Smashing box office records this past Lunar New Year holiday, Park Ji-hoon's historical film, The King's Warden, exceeded expectations by drawing over 1.4 million moviegoers this past weekend and bringing the total to over 5.8 million viewers since its premiere on February 4, 2026.
According to KOBIS (Korean Film Council tracking service), the film grossed $6.4 million. It also had the largest daily attendance since March 2020 on February 16, drawing 537,190 viewers.
What is The King's Warden about?
Set in 1457 during the Joseon Dynasty, King Danjong (Park Ji-hoon), is stripped of his title and exiled to a remote village in Yeongwol by his uncle, the Grand Prince Suyang (King Sejo). King Danjong forms an unlikely bond with the village chief, Eom Heung-do (Yoo Hae-jin), who is expecting a wealthy aristocrat to revive the village economy.
