- Netflix’s “Beyond the Bar” Shows the True Role of a Litigation Lawyer in Courtroom Battles! [Litigation 101 Explained!]
Beyond the Bar (Credits: JTBC) Beyond the Bar follows a rookie attorney who joins a top law firm and learns real courtroom work from a sharp senior partner. It is a legal workplace story with weekly cases, careful strategy, and quiet lessons about ethics and growth. The drama keeps the focus on people. Each case is about harm, healing, and the choices lawyers make for clients. You see how a team prepares filings, plans questions, and balances truth, risk, and results. What the Drama Is About A young lawyer, Kang Hyo-min, joins Yullim Law Firm and is paired with partner Yoon Seok-hoon. Their clash of styles, idealism vs. icy precision, drives the courtroom strategy and the office politics around it. The production team has said the goal is to tell “healing” case stories grounded in people’s wounds, not just verdicts. Recent episodes show a wide range of disputes: one weekend focused on a painter accused of plagiarism and a rookie’s first solo defense, while another centered on assault allegations and the ethical tightrope inside firms. Beyond the Bar (Credits: JTBC) Litigation Lawyer 101: What the Show Gets Right 1 ) What does a litigation lawyer do in Korean court cases? A litigation lawyer represents clients in disputes that go to court. In the drama, the litigation partner (Seok-hoon) shows the role clearly: setting the case strategy, signing official documents, arguing in hearings, and protecting the client’s interests. Junior lawyers (Hyo-min, Jin-woo, Min-jeong) support this work by drafting briefs, preparing witnesses, handling smaller motions, and gaining experience on active cases. This teamwork exemplifies how litigation lawyers strike a balance between leadership and training within a firm. 2) Why do the courtroom arguments look different from US dramas? Litigation lawyers in Korea work under a judge-led system. Civil cases do not use juries; instead, professional judges question both parties, manage the evidence, and decide on the outcome. That is why hearings in the show feel very judge-driven compared to American courtroom dramas. Because Korea’s civil procedure has limited discovery, litigation lawyers cannot do wide-ranging depositions like in the US. Instead, they focus on strong written submissions, sharp questioning, and strategic presentations at each short court session. 3) How do litigation lawyers handle criminal cases? In criminal trials, Korea sometimes allows citizen participation, where ordinary people sit as a jury-like panel. However, the final decision is still made by judges. In these cases, litigation lawyers prepare both for judge-led questioning and for presenting arguments to lay participants. The show mainly highlights law-firm litigation work, so most hearings are bench-style, giving viewers a closer look at how litigation lawyers operate in real Korean courts. Beyond the Bar (Credits: JTBC) How Beyond the Bar Teaches Without a Lecture Case framing: Episodes start with a fact problem (e.g., plagiarism, assault), then cut to strategy—what can we prove, what is admissible, and what relief to seek. That mirrors how real teams triage a file. Mentor-rookie relationship: The partner pushes the junior to test arguments and meet deadlines. It’s tough love, but it reflects how training happens in busy litigation teams. Ethics under pressure: Conflicts, prior contacts with opposing counsel, and client management are ongoing hurdles. The nightclub connection subplot in Episode 6 is a neat way of showing why lawyers document and disclose. Beyond the Bar (Credits: JTBC) Cast and Characters Lee Jin-wook as Yoon Seok-hoon: a cool, risk-taking litigation partner who leads the firm’s courtroom team. Jung Chae-yeon as Kang Hyo-min: a principled rookie lawyer with strong convictions. Lee Hak-joo as Lee Jin-woo: an easygoing associate who reads