Gripping, emotional, and intriguing. The new KBS drama Curtain Call has captured our attention as one of the best dramas this fall! Driven by a star-studded cast including Kang Ha Neul ( Insider 2022), Ha Ji Won ( Chocolate 2020), and Ji Seung Hyun ( Why Her? 2022), Curtain Call tells the story of an old defected North Korean woman, Ja Geum Soon ( Ko Du Shim ) who is separated from her husband and child. Dojeon Media sends out our love to those affected. We wanted to share one of our stories related to the crush. Here is a chat with Jonathan Lui our CEO/Founder: Ann : Jon, why is Itaewon so popular? Jon : Itaewon is a hot spot because when Korea thinks "Halloween ", they automatically think "we have to go to Itaewon. " It's just where the country goes to celebrate Halloween. It is the most concentrated area of foreigners in the country. Ann : When were you in Itaewon? Jon : From 4:30 - 8pm that Saturday Ann : I am so grateful that you were not there later than 8pm! What was the vibe like? Jon : The atmosphere was really quiet when I arrived at the restaurant we were going to have dinner. It started to get busy around 7pm when we went to a cafe. There were more and more people outside on the street with costumes and enjoying themselves. When we stepped out of the cafe it was about 7:30 and that's when I took the video. People started crowding the street, but for us that live here, it's pretty normal. Ann : Was it busy or calm when you were there? Jon : For the most part, it was pretty calm, there wasn't any pushing or shoving since there were many families with small children trick-or-treating. People were just enjoying the festivities (they had face painting and other fun Halloween games). Ann : How has this affected you? Jon : I felt this tragedy could have been avoided and unnecessary. But I also understand the need to go out and "stretch our COVID legs" since it's been 3 years since our last Halloween. I've already known this but "avoid crowds if possible", and this event just confirmed it. I feel bad for the parents of the students who were excited to go out and have a good time. They were given pocket money and encouraged to have fun. How do you think the parents felt? That kind of thing. Also, the foreigners who were just visiting. South Korea has officially announced a mourning period for the victims and families due to the tragedy in Itaewon that happened on Saturday, October 29 around 22:00 KST. President Yoon Suk Yeol announced in a press conference on Sunday that the Seoul crowd crush resulted in over 150 casualties and at least 82 people injured. The period of national mourning will go from Sunday, October 30 until Saturday, November 5. Numerous K-pop and fashion events scheduled to happen this week were either canceled or delayed in respect for those who lost their lives. One of the biggest K-pop festivals, the 2022 Busan One Asia Festival, scheduled for October 30 was also canceled. Acts like Brave Girls, MAMAMOO , and LE SSERAFIM were scheduled to perform. Fashion house, Gucci, was originally scheduled to have their “Cosmognie” collection at Gyeongbokgung Palace on November 1, but announced that the show is now canceled. They took to social media to make the announcement stating: " We send our deepest condolences to the families and friends of all those who have been affected by the tragedy in Itaewon, Seoul, South Korea." K-pop entertainment company SM Entertainment, deleted all announcements for their “SMTOWN WONDERLAND 2022” Halloween party that was planned for Oct. 30 and would have featured a live stream and red carpet event to feature its artists in costume. The management company is home to powerhouse acts such as Super Junior , Girls' Generation , NCT , and Aespa . Multiple tv appearances, live-streams, fan events, video premieres have all been canceled throughout the Korean entertainment industry for at least the up-coming week. BTS ' eldest member Jin has just dropped a new single 'The Astronaut' yesterday (October 28th) and fans are going crazy! It's not just about the outstanding visuals and vocals this time though, but also about the underlying story of the MV. Theories are already running around, but let's recap for a moment. The MV starts with Jin sitting next to a broken spaceship , which fans are speculating he used to come to Earth. As the song starts, the scene changes and we see him in a nice house (a possible fast–forward) where he's peacefully doing crosswords on his bed when suddenly a beam of light appears outside the window. Seok Jin starts running towards the light, which turns out to be the same spaceship seen before, now fixed and ready to depart for space. Fans' main theory is that Jin came from space and landed on Earth, where he was stuck as his spaceship was broken. Here he learns to live like a human being and eventually finds a home. To support this theory we see many symbols and signs, the predominant one being the little girl , who appears repeatedly and seems to be close to the singer. In fact, fans are associating her with ARMY – which is what BTS' fandom is called – saying she's a symbol of their special bond. Other signs to support this theory are the many space-related items in Jin's room in the MV, as well as the helmet he gives to the little girl right before departing for space as if he was giving her something to remember him by. It should be noted that that was the same helmet that was sitting next to him in the very first scene when he had just landed on Earth. By the end of the MV, the BTS member has the chance to get on the spaceship and go back home to space, but he seems to change his mind last minute and starts running back. Once again, fans interpreted this moment as his realization that he has found his home on Earth and he belongs here . Basically saying BTS' singer Seok Jin has found happiness and home in an environment where he didn't feel like he belonged at first (maybe the entertainment industry? maybe the boyband?), mostly thanks to ARMY . How sweet is that? Other theories see Jin as a human wanting to depart for space and sending the message that, no matter how far he goes, he will always come back home to Earth (aka ARMY and BTS' members). Which we like just as much! Especially considering it was confirmed the eldest member of BTS is about to depart for military service .
