- Netflix's influencer survival show "The Influencer" is Korea's hot topic! But is too much?
Netflix unveiled its first influencer survival show The Influencer , following the success of similar shows such as Physical 100 . In today's world of social media stars, is it too much? We give our opinion on this new hot reality series! As I am sure you already know, the influencer market in Korea has grown to an unimaginable scale over the past couple of years, and thanks to the help of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has accelerated influencers to new heights. When I heard about the new Netflix show, I was really excited. Why? Because I think it will be a great opportunity for many people to experience new opportunities, but on top of that showcase their skills and talents and I love reality TV, of course the drama that comes with it. Producer Lee Jae Seok, the mastermind behind the show, shares his vision: “I thought it would be interesting to gather influencers, divided by algorithms, in one place. You’ll see the top influencers in Korea and experience unique entertainment through the large scale and visuals that only Netflix can deliver, along with never-before-seen social survival missions.” Also, according to the official Netflix website: Fans are treated to a teaser trailer featuring powerful influencers like TikToker Xiajiu, who boasts 27.5 million followers, Jang Geun Seok, Risabae, Pani Bottle, Jin Yong Jin, Shim Euddeum and Daedo Library. Their reactions give a taste of the intense and shocking challenges that await. So what is the show about? The Influencer features 77 South Korean influencers across platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and other social media platforms, each of them with their own special content. Through taking part and competing against each other in various challenges, the contestants will compete for the title of "Best Influencer" and the biggest portion of their KRW 300 million prize pot. I would love to take part in this show! Let's check out the trailer! Having watched the trailer, the style and look of the rooms do feel very similar to Squid Game , however, I feel that the main difference here is that the contestants are real-life people, instead of actors or sports celebrities so they have more at stake. I cannot wait for the drama to unfold over the series, and I really hope that the contestants do well. Without a doubt, I will be tuning in to watch this new reality series. The Influencer streams on August 6, only on Netflix. Let us know your thoughts on this captivating new show in the comments below. #TheInfluencer #Netflix #realityshow #survivalshow #SquidGame #Physical100
- This former Manchester United player is under investigation for riding a scooter in Seoul without a license. What happened??
A former Manchester United player is being investigated for riding an electric scooter in Seoul without a license. Who is he and what happened? We have all the details! With recent global news coverage of BTS member SUGA , being arrested for a DUI (Driving under the influence) for riding an electric scooter around Yongsan Station in Seoul, another high profile celebrity has also been charged with the same offense, however this time it is a UK football player. Former Manchester United player and current K League 1 FC Seoul star Jesse Lingard is under police investigation for allegedly riding an electric scooter without a license, according to YTN on September 17, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul has begun a pre-investigation into Lingard's case. The charges stem from an incident at 10:20 PM on September 16 in Apgujeong-dong, Seoul, where Lingard allegedly operated an electric scooter without a license. A year ago, Lingard was fined approximately 100 million KRW (~75,457 USD) in the UK for drunk driving and speeding. At the time, he was also handed an 18-month driving suspension, as reported by local media, so my question is will he ever learn his lesson if he has not already?! It appears not, as since he has had a suspension which is still ongoing in the UK since Korea and the UK have a mutual recognition agreement for driving licenses, his suspension means that he cannot legally drive in Korea. Perhaps he did not know this, or was he being ignorant? It does, however, appear that since the SUGA incident, police have been cracking down harder on checking for driving licenses. However, I also feel that scooter companies should enhance their checks when they allow scooters to be rented out through more verifications on the app or booking system. Seoul authorities have also confirmed that the football player was not wearing safety gear while operating the scooter, which is most likely why he was stopped and checked in the first place, however, in the UK, it is not mandatory to wear such safety gear, though it is strongly recommended. Let us know your thoughts on this topic in the comments below. #JesseLingard #electricscooter #SouthKoreanews #footballnews