the room and steadies the team. Jeon Hye-bin as Heo Min-jeong: a later-in-life associate who brings empathy and grit. Where and When to Watch The drama is currently airing on SBS in South Korea and is also available for streaming on Netflix for international viewers. New episodes Saturdays and Sundays at 10:40 PM KST on JTBC; they drop on Netflix on the same days. Beyond the Bar premiered in August 2024 and is set to have 16 episodes. At present, 6 episodes are already out, and fans are hooked on the unfolding story. Why You Should Watch? If you like workplace growth stories with real legal texture, which are short, judge-led hearings, tight filings, and strategy sparring, then this show is right up your alley. Netflix’s weekly drop makes it easy to keep up with the cases as they air in Korea. Which role pulls you in more, the razor-sharp partner or the rookie who learns by doing, and why? #BeyondtheBar #LeeJinWook #JungChaeYeon #litigation #explaination

- 6 Enemies-to-Lovers K-Dramas That Turned Rivalry Into Romance
The official poster for Doctor Slump (Image via JTBC). What’s a K-drama without a dash of enmity, a clash of ideas and ideals, a fiery war of words, endless bickering, and of course—the ultimate “ we can’t stand each other, but secretly we’re obsessed” tension? Over the years, Korea has blessed us with some of the most iconic enemies-to-lovers stories, complete with gorgeous leads who collide under unusual circumstances. Their eyes lock, sparks fly, hearts flutter, and an electrifying chemistry ignites—all while they pretend to despise each other. Here are six unforgettable K-dramas that turned rivalry into romance and hate into destiny. 1. Love To Hate You (2023) An official still from Love to Hate You (Image via Netflix). This fiery rom-com dives into the explosive chemistry between top movie star Nam Kang-ho ( Yoo Teo ), famous for his swoon-worthy romantic roles, and Yeo Mi-ran ( Kim Ok-vin ), a bold, free-spirited lawyer who despises sexist men and has no interest in serious relationships. When her job forces her into the world of celebrity scandals—particularly Kang-ho’s—the two are thrown together in a clash of egos, ideals, and undeniable attraction. With just 10 fast-paced episodes, Love To Hate You is a binge-worthy weekend watch, brimming with sharp banter, fiery tension, and unforgettable sparks. 2. Our Beloved Summer (2021) An official still from Our Beloved Summer (Image via SBS). Some rivalries last years, and some romances last a lifetime—and Our Beloved Summer beautifully captures both. Choi Ung ( Choi Woo-sik ) and Kook Yeon-soo ( Kim Da-mi ) were once high school sweethearts who swore never to cross paths again. But when an old documentary featuring their bickering teenage selves suddenly goes viral, the two exes are unwillingly thrown back into each other’s orbit. What begins as lingering resentment slowly unravels into something tender, as old wounds, first love, and unshakable chemistry resurface. With its blend of bittersweet nostalgia, youthful summers, and heartfelt romance, this drama feels like a love letter to growing up—and growing back together. 3. So I Married an Anti-Fan (2021) An official poster for So I Married An Anti Fan (Image via Amazon Prime Video) What happens when Korea’s hottest star is forced to live under the same roof as his biggest hater? Sparks, chaos, and unexpected romance. Hoo Joon ( Choi Tae-joon ), a top singer, collides with Lee Geun-young ( Choi Soo-young ), a magazine reporter who loses her job after a disastrous run-in with him—one that ends with her throwing up on the star himself. Convinced he’s to blame, she stages a protest outside his agency and quickly earns the title of his “anti-fan.” A reality show producer sees the drama unfold and decides to capitalize on it, bringing the two together for a program where a celebrity and his anti-fan must live together. Filled with classic K-drama tropes, sharp banter, and a sweet-but-spicy romance, So I Married an Anti-Fan is a delightful guilty pleasure. 