What Is The East Palace About?

The East Palace follows Gu-cheon (Nam Joo-hyuk), a spirit slayer who possesses the rare ability to cross between the world of the living and the Realm of Gwi, where restless spirits reside. When strange supernatural incidents begin threatening the royal family, the king summons him to investigate the mysterious curse hidden within the East Palace.

Working alongside him is Saeng-gang (Roh Yoon-seo), a court lady born with the ability to hear the voices of spirits. Although she considers her gift a lifelong burden, it soon becomes the key to uncovering the truth.

Together, they follow a trail of ghostly encounters, forgotten histories, and royal secrets that have remained hidden for decades, while the King (Cho Seung-woo) quietly watches over a mystery that could destroy the palace forever.

Episode Schedule

The East Palace consists of 8 episodes. Netflix is expected to release all eight episodes on July 17, allowing viewers to binge-watch the entire supernatural mystery from start to finish instead of waiting for weekly episodes.

Why Fans Are Excited

One of the biggest reasons behind the growing excitement is Nam Joo-hyuk's return to a major fantasy series following his military service. The trailer showcases him in a completely different role as a sword-wielding spirit slayer navigating both the real world and the Realm of Gwi.

The drama also reunites director Choi Jung-kyu with acclaimed actor Cho Seung-woo, while writers Kwon So-ra and Seo Jae-won, known for supernatural dramas such as Bulgasal: Immortal Souls and The Guest, bring another original fantasy world to life. Combined with impressive visual effects, eerie palace settings, and an intriguing mystery, The East Palace has quickly become one of July's most anticipated Netflix releases.

If you're a fan of historical fantasy, ghost stories, or mystery K-dramas, The East Palace is one series to keep on your July watchlist.