Disney Pixar Mashup (Credits: Disney) Disney's new animated film, Elio , sends a strong message of belonging. Many young and older Koreans battle with loneliness, which is mostly driven though the intense social pressures, and strong traditional community ties. Also feeding into this is a very competitive nature when it comes to work and education, and therefore the rise in single person households, lack of family units and a growing sense of detachment. This film will focus in on some of the issues that many Koreans face, in order to bring awareness to them. Storytelling Excellence & Stunning visuals Disney Pixar , is well known for it's cutting edge animations, stunning visuals and artistry, and this has not gone unnoticed by the Korean audience who appreciate the high quality production. The way that Disney is able to tell stories and put across key messages remain fresh and engaging and also relevant. Disney's storytelling also evolves to stay relevant, as seen with Frozen series shifting focus to sisterly bonds, ensuring narratives remain fresh and engaging. Strategic Market Focus for the Korean market In recent years Disney has put real focus on ramping up for their Korean market, especially through Disney+ as it includes Korean original content. The Dojeon team have written serval articles which have homed in on hit Disney+ dramas. This clever movie by Disney does not stop there, as they also have worked closely with Korean creators as seen in the hit series Moving , demonstrate Disney's commitment to building strong, localized ties within the industry. Educational value In the past, many Koreans watched Disney films in order to learn English. Disney movies were once seen as a valuable tool for learning, and this has continued through to today. Disney has realized this, and as a result have shifted some of their focus onto Disney learning tools, through work shops to toys. With many classic Disney animations such as Lion King , bringing a strong nostalgic sense to many generations of Koreans this has led to a long lasting affection for the brand. This intergenerational connection ensures Disney's magic continues to be passed down through families. So what is the dealio with Elio , the new Disney Pixar Movie? While sequels like Zootopia 2 and Toy Story 5 near the horizon, the spotlight for now is firmly on Elio , which promises to be a sci-fi comedy! This extra-terrestrial adventure hopes to bring some of Pixar's space magic to global audiences, including those in Korea. Image: Screenshot from the animated sci-fi movie Elio. Photo credit: Disney A Journey from Loneliness to Leading the Galaxy In a bustling world where many Koreans, despite their vibrant culture, often grapple with silent feelings of isolation and loneliness. Elio , arrives with a profoundly powerful message of connection and belonging. The Dojeon team believes Elio is poised to become the next must-see animated hit for Korean audiences, especially given its central theme that mirrors the everyday experiences of so many here. This isn't merely another animated adventure; it's a deeply resonant story for anyone who has ever felt like an outsider, searching for their unique place in the vast universe, a feeling we're sure many Koreans can identify with. Synopsis The main plot follows Elio Solis, an eleven-year-old boy, who, much like many navigating modern Korean society, is desperate to understand his true self and find a genuine connection. Though he begins as an underdog, Elio accidentally stumbles into the most exciting adventure imaginable, proving that even the most unassuming among us can find extraordinary purpose. Elio offers a timely and heartfelt exploration of what it means to belong, both within oneself and in the wider cosmos. Later, Elio is suddenly tasked with representing our entire planet! - [VOTED] Korean fried chicken tops tourists' number 1 Korean food!
Tourists have VOTED , and Korean fried chicken (KFC) tops tourists number 1 Korean food over the much loved Korean BBQ ! Let's see why it took over the number one spot and how it has gained global popularity! If you would have told me before I moved to Korea, a little over four years ago, that chicken and beer was popular in Korea, I would have not believed you. As in my eyes this style of food is more popular in Western countries, however, I could not have been more wrong, and now Korean chicken and beer is one of my favorite guilty pleasure foods. If you remember I also attended the famous Chimek (Chicken and beer) festival in Daegu earlier this year where chicken and beer lovers were able to enjoy a variety of fusion flavors and entertainment for the long weekend. But my question is: "Why is Korean fried chicken so popular, especially with tourists?" Let's compare Korean fried chicken to the fried chicken in the US! Korean fried chicken is lighter than American fried chicken, but in no way does it get the low points on Weight Watchers. Koreans differentiate their fried chicken from the American variety, familiar through American chains like KFC or Popeye’s, mostly by American chicken’s thicker, crispier coating. Korean fried chicken tends to be more papery and less knobby and crumbly, which an enhance the flavor and allows you to enjoy a more moist chicken piece. The Korean mania for chi-maek has spread with the Asian mania for Korean TV. China in particular has gone completely ape for a Korean soap opera called My Love from the Star , about a handsome alien who falls in love with a beautiful Korean woman, whose favorite food is chi-maek. The show has been downloaded over two billion times in China alone! Let's take a look at a clip from this drama! Of course, with K-dramas becoming more popular in Western countries there is no doubt that this has helped tourists indulge in this local cuisine when they visit Korea. I also think that it is a "safe" option as most tourists would have ate fried chicken before, so it's more of a home comfort food with a Korean twist. Accessibility is also another reason why Korean fried chicken is popular with tourists, as it can be found pretty much anywhere, of course there are big chains such as BHC and Kyochon for example however local street venders also sell this incredible food at a reasonable price for a good amount, and with most of the venders offering a family recipe, therefore I believe that these are the reasons why Korean Fried chicken has been voted the most popular food among tourists. What do you think? Let us know what your favorite Korean food is in the comments below! #Koreanfriedchicken #friedchicken #southkorea