4. Because This Is My First Life (2017) A still from Because This is my First Life (Image via tvN). Enemies-to-lovers stories often feature fiery, outspoken leads—but Because This Is My First Life takes a refreshing turn by pairing two introverted, emotionally complex characters. Nam Se-hee ( Lee Min-ki ), a socially awkward IT professional, enters into a marriage of convenience with Yoon Ji-ho ( Jung So-min ), a struggling writer desperate for both a home and stability. What begins as an uncomfortable arrangement laced with quiet misunderstandings gradually evolves into something tender as they discover they share similar struggles with societal expectations and family pressures. A slow-burning romance that unfolds gently yet deeply, this drama is charming, thoughtful, and quietly unforgettable. 5. Doctor Slump (2024) The official poster for Doctor Slump (Image via JTBC). It’s refreshing to see two high school rivals cross paths again as adults, proving that enemies-to-lovers isn’t just a playful trope but can blossom into a story of lifelong companionship. Yeo Jeong-woo ( Park Hyung-sik ) and Nam Ha-neul ( Park Shin-hye ), once fierce academic competitors, find themselves reconnecting years later. What begins as a clash rooted in old rivalries gradually turns into mutual support as they help each other navigate life’s pressures, rediscover friendship, and slowly fall in love. Rather than relying on fiery tension, Doctor Slump stands out for its warmth, tenderness, and the genuine bond between two people who evolve from rivals into partners. 6. Crash Course in Romance (2023) A still from Crash Course in Romance (Image via tvN). Crash Course in Romance is delightfully deceptive—in the best way. At first glance, it plays like a classic enemies-to-lovers tale, centering on Nam Haeng-seon ( Jeon Do-yeon ), a spirited banchan (side-dish) shop owner, and Choi Chi-yeol ( Jung Kyung-ho ), the star instructor at the elite Pride Academy. Their clashes aren’t driven by ego but by the fierce instinct to protect the people they care about most. While the drama delivers plenty of playful banter and sparks, it goes deeper than the usual rom-com, blending tender moments of vulnerability with themes of family, sacrifice, and second chances. Both heartwarming and entertaining, Crash Course in Romance proves that love can bloom in the most unexpected places. Which is your favorite enemies-to-lovers K-drama? - 6 Fictional K-Drama Men Who Set the Bar Way Too High
Byeon Woo-seok in a still from Lovely Runner (Image via tvN). K-drama green flag men have set the bar so high that dating apps now feel hopeless. These fictional guys are kind, respectful, and deeply love their partners. They treat them like queens, all while being incredibly handsome—with perfect skin, sharp features, and irresistible charm. Most importantly, they feel completely out of reach. They’re like dream men from a romance novel—imagine someone with Chuck Bass looks and golden retriever energy, ready to cross oceans for love. Here are six K-drama men who aren’t just green flags—they’re whole green forests. 1. Yang Gwan-sik (Park Bo-gum) – When Life Gives You Tangerines The official poster for When Life Gives You Tangerines (Image via Netflix). Arguably the standout K-drama of the year so far, When Life Gives You Tangerines gives us Yang Gwan-sik, played by Park Bo-gum —a male lead so ideal, it’s hard to imagine anyone else measuring up. Gwan-sik is kind, supportive, and deeply respectful of his wife, Oh Ae-sun ( IU ), even standing up to his toxic family to protect her. He also sets a strong example for his children, showing his son and daughter that true strength lies in empathy and equality. Through him, the show sends a powerful message: patriarchy can end when men choose to stand against it. 2. Yu Eun-ho (Lee Jun-hyuk) – Love Scout The official