May 2026 is becoming one of the biggest months for K-pop girl groups! We highlight why this month has become a battleground for some of K-pop's biggest comebacks and how TikTok and AI visuals are shaping the "comeback war"!

aespa— The Futuristic Powerhouse
With a massive facelift of a world tour this summer in SYNK: COMPLæXITY, K-pop futuristic powerhouse aespa is back with their second full-length album, LEMONADE! The concept and design are "out of this world," and we can't wait to see what genres these girls will be dominating next! LEMONADE is scheduled to drop on May 29, 2026, at 1 PM KST. Make sure to check out our full breakdown of their comeback!
LE SSERAFIM— Confidence and Performance Domination

The queens of fashion and stage presence are back with a second full-length album, PUREFLOW pt.1, on May 22, 2026, at 1 PM KST. The new concept, 'YUSU LILY', uses water to convey enduring vitality in stillness, while the first concept, 'BIRCH SCAR', expresses human fears and emptiness. LE SSERAFIM will also embark on a new world tour entitled 2026 LE SSERAFIM TOUR 'PUREFLOW', beginning with a concert in Incheon on July 11, with a total of 32 performances in 23 cities.

ITZY— The Return to Their Signature Style
Making their full-group comeback today, ITZY dropped their 12th EP, Motto, with eight tracks. This comeback marks almost six months since their November 15, 2025, mini-album, Tunnel Vision. Check out their teaser and comeback content!
NMIXX— Vocals and Viral Trends
NMIXX released their fifth mini album, Heavy Serenade, on May 11, 2026. The dreamy, romantic concept features the pre-released song, "Cresendo", which has over 3.5 million views!
Heavy Serenade showcases each member's vocals, with the lead single "Heavy Serenade" surpassing 10 million views in the first two days!
Fans are praising the group's return to a more traditional "pop song format," sarcastically saying, "a three-minute title song? with a bridge? and outro? in this economy? oh nmixx you are generous queens!" Others are saying that the song "doesn't sound like it was made for TikTok" and "is a gem these days". Quite funny since it might not be "TikTok worthy", but it's definitely "YouTube worthy"!
BABYMONSTER— The New Generation Challenger
Backed with YG-charisma and global marketing, BABYMONSTER released their monster 3rd mini album, CHOOM, on May 4, 2026. With their hit single "CHOOM" reaching a staggering 80 million views in just 9 days, the group is poised to take on the world with a second world tour, 춤 (CHOOM), beginning June 26, 2026, in Seoul. Tickets and tour dates can be found here.
CHOOM's rebellious, "mugshot" concept is true to BABYMONSTER's identity and proves that its new "high level" choreography is a viral hit!
Why Fans Are Calling It A "Comeback War"
While not only competing with other girl groups, but with the biggest K-pop comeback in years in BTS, these big-name groups are competing for album sales, Spotify and Billboard charts, TikTok dances, as well as fan voting and streaming cultures going viral. Also, with nostalgic album releases that include posters, vinyls, trading cards, t-shirts, and more, it'll be difficult to compete for fans' spending money.
Final Thoughts
Each of these girl groups display their own character and concepts very well, and we know that each of them will continue to be successful in its own way. We want to know which K-pop girl group you're supporting this month! Let us know in the comments!
