What is the Met Gala?

The world famous Met Gala is an annual event which focuses on the fundraising gala with celebrity attendees. Each year interprets a new theme, which is shown through the guests attire, making it a highly prestigious fashion event for global celebrities, which helps draw attention to the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. This is certainly an event not to be missed!



So what was this year's theme?


This year's theme went beyond stunning gowns in a bid to celebrate a more powerful and profound influence: Superfine Tailoring Black Style! This striking yet vibrant homage to the artistry and identity of black fashion and detailed tailoring really was something else. The dress code, a personal invitation of Tailored For You, which was a ploy to encourage guests to step into this spirit while attending the prestigious awards.



What was the inspiration for this theme?


The inspiration? Well, none other than the insightful 2009 masterpiece which some of you may have heard of , Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity by the brilliant author and professor Monica L. Miller, promising a night where style told a story of heritage and self-expression.

LISA this year dared to wear a sheer lace top and Louis Vuitton tights, without pants, but c'mon, how sexy does she look!


S.COUPS, was sported showcasing the classic layered look, which was inspired by the Hanbok, a traditional Korean dress, with a grey suit topped with a black overcoat, which we personally love.


Jennie, also stole the show with her vintage style 1920s Channel tuxedo gown and inside jump suit and a hat with a classic trim.

So why is the Met Gala important for K-pop stars?


This is a question that many K-pop fans have been asking, and with good reason. The Met Gala offers K-pop stars a global platform and, therefore, global visibility and fashion credibility crucial for these stars, as we saw last year when Stray Kids attended the event.


It also provides invaluable networking opportunities with designers and brands, potentially leading to lucrative partnerships and ambassadorships, as evidenced by recent attendees like BLACKPINK members and SEVENTEEN's S.Coups representing luxury houses at the 2025 event.