poster for Love Scout (Image via SBS.) Love Scout refreshes the classic CEO-secretary romance trope by flipping it on its head. Instead of the usual dynamic, we get a sharp, no-nonsense female CEO, Kang Ji-yoon ( Han Ji-min ), and her capable, trusted secretary Yu Eun-ho ( Lee Jun-hyuk )—who also happens to be a devoted single father. Eun-ho is skilled and dependable in the workplace, while also being a gentle, loving dad at home. As an office romance fan, it’s refreshing to see a popular male lead take on a non-traditional role—one that doesn’t make him feel lesser next to a powerful woman, but instead shows that strength can come from humility, care, and quiet confidence. 3. Ryu Sun-jae (Byeon Woo-seok) – Lovely Runner The official poster for Lovely Runner (Image via tvN). He has it all—good looks, talent, charisma, confidence, and a massive fan following—yet Ryu Sun-jae ( Byeon Woo-seok ), a top star, feels empty inside and ultimately chooses to end his life. But everything changes when Im-sol ( Kim Hye-yoon ), a devoted fan, travels back in time to save him—and in doing so, rewrites both their destinies. While Lovely Runner is largely told from Im-sol’s perspective, Ryu Sun-jae is undeniably the emotional core of the story. Byeon Woo-seok breathes life into the idea of “loserism”—a man hopelessly and wholeheartedly in love. Through Sun-jae, the drama beautifully reminds us that vulnerability, loyalty, and emotional depth never go out of style. 4. Lee Joon-ho (Kang Tae-oh) – Extraordinary Attorney Woo A Still from Extraordinary Attorney Woo (Image via ENA). They say behind every successful man is a woman—but Lee Joon-ho ( Kang Tae-Oh ) shows us that behind every accomplished woman can be a man who loves her fully and puts her first without hesitation. As the gentle, thoughtful colleague and love interest of Woo Young-woo ( Park Eun-bin ), Joon-ho’s quiet strength and unwavering support make their romance one of the most heartwarming in K-drama history. Kind, patient, and endlessly understanding, he’s the kind of man who gives you hope that someone like him might exist in real life. Not just a green flag—he’s a whole green forest. 5. Hong Du-sik (Kim Seon-ho) – Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha The official poster for Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha (Image via tvN). It’s rare to find a man who’s not just secure but genuinely proud of his partner’s greater success—and Hong Du-sik ( Kim Seon-ho ) is exactly that. In Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha , he doesn’t just accept his girlfriend Yoon Hye-jin’s ( Shin Min-a ) accomplishments as a successful dentist—he celebrates them. One unforgettable moment is when Du-sik carves a small wooden box for Hye-jin to store her diamonds—not because he bought them for her, but because he knows she’s more than capable of buying them herself. It’s simple, selfless, and deeply beautiful. Du-sik is proof that true masculinity lies in support, not ego. 6. Hwang Yong-sik ( Kang Ha-neul ) – When the Camellia Blooms The official poster for When The Camellia Blooms (Image via KBS). One of the best age-gap romances done right, When the Camellia Blooms has only grown more beloved over time—and much of that is thanks to Kang Ha-neul’s heartfelt performance as Hwang Yong-sik. A small-town cop with sharp instincts and an even bigger heart, Yong-sik falls deeply for Oh Dong-baek ( Gong Hyo-jin ), a single mother targeted by a dangerous criminal. His love is pure, unwavering, and fiercely protective—he promises to keep her and her child safe, even if it means defying his own mother’s disapproval. Gentle, loyal, and endlessly supportive, Hwang Yong-sik has rightfully earned his place as one of our all-time favourite K-drama green flag men. Which K-drama green flag character is your favorite? - This Rooftop Dining Experience Blew Our Minds! Here’s Our Top Pick for Restaurant of the Month for August!
