Since the weather is cooling down, September is the perfect time to head to Gyeongbokgung Palace for a spectacular night tour. As the tourist season is also in full swing, it's the perfect time for making your own K-drama memories as soon as you step through the historic gates and immerse yourself in Korea's royal dynastic history!

Dojeon team member Lewis experienced firsthand how great the evening pass is for Gyeongbokgung Palace. Visitors here can explore the full area of the grounds while enjoying illuminated buildings and temples, including the majestic Geunjeongjeon Throne Hall and the breathtaking Gyeonghoeru Pavilion floating on water, which was his favorite stop.
During the illuminated season, there are also special events and performances, including live traditional musical performances in the ancient courtyards, which make it even more special. Visitors can also upgrade their tickets to a slightly more specialised premium Starlight Tour, where live traditional acoustic numbers and dramatic historical storytelling unfold against the illuminated backdrop of the royal kitchens and royal library.
Opening Hours & Price
Visiting for the special nighttime illuminations is really affordable. General admission tickets are only 3,000 KRW (USD 2.17) for adults; however, if you dress up in Korean traditional clothes (Hanbok), then you can enter and enjoy the events free of charge. Even at 3,000 KRW, it is half the price of a beer, so there is no excuse not to visit this amazing and historical destination.
This year's autumn night viewing is from September 2nd through October 2nd, every Wednesday to Sunday between 7 pm and 9:30 pm, with the last admission at 8:30 pm.
Mondays and Tuesdays, however, are both closed days for the palace.
