applies to the prestigious Cheongdam International High School, which all of South Korea's elite youth attend. Hye In takes revenge by dumping water on Na Yeon during her interview causing a chain reaction of bad events to happen. That night, after witnessing a student falling off the roof of Cheongdam International High School, Hye In is met with a proposal by the school's dean. In exchange for keeping her mouth shut, she is admitted into the prestigious school. And that is where the fun begins! Skip It or Stream It? Other than a vulgar title, Bitch x Rich sometimes tries to fast-forward the plot by quickly moving Hye In in and out of situations. After reporting what she witness to the police, we have no idea how the school's dean found out it was her and why he decided to act that way. On the other hand, Lee Eun Saem and Red Velvet's Yeri provide a satisfying back-and-forth rivalry that we can't wait to see will happen! The acting is quite good and with good character development, this drama has potential. With only ten episodes (as stated before it streamed), we're not sure if the story will be able to unfold naturally or if will it be quickly packed and finished before the audience has had time to digest what is going on. Only after episode four has Hye In been admitted to the school and with six episodes left, will she have the time to create relationships (good and bad) with the students there? Overall, Bitch x Rich has the potential to be a really good teenage drama. If you have extra time from other dramas we have recommended, it is not a bad watch! Korean summers are notoriously known to be hot, especially in Daegu cordially nicknamed "Daefrica" (Daegu and Africa combined). We show you the best way to beat the heat during the upcoming sweltering months! There is nothing better than jumping into a refreshingly cold swimming pool on a hot and humid summer day. Recently, I went to Daegu's famous Spa Valley Waterpark to check out their half-price June special before schools are out for the summer break. A great thing I found about this waterpark compared to previous years that I have been is that they have recently spent the winter months renovating the park, changing rooms, and car park area, making it much more comfortable to visit! Upon entering the park, you can purchase your tickets and proceed to the shoe storage lockers before heading to the changing rooms. Inside the changing rooms are Korean-styled saunas and hot pools which were great after spending the day in the park, and both changing rooms are separate for men and women. The waterpark has a lazy river, a wave pool, a swimming pool, and water slides/rides including a children's pool. At certain times of the day one of the swimming pools had a foam party! Inside there were also different temperature-controlled saunas and steam rooms which were new this year. I was advised to wear a life jacket in the wave pool and lazy river, so the rental cost was 7,000 KRW (5.00 USD) for the day. Although I love water rides, my favorite has got to be floating around in the lazy river, since it has been so hot and humid recently! I do recommend arriving at the park early in the day. Yes, there will still be a line to enter the park, but it means that if you beat the rush you can get on some of the rides before it peaks to capacity towards mid-morning, and of course, beat the heat!