Elevate your summer: Seoul's best rooftop dining for unforgettable nights. Find out why this remarkable destination has made Dojeon's August number one restaurant! Image: Sweeping views of the Han River in Seoul. - Photo: Lewis Hooper My evening at Sky Lounge in the Lotte Hotel Seoul was an absolutely captivating escape, one I'll replay in my mind for ages. Nestled on the top floor, the panoramic view of Seoul transformed with every passing moment, painting the perfect, vibrant backdrop for our meal. The authentic Italian cuisine, crafted by a skilled Italian chef and proudly holding the OSPITALITA ITALIANA certification , was nothing short of divine – each bite a testament to true culinary artistry, and something that I appreciate when I have the chance to enjoy the finer things in life, which I believe is important from time to time. As the sun went down, the lounge bathed in the city's glow, making every sip of our expertly selected cocktails and fine wines feel like pure magic. It's easy to see why Sky Lounge earned its spot as Dojeon's August Restaurant of the Month; it's an experience that truly redefines dining in Seoul. Image: Sweeping views of the Han River in Seoul. - Photo: Lewis Hooper Stepping into the Lotte Hotel Seoul, I was immediately struck by its polished, upscale vibe. It definitely set a high bar, and I was eager to see if the Sky Lounge lived up to the hype for a casual dinner with my friends. The elevator ride up felt quick, and the doors opening to that top-floor view was genuinely impressive in itself to be honest. The panoramic view of Seoul at night was just as advertised – absolutely stunning. The city lights stretched out endlessly, a truly mesmerizing backdrop. The lounge itself felt sophisticated but comfortable, not stuffy. There was a nice hum of conversation, soft music, and a general buzz that felt just right for a relaxed evening. Since I have worked hard recently, and I have always been interested in roof top bars and restaurants, when I was presented with the opportunity to come here it was a no brainer for me. Also, since I have been in Korea now for over 5 years, I have never actually been to a rooftop which for me is surprising. Image: Sky Lounge Menu - Photo: Lewis Hooper Every dish felt authentic and thoughtfully prepared; you could tell the chef knew what they were doing. It hit the spot. As the night went on, and the city shimmered below, we dipped into their cocktail and wine list. The sommelier's suggestions were spot-on, making each drink feel like a perfect complement to the meal and the company. The menu was very simple, which is great as this means that the quality of the food on offer is a lot higher, as opposed to having a seven-page menu. The menu was also written in English and Korean, which was useful too. Image: Sky Lounge in the Lotte Hotel - Lewis Hooper Image: Sky Lounge in the Lotte Hotel - Lewis Hooper What made the evening truly great, though, wasn't just the incredible view or the delicious food, but how smoothly everything ran. The staff were attentive without hovering, always there when we needed something, but otherwise letting us enjoy our conversation. It felt like a genuinely luxurious yet effortless experience. The level of the quality of the food was great, and each dish really elevated my mouth with the flavors that were presented to me, of course the soup, puree, and fish were incredible. Leaving the Sky Lounge, I wasn't just full and content; I had that feeling of having treated ourselves to a fantastic evening out in Seoul, and a place that I would thoroughly recommend! In reality, it runs like a cruel market, where children are treated as products and “refunded” if they are not considered perfect. Behind it all is Kim Se-hee, a respected hospital director who secretly uses the scheme to push her idea of “superior genes.” The Defects (Credits: ENA) The Survivors’ Fight Among the victims is Kim Ah-hyun, once abandoned through this system. She grows up carrying the scars of her past but also the will to fight back. Leading a group of survivors, she sets out to destroy the people who wronged them. Woo Tae-sik, a former enforcer of the scheme, begins to change sides, while a trained killer named Jung-hyun is tasked with silencing the children who escaped. The Defects (Credits: ENA) Episode 8 — Finale Recap (Major Spoilers) The finale ended the story with raw emotion and high tension. Ah-hyun and the other survivors sneaked into Se-hee’s compound just as parents arrived to “return” their children like unwanted goods. Things quickly spun out of control. The police stormed in. Fights broke out. Trusts were shattered in seconds as people chose between loyalty and survival. In