The Adamas cast Ji Sung, Seo Ji Hye ( Crash Landing On You 2019 - 2020), and Lee Soo Kyung ( Law School 2021) held an online press conference on July 26 to discuss the drama and their characters. Director Park Seung Woo explained why Adamas is more than just one genre: “We have been saying it’s an investigation drama, but can we describe it in one word? I thought a lot about this at the start. It’s hard to explain a drama with one expression. If I say it’s a mystery thriller, there’s also a side of powerful action. If I consider it action, there are also noir aspects. It feels like a mix of various genres. It’s hard to describe this aspect. I wonder if it isn’t even a genre drama.” Ji Sung plays duo roles as identical twin brothers Ha Woo Shin, an author, and Song Soo Hyun, a special forces prosecutor working at the Central District Prosecutor's office. Ji Sung explains his approach to his roles in Adamas, “The two people have the same start. As they’re similar, there were a lot of difficult aspects as I tried to emphasize the portrayal of their subtle differences.” Seo Ji Hye plays the role of Eun Hye Soo, the daughter-in-law of Haesong Group's CEO. She revealed the challenges in her new role. “I wondered how to portray the complicated emotions of whether [Eun Hye Soo] will aid Woo Shin and what kind of character she will be. Since the drama’s script was so solid, I just followed the flow of emotions and it went well. That’s why I tried to be secretive in real life too.” Lee Soo Kyung plays Kim Seo Hee, a special affairs reporter for TNC. She explains the challenges of preparing for the role. “I felt that the career of a reporter was charming. There are also secrets that Seo Hee has. I was drawn to her because she’s a character with a twist. Seo Hee is the type to tenaciously bite and stretch something once she’s set on a goal. She has good endurance. My endurance is not great. That’s our greatest difference.” Finally, veteran actor, Heo Sung Tae, commented on his character, Choi Tae Sung, a general security manager for Haesongwon, the residence of Haesong Group's chairman, “In real life, I have no charisma. When I’m acting, I have to play powerful roles so there are some aspects that make me cringe. Out of all the roles I’ve done, the general security manager is my most sophisticated role. In a bar hearing, accused of questionable methods of obtaining evidence from past cases, Oh Soo Jae is put on trial by her peers to defend herself from her accusers who desperately want to debar her and keep her quiet. In an all-out onslaught of evidence given to her by the right-hand-man of the chairman of TK Law Firm, Choi Tae Kuk, Oh Soo Jae confidently and strategically uncovers the truth regarding the case she lost 10 years ago, landing her current lover, Gong Chan ( Hwang In Yeop ) who was innocent, in jail. The truth is also revealed about Choi Tae Kuk's involvement in the death of a young woman, which we saw in the first episode. In the aftermath of the questioning, Oh Soo Jae is acquitted of her accusations and is seen back at Seojung University law school as an adjunct professor again. She has started her own law firm and is currently dating Gong Chan. This was a really well-done drama in a summer full of amazing K-dramas ! We highly recommend this drama to anyone who likes legal melodramas that have a strong female lead! Although we do admit the age gap and relationship between the two leads sometimes lead to awkward emotions battling within us, as fans, we just want to appreciate what the director's purpose is. The revenge melodrama was appointed number 1 on our list of Top 5 K-dramas For This Summer ! A story of a vengeful daughter, Lee La El ( Seo Yea Ji Lawless Lawyer 2018), whose father dies unexpectedly due to corporate corruption and greed. She prepares for 13 years to take her revenge on the chaebol family who tore her family apart. With the help of a young National Assemblyman, she vows to take revenge on the richest family in South Korea. The ending was not surprising, since we all know La El's need to avenge her family. But how she set up the internal time bomb within the evil of the country's biggest conglomerate LY Group and their political family, was amazing! The way she plotted their evil deeds against each other, making them each feel helpless and vengeful towards each other was just the cherry on the top! La El's master plan worked to perfection except for one very vital detail, she fell in love with the person she wanted to kill! This definitely threw a wrench into the plot and made us side with her decision and make the melodrama into a masterpiece! Never once during this drama did we question our emotions as we were taken into the painful past La El had to face while dealing with what is going on in front of her face and dealing with the vengeful emotions each passing moment with a very convincing Han So Ra ( Yoo Sun Move To Heaven 2021). The ending brought us to a climactic, yet satisfying finish, as we let out a sigh of relief during a tragic accident caused by the leading man, Kang Yoon Gyeom ( Park Byung Eun Alchemy Of Souls 2022). La El's revenge is complete; her lover sacrifices himself, Han So Ra loses her mind after surviving the car crash, and the evil politician Han Pan Ro dies in a cell he built under their home. Oh, the irony! We definitely recommend bumping this drama to the top of your "To watch" list! The acting was superb and the storyline was believable. Let us know how you felt about the ending!