the lab, Ah-hyun finally came face-to-face with Se-hee. She aimed a gun at her, but instead of pulling the trigger, she spoke a few final words and walked away. Left alone, broken, and stripped of her power, Se-hee took her own life. The children were finally rescued. The show closed with a quiet scene, the survivors gathered for a simple meal. They were hurt, but free, and beginning to heal. The Defects Episode 8 Still (Credits: @frap_pey/X) Why the Finale Lands The final episode combines intense action with profound emotion. It answers the main question: who pays the price when lives are treated like experiments? The ending is not neat or clean. Justice comes in a complicated way, and not everyone gets what they deserve. Still, it leaves space for the survivors to heal and rebuild. And it leaves the audience thinking about the lasting scars such cruelty can leave behind. The Defects (Credits: ENA) Cast and Characters Yum Jung-ah as Kim Se-hee – A respected doctor and adoption charity head hiding a chilling secret. Won Jin-a as Kim Ah-hyun – A survivor of the “defect” system, determined to bring it down. Choi Young-joon as Woo Tae-sik – A man torn between his past as an enforcer and his growing conscience. Dex as Jung-hyun – A cold, skilled killer raised to serve the organization. Where to Watch The Defects The Defects aired on K-Plus TV in South Korea and was streamed internationally on Kocowa and Viki with English subtitles in select regions. The series ran for 8 thrilling episodes, now fully released for viewers to binge from start to finish. Final Thoughts — Why You Should Watch The Defects is not an easy watch, but it is a must for viewers who like thrillers with a hard moral core. The show pairs high-stakes suspense with deep emotional breakdowns. Performances especially by Yum Jung-ah and Won Jin-ah- stick with you. If you want a drama that shocks, makes you care, and leaves room to think about justice and family, this one delivers. If you haven’t seen it yet, the full season is available to stream now, and if you have already finished it, Episode 8 gives you plenty to discuss. What moment in Episode 8 hit you the hardest? Ah-hyun’s choice in the lab, Se-hee’s final act, or the survivors’ quiet dinner? Tell us why! #TheDefects #foodforthought

- 6 K-Drama Male Leads Who Are Walking Red Flags (But We’re Still Obsessed)
Lee Min-ho and Park Seo-joon have played K-drama red-flag characters (Images via SBS and tvN). K-dramas are famous for their nice, well-mannered, gentlemanly, and progressive male leads — the ultimate green-flag men. But real K-drama fans know this is a fairly recent trend. Until about a decade ago, leading men were… well, a different breed. They were possessive, controlling, and jealous. They’d grab the heroine by the shoulders, corner her against a wall, yell about how madly in love they were, confess their envy of the sweet second male lead (who adored the heroine unconditionally, but of course, she loved the red-flag lead instead), and seal the moment with a fierce, locked-room kiss. Yes, Kim Tan from The Heirs , we’re looking right at you. These are the red-flag men your friends and family warn you about — the ones you know you shouldn’t root for, but somehow can’t resist. Because, let’s be honest… red has always been our favorite color. Here are 6 fictional K-drama red-flag men we are absolutely obsessed with. 1. Lee Myung-gi (Im Si-wan) — Squid Game Seasons 2 & 3 Im Siwan in a still from Squid Game (Image via Netflix). Lee Myung-gi was easily one of the most skilled contenders for the ultimate ₩45.6 billion prize — and also one of the most conniving and selfish players in the game. After a massive crypto scam leaves him in hot water with his followers, Myung-gi enters the deadly competition, only to run into Jun-hee, his former girlfriend… who also happens to be pregnant with his child. At first, it seems like he wants to protect Jun-hee and their unborn baby. But as the game unfolds, his true colors emerge — he’s dangerously self-centered, calculating, and manipulative enough to consider sacrificing even his own child for the money. We may despise Myung-gi’s actions, but Im Si-wan’s brilliant performance (and electric chemistry with Jo Yu-ri ) almost makes us root for him. Honestly, we wouldn’t mind seeing the two in a full-fledged romance K-drama. 2. Baek Sa-eon ( Yoo Yeon-seok ) — When the Phone Rings Yoo Yeon-seok in a still from When The Phone Rings (Image via MBC). Baek Sa-eon is the kind of man you can’t help but fantasize about — handsome, intelligent, intense, brooding… and emotionally unavailable. Married to Hong Hee-joo ( Chae Soo-bin ), a mute sign language interpreter, his world shatters when she’s kidnapped after work by a psychopath with a personal vendetta against him. As the mystery unravels, so does their complicated history. Baek Sa-eon has secretly loved Hee-joo since childhood and even married her to protect her from her abusive mother, who planned to sell her off to a wealthy heir. But instead of showing his love, he chooses to be cold and distant, masking his feelings under a wall of rudeness to “protect” them both. Our take? If Baek Sa-eon and Hong Hee-joo had just opened their hearts (and maybe had a few deep sign-language conversations), they could have saved themselves years of angst. Still, Yoo Yeon-seok’s smoldering performance makes this emotionally stunted red-flag man utterly irresistible. 3. Park Jae-eon ( Song Kang ) — Nevertheless Song Kang in a still from Nevertheless (Image via JTBC). Park Jae-eon is the type of guy your instincts tell you to run from — the one who lies through his teeth on dating apps, then shows up in person looking impossibly handsome and oozing irresistible charm. You know he’s trouble, but somehow you’re already in too deep before you even realize it. In Nevertheless , Jae-eon is a textbook Casanova — he loves to flirt, hates to commit, and treats romance like a game. Opposite him is a woman who’s happy to date but doesn’t believe in love or relationships. On paper, this pairing is a giant flashing red flag, but on screen? When it’s Song Kang and Han So-hee turning the tension into sizzling chemistry… well, who’s complaining? 4. Lee Young-joon ( Park Seo-joon ) — What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim Park Seo-joon in a still from What's Wrong With Secretary Kim (Image via tvN). Lee Young-joon is the ultimate chic, handsome, suit-clad, ego-driven chaebol vice-chairman of Yumyung Group. Women everywhere — from the office to glittering parties — swoon over his looks and charisma. But only his long-suffering secretary, Kim Mi-so ( Park Min-young ), knows how exhausting he really is. He treats her more like a servant than a colleague, barking orders and expecting perfection. So when Mi-so suddenly announces she’s quitting, Young-joon doesn’t see it as a career move — he takes it as a personal rejection. Naturally, this is K-drama land, so we later learn they were childhood sweethearts, and he’s secretly adored her all along. So… where is our K-drama CEO boyfriend already? 5. Yoo-jung ( Park Hae-jin ) — Cheese in the Trap The official poster for Cheese in the Trap (Image via tvN). Cheese in the Trap is one of the most frustrating K-dramas to sit through — and that’s largely thanks to Yoo-jung, a wealthy heir ( Park Hae-jin ) whose romance with scholarship student Hong Seol ( Kim Go-eun ) is anything but a Cinderella story. On the surface, Yoo-jung is polite, charming, and seemingly perfect. But dig deeper and you find someone manipulative, calculating, and downright unsettling. Circumstances pull Hong Seol into his orbit, and things only get messier when his former best friends, Baek In-ho ( Seo Kang-joon ) and Baek In-ha ( Lee Sung-kyung ), crash into the picture. Yoo-jung is the kind of man you spot from across the street and instantly make a U-turn to avoid — pretending you never saw him in the first place. Statutory warning: stay away. 6. Kim Tan (Lee Min-ho) — The Heirs Lee Min-ho in a still poster from The Heirs (Image via SBS). No list of red-flag K-drama men would be complete without at least one Lee Min-ho role — and we say that as a compliment. The Hallyu superstar has practically been the torch bearer for the genre’s possessive, problematic male leads, and his turn as Kim Tan in the star-studded The Heirs is peak red flag. Kim Tan is a wealthy young heir (shocking, we know) exiled to the U.S. by his domineering father and older stepbrother. There, he meets Cha Eun-sang ( Park Shin-hye ), a damsel in distress — unaware she’s the daughter of his family’s housekeeper. Their romance faces the usual K-drama hurdles of class differences and meddling suitors, but the real obstacle? Kim Tan himself. Far from a Prince Charming, he’s possessive, jealous, and controlling — memorably pinning Eun-sang in a storeroom for a kiss. Lee Min-ho has since expressed regret over the way that scene was filmed and even apologized to Park Shin-hye, but it’s heartening to know the two maintained a warm friendship off-screen. On-screen though? Kim Tan will forever remain one of the genre’s most iconic walking, talking red flags. Which of these red-flag K-drama fictional characters is your favorite? Let us know in the comments below! #TheHeirs #LeeMinHo #CheeseInTheTrap #ParkHaeJin #WhatsWrongWithSecretaryKim #ParkSeoJoon #WhenThePhoneRings #YooYeonSeok #SongKang #Nevertheless #ImSiwan #SquidGame
